Will Gholston Out
December 30th, 2016Could Will Gholston have played his final game with the Bucs?
The versatile defensive lineman is out for Sunday’s season finale (barring an Act of God) against the Stinking Panthers. He’s still nursing a dislocated elbow, per today’s injury report.
Gholston is the lone Bucs player declared out. Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves is listed as questionable with an abdomen injury. He was limited in practice today. Godser Cherilus is also questionable with both a groin and ankle injury. He fully participated in practice.
Demar Dotson has cleared concussion protocol and is a green light for Sunday.
For the Stinking Panthers, Charles Johnson is out as is backup quarterback and Lovie Smith scourge Derek Anderson. Interestingly, the triplets of Carolina, Cam Newton, Greg Olsen and Jonathon Stewart, are all listed as questionable.

@Joe … “Could Will Gholston have played his final game with the Bucs?” Simple answer to that question: NO! Not re-signing Will would be just as dumb as not re-signing Michael Bennett. Correction, it’d be even dumber.

Defense- Gholston is not the impact player that Bennet was/is. The Bucs have to use caution with over-valueing (I think I made up a word there!) him. IMO.
@Joe- NFL Network reported this morning that Olsen would not play. Smoke screen maybe?

We need DE’s who can pressure the QB, then we can get Run-Stuffers DT’s instead of Pass Rushing DT’s.

Agreed defense. Michael bennett was also 3 years older then will and gholston was raw af coming out. Hes just now coming into his own imo. Well regret it

Bring Gholston back. He is a hard working and loyal. He is on the brink of dominance. This team will never get back to prominence if it lets Young, rising players go. It has the cap room. Use it.

Joe can only ho by the official injury report. Officially he has not been declared out. Doesn’t mean he will be active Sunday.

I think it would br foolish to let him walk. Kid is still young and at the very least that is some great depth to have on the teams with all the injuries. It better than shopping for grocery baggers and customer service reps half way through the season whwn someone goes down. He knows the defensive and has been a force on the field. Why let him walk for another question mark on the team. It a no brainer if you ask me.

@ Defense Rules
I agree with you 100% Bruh.

@Defense Rules
I also agree. But then I assign a large amount of value to a player who has demonstrated his skills as a Buc. At least you know what you have.
Gholston might still have a little upside as a pass rusher but even if he doesn’t his versatility makes him very valuable on this DL where he can play inside or out.
In addition I like our team chemistry right now. Gholston seems to be part of the new look Bucs.

Anyone watching Solomon Thomas from Stanford? That’s a baller on the d line. Big time player showing up big at the most important time of big games…
December 30th, 2016 at 7:18 pm
It shouldn’t be his last game as a buc!
December 30th, 2016 at 7:25 pm
Gholston’s price is down. First, he’s missing the last two games of the seaon. Oh sure, his agent and a physical will say he can play. Hmmm….who comes to mind on that? LG perhaps? Bucs should lock him up, ask him to come back after playing free agency. He’s worth $6M. Perhaps 7, certainly not 8. Offer him $33M, five years, $17 guaranteed over two years. That would keep him here.

Losing Gholston is nowhere near the impact of losing Bennett. I hope they can re-sign him to a friendly deal, though.
December 30th, 2016 at 8:48 pm
Just think, if Dominick didn’t have a hard one for Bowers, Bennett might still be here.
December 30th, 2016 at 10:18 pm
On what planet is he worth 17 million dollars over two years? He is a good run-stuffing DE, nothing more. I definitely want him back, but he cannot be paid like that.
December 30th, 2016 at 11:07 pm
As much as I like him, I trust Hayes and his decisions on the d line. I think he will stick around. He is still young and has a higher ceiling. I would keep him

Leads D line in tackles

Something to be said about a D Linemen not missing a game in his career untill the last two… And I am willing to bet, Big Will would have, willed himself to play, if you will. But the team willfully shut him down knowing the teams out there willing to pay for him… Only thing left for me to say???? WILL SEE :-p

letting gholston go would send wrong message to team.He has grinded out
a pretty good career and is valuable piece of the Dline. How much is clear, after
the way we have been run on since his injury.
The good thing is Koetter appreciates his work ethic and I would hope he goes to bat for him.
Also good piece on him and Akeem Spence deep in Fab Five on pewter report.
