Talib talks QBs with Joe

What could be more fun than Aqib Talib ranking NFC South quarterbacks after a Pro Bowl practice?

Hell, nearly everything involving Talib is fun. The man is a character when he’s not slugging teammates and cabbies, hassling grandmothers, shooting himself or diving into other assorted trouble.

Talib’s Broncos faced the NFC South this season, so Joe asked him to rank the QBs on Friday.

Talib struggled to answer.

Talib: That’s tough, man. I played against Drew Brees a bunch in my career but I missed him this year. Ranking is hard, man. It’s hard, man, It’s tough. I can’t do it. There’s a lot of guys neck and neck.

Joe: So who’s at the bottom? Is that where you put Jameis?

Talib: I definitely wouldn’t say that about Jameis, man. Jameis is definitely a professional in this league and he’s going to be great, man. You see the improvement, what he did with his team this year. He had those guys competing, man. That’s in his nature and he’s spreading that. I can’t put him in the back. I wouldn’t put Cam [Newton] in the back. He’s fresh off a Super Bowl run. We know he’s Superman. Drew Brees, we know who he is. Matt Ryan, damn. You know where he’ll be next week. You can’t put none of those guys at the back. You can win with all those guys. As far as ranking those guys, you just have to put them all in the winner column.

Joe: You picked off Jameis twice in Week 4 and had some harsh words about his play. So what’s better about Jameis?

Talib: That’s me, though. I’m different. I’m going to do my homework, and I feel I’m going to be successful against any quarterback, Hall of Famer or not. I got Jameis this year, but I kept watching him. He’s a baller. He got a lot done with Tampa. You know where he’s going.

Yes, the NFC South is loaded at quarterback — historically loaded.

Talib’s not a shy fellow, and it was good to hear his strong respect for Jameis.

Since 2002 The Dirty South has been the only division to have all 4 teams make it to the superbowl!their is no other division that deserves respect more than the Dirty South!and it seems that with the arrival of Ryan,Jameis,Newton and the exception of Brees it will continue to be the most dominant division for years to come!

Yup. The NFC South is one of the leagues toughest divisions!
This division has the most great QBs, for certain!

Glad to see Talib has apparently turned his life around.
He was a disaster when he was hete

  5. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Did you ask him to rank the Cabbies in Boston and Denver versus those in Tampa?

  6. Chris Says:

Was this before or after he shot himself?

  7. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

If two Superbowl appearances in consecutive seasons don’t put the league on notice about this division nothing will. Who up next??? Us that’s who…

I like the way you think NOSBOS!!!

  9. Guzzie Says:

Just another super talented guy the Bucs let get away for nothing

  10. Gt40bear Says:

Did he use the ‘Top Shot’ elimination method to rank them?

  11. Waterboy Says:

I agree with Aquib that’s a difficult question to answer because you have a young up and coming guy in a division with a QB in his 5th or 6th season that just carried his team to the super bowl last year, a future hall of fame QB that’s on the decline and the league MVP who’s on his way to the super bowl next week. I’d take any of those guys.

  12. BROCKTACULAR Says:

I’ll keep Jaboo over the rest of those cats! More upside at this point in time… Only been in the league 2 years and is a very talented QB with a lot more to learn!

  13. Buc1987 Says:

    Go away Drew…

    Just go away.

I thought Talib handled that question very well. Not ranking them, agreeing they are all winners. What great respect he has for a 2nd yr QB in JW. Coming from Talib that says a lot about about a guy that we are all fans of because we are Buc’s fans. From a outside player and a bias statement. That’s strong, Go Buc’s

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Does anyone on JBF ever talk about that kid from FSU Dalvin Cook?

  20. Waterboy Says:

    @Buc1987
I don’t even waste time thinking about Cook because he’ll be long gone by the time the Bucs pick at 19 and I wouldn’t think they’d give up draft picks to trade up for a RB. I like the guy from Texas and hope he’s available in the 3rd rd. I’ve watched some college tape on Mixon and his running style looks similar to what I saw from Charles Sims coming out of college.

  21. Andy Norton Says:

Well (Waterboy) I for one hope we don’t get anyone like Sims in the draft. He is nothing more than a compliment back, not a every down back that we need, sure he is a great catcher and he is a value. What you are saying is he reminds you of Sims and that’s why you want him. That’s why I don’t, we need a bruiser back that can get yards up the middle and around the corner and everywhere in between.
    That’s what I believe anyway’s

  22. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@WaterBoy With all due respect I’ve seen Charles Sims college tape and he and Mixon are nothing alike. If I were to compare him to any Buccaneer running back of past or present, It would have to be Carnell “Cadillac” Williams.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

    Waterboy…that was for NOS. lol

  24. Jameisbucsfan Says:

Bucky Brooks put out a mock draft this week that had dalvin cook going 22 and had us taking a de. If that actually happens Jameis needs to have Jason fired.

  25. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Jameisbucsfan

That’s a little extreme lol. Nothing wrong with us passing on Cook. In a deep RB we can get an upgrade anywhere between rounds 2-4

  26. Joeypoppems Says:

    *deep RB class

  27. Waterboy Says:

    @Andy Norton
I don’t want Mixon unless he’s available in the 3rd or 4th rd. I was saying I don’t see him being any better than Sims.

  28. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    @Jameisbucsfan

Bucky brooks mock drafts are inaccurate in april. In January they are basically just guesses.

  29. TeddyTB Says:

I feel like evaluating rbs is easier than most positions if you know what to look for. While dalvin is an outstanding athlete Mixon looks like the MAN! He just looks like that rare complete back in skills with the speed and size you usually don’t get.

  30. Jameisbucsfan Says:

No other running back in the draft is a legitimate homerun threat every time he touches the ball. I believe that he will be gone before fournet in the top 10. But if for some reason he is still there at 19 he should be taken in a heartbeat.

  31. Waterboy Says:

Evaluating RB’s used to be easier but now that a lot of college teams run gimmick offenses is a lot tougher. That’s why you’re now seeing guys like Bishop Sankey and Sims getting drafted ahead of a guy like Devonte Freeman.

Every handoff that I’ve seen Mixon take is out of shotgun/pistol formation it’s different running and reading defenses from a pro formation. My earlier post is blocked but go out to draft breakdown and compare Joe Mixon’s college film to Charles Sims college film. They both look like the same back to me and both played in systems where they never lined up and had to read the flow of a defense from a pro or power formation.

  32. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    Ju cracey mane

  33. Blake_bucsfan Says:

You can get away with saying that the offenses they played in were somewhat similar. But their running styles are completely different. Even in College Sims got the majority of his production running to the outside edge. Not between the tackles.

Joe Mixon is much more of a between the tackles runner.

  34. Waterboy Says:

Go look at the film. Mixon looks like Sims 2.0. Both are dynamic players but neither of them are between the tackle runners or every down backs in the NFL. You can get away with just being fast in college but ask Reggie Bush where that’ll get you in the NFL. I think the Texas RB will be better at the next level.

  35. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I have dude, I’ve watched every single Joe mixon game on Draftbreakdown. And I don’t see sims at all.

  36. Waterboy Says:

Even on Mixon’s between the tackle runs he wasn’t touched or had to break tackles they just tricked teams and caught the defense out of place.

  37. Blake_bucsfan Says:

okey dokey, whatever you say bub.

  38. Waterboy Says:

Perine is more of their downhill runner.

  39. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Who plays in the same offense you just accused of being a gimmick offense? Solid Logic bro.

  40. Waterboy Says:

We’ll see down the road. I think he’ll be decent but nothing special.

  41. Bucnut2 Says:

If cook is there I am good with drafting him, if not, I say we select the best player available. We have a lot of holes and this draft is REALLY deep at both WR and RB.

  42. BuccaneEric75 Says:

To me, Talib sounded like a guy trying to make the interviewer happy. He knew what Joe was going for and he didn’t bite. He knows Jameis is neck and neck with Cam for 3rd place based on this past seasons play. Joes (Steve’s) follow up questions were batter up, trying to lead Talib to bad mouth Winston. I’m glad he didn’t bite. Winston has a bright future, but he’s not better than Ryan or Brees, and Talib knows it.

  43. SB Says:

I must say in my 5 years here, this is some of the most reassuring reading I have done on the comment threads here at JBFl As someone else pointed out earlier, the lack of Trolls here now that we are a winning team, is refreshing. A troll free world is better than never having to cross a bridge. 🙂

  44. SB Says:

People are complaining about the 51 Degrees in OTown and I am going out to continue to build on my son’s Snow Cave because it is a Balmy 26 outside with no clouds and no wind. Believe me. Up here that is Spring.

  45. Buccfan37 Says:

Atlanta may beat NE in the SB, that leaves only Carolina to not win a SB in our division. Cam has not slipped much, this division is tough. Atlanta with the edge this year, all three division mates will be nipping at their heels quickly as time flies.

  46. BuccaneEric75 Says:

SB, no complaints here! My wife and I just spent 5 days in Punta Cana. 85 degrees and sunny the whole time. There’s nothing like “all inclusive”. They brought beer to my room every morning and you don’t pay for food either!

  47. BuccaneEric75 Says:

SB, I did have to fend of the two guys on the beach at night that tried to sell me “cocahina”! I told them the beer was good enough for me! Lol

  48. SB Says:

Hush your mouth Eric! Been in on a few of those. Surfed all over the world when I was younger. Always looked for the ‘Inclusive’ deals. Sometimes I was Really fuzzy for competition the next day though. Well actually more so than not unfortunately.

  49. SB Says:

Btw. I want to run a 12 man Fantasy league next yr comprised of Bucs fans. I already run another league but this one I want All Bucs. Please let me know if you are interested anyone.

  50. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    I’m down.

  51. BuccaneEric75 Says:

SB, I hear ya. My wife won the trip on the radio. She wins stuff all of the time. Anyway, I though it would be “third world” and all, but it was sweet. We had to pay taxes before the trip, which was about 600$, but it was worth it. We met another couple on our first day that paid 900$ a piece for the trip. If anyone ever goes to the DR, make sure you stay at the RIU resort. They only have Presidente beer, but there is a liquor bar in the room. We ate at the Steakhouse and the buffet mostly. The other places are more ethnic and would only be good to someone who’s hardcore into that.

  52. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    @ SB sign me up!

  53. SB Says:

Nice….Good to see the interest. The Pickem this yr garnered over 60 entrants but only about 20 actually kept up with it. Congrats again to St. Aug Buc. I will Definitely start a league seeing as we will prolly have enough participants.

  56. BuccaneEric75 Says:

SB, I’m in for your league. I promise to participate this time. I forgot about the ESPN pool after week 1. I think it was week 4 that I remembered about it! No reason to play at that point. Lol

  57. NFLNut Says:

If you’ve got one game to win with Tampa’s surrounding cast and just the QB missing … I’d take

1- Brees (the guy is a veteran first ballot HOF who will probably retire as the NFL’s all-time leader in yards and TD’s … so for now he’s still #1 in the division)

    2 – Jameis

3 – Cam (The guy won MVP last year on a team where his biggest offensive weapon was an old TE … Cam’s a bad man; he’s just less of a pocket passer than I’d like and I still question his leadership skills despite the amazing 17-2 record last year)

4 – Ryan (Just last season their were Falcons fans who wanted Ryan traded … he’s having a great year but plays on a LOADED squad … he’s just not that great of a “do it all” QB to me.
