Mike Evans Gets A New Mentor
January 30th, 2017Bucs fans know how America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, made the Pro Bowl last year and left deeply inspired to make radical upgrades to his body after observing Russell Wilson and Julio Jones, in addition to learning from the greats.
Naturally, a trained reporter like Joe sought to learn whether Mike Evans had a similar experience this year.
Evans sure did — and it should make Bucs fans salivate on this Monday morning.
Before last night’s Pro Bowl game in Orlando, Evans talked to Joe about how much guidance he got last week from Richard Sherman and Patrick Peterson, particularly Peterson, the six-time Pro Bowler.
“Talking to Drew Brees, Richard Sherman and all those guys [at Pro Bowl practices], the vets, it’s been crazy,” Evans said. “Patrick Peterson giving me tips on cornerbacks and how they play; it’s crazy. It’s very insightful stuff and I think it’ll be very helpful.”
Joe asked Evans he thought he was being set up, getting played by the great ballhawks of the game.
“I don’t know. We’ll see. I don’t think so. But I thought of that. We’ll see,” Evans said.
Peterson laughed off the notion that he wasn’t real with Evans. His guidance, he said, was born from respect and a new bond.
“It was definitely real tips,” Peterson said of the knowledge he shared with Evans. “Mike has the ability to be something very special in this league, coming off a great year last year. Definitely looking forward to seeing him to continue to grow in the NFL as a young superstar. I can’t tell you what tips I gave him, but I did give him a little insight on how to get open and get away with a couple of penalties against the DBs.”
Is that something you usually do for a receiver or you just took a liking to him? Joe asked.
“I don’t know, not really, there’s just something about Mike. He seemed like a very cool guy. We could relate to one another. Very chill, he reminded me a lot of myself, definitely wanted to give out a helping hand.”
Way cool stuff right there. And people say the Pro Bowl is a waste of time.
Not for young, hungry Bucs.

Awesome post and all…but how about the fact Evans had 0 targets!
I was stoked when brees went in and was lined up with Evans, Zeke, most of that cowboys o line and Olsen. Yet, he went to olsen and Odell nearly the entire game.
Besides McCoy’s sack (early in the game, surprise surprise), there was nothing else.

Pro Bowl SUCKS! Even when I tune in and watch the whole game, jeez I mean I even recorded it. It’s sad when the most exciting part is when I see the current lineup post of who is actually on the field drop down on the screen. Oh yeah awesome EVANS IS IN THE GAME. Oh waow I think I saw him run half a route up at the top of the screen! F$&/; Drew Brees and watching the triplets 2.0 made me wanna throw up my burger. Giant Block head Elliot.

One could even say that these Bucs are…
Yungry.

Just wish Evans would have got one target. I don’t think they were double teaming him. Noticed Brees forced it to Graham several times and Dak’s first read was Dez, and they were all trying to hit Odell. One target would have been nice. Even Gruden commented that he couldn’t wait to see Mike in action.

Evans did not get targeted because it was the Dallas Cowboys versus the AFC.

Not surprising. After the Seahawks game the camera found Evans and Sherman laughing together with Sherm showing Evans a ton of respect and admiration. Thought that was a cool moment after that game. It’s great to see he’s earned respect of the star corners around the league

Way cool stuff indeed Joe.
It’s BS that Evans got so disrespected in the Pro Bowl game with little playing time and zero targets.
I’m already sick of the Dak and Zeke show…. Both are overrated if you ask me. Not hard for either to look good behind that Oline.

Evans said in an interview last night that he was banged up and only wanted a few plays to get the experience of the pro bowl. Trust me, I was HEATED last night with the lack of playing time

“Sick of the Dak and Zeke show”.
Hence why, if we want to beat those punks, we need to sign Dontari Poe to take away their run game a bit and prevent their o line from mowing us down. Why do you think the Giants signed Damon Harris last spring? To counter that o line! Sure enough 2 of the ‘Boys 3 losses came to the Gmen, and Dak and Zeke played like the rookies they were w/o that o line.

too bad the great new bucs jameis, kwon, mike evans, marpet have to look outside the team for mentors and leaders to emulate… Too bad they did not have a veteran super start to look up to on bucs…. Oh wait they do…. The leader of the losing culture. Fortunately the team is in good hands going forward and this should be the last group of guys who have to go outside the organization for mentors. the future is bright… Licht still has some house cleaning to do to change the losing culture…

Some people just want to build any kind of divisive wall! Dumb Ass!!!
January 30th, 2017 at 4:51 pm
@Joe you should ask Mikey whether or not he feels kinda dissed about barely being used in the Pro-Bowl.
January 30th, 2017 at 6:03 pm
Awsome. Now get Peterson in Tampa!! 🙂
