Wester Now A Starter?
December 19th, 2016Last night in the fourth quarter, when the Bucs needed blocking the most, veteran right tackle Gosder Cherilus turned into a tree stump.
The former first round pick, playing for Demar Dotson who is in concussion protocol, was worthless in pass blocking.
Joe hesitates to refer to Cherilus as “Raggedy Ann” the way he attempted to pass block because Joe doesn’t want to insult ragdolls.
It was really bad. And to make matters worse, the abuser was a cat the Cowboys pulled off Kansas City’s practice squad last year, David Irving.
Irving had a game most pass rushers dream of with two sacks, five quarterback hits and a pass defended — all in the fourth quarter!
If Bucs fans were shocked at how Cherilus virtually stood there and watched Irving beat up America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, well, join the club. Irving couldn’t believe it either, so he told Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News.
“I never even thought that I would be in the NFL,” Irving said, the ball awarded to the Sunday Night Football player of the game tucked in his locker at AT&T Stadium. “It’s amazing that I’m here… “
Never thought he would be in the NFL! And this guy absolutely took Cherilus to the dry cleaners. It was so bad if Irving was a dog he would have lifted his hind leg on Cherilus.
It was so brutal, the Bucs pulled Cherilus off the field in the middle of a possession and replaced him with Leonard Wester, a rookie from Division-II Missouri Western. Joe can never remember a former first round pick of an offensive lineman being yanked off the field for poor play in the middle of a possession to be replaced by a Division-II rookie.
It’s pretty obvious Cherilus’ age has caught up with him and he simply cannot stop any defensive end with a modicum of quickness.

Simply embarrassing. I’ve been a Bucs Fan since the 90s and I think that’s the worst you series I’ve ever seen. The last couple series in the 4th quarter last night. But the good news is Our Fate is still in our hands. Have faith cuz we will rebound. I was very emotional last night because we should have won that game. I apologize if I offended anyone in the comment section.

Tree stumps are at least hard to move. Gos was getting put on his ass almost every pass play in the fourth. I’ve never seen anything like it!
December 19th, 2016 at 11:46 am
Let wester play a paraplegic midget can block better than Gos or Dotson
December 19th, 2016 at 11:46 am
We must focus on getting Winston o line help. Draft and free agency. Our running game must work if we want to win in Dec and Jan. Period
December 19th, 2016 at 11:48 am
Pick up someone from Waivers.
Dotson sucks less, but sucks still
December 19th, 2016 at 11:49 am
Rob I agree on line is a priority but in order for running game to work Jameis needs at least one more receiver and a reliable back. Bucs do not have a reliable back on roster.
December 19th, 2016 at 11:53 am
First round we will be picking 20+. Get a Tackle, and push over Smith. Fill 2 positions with 1 pick.
We don’t need to draft a WR in the first, that’s just silly. A good QB will make any WR dangerous; ask Jameis the last 5 weeks, Newton last year, or Brady the past 10 years.

I duno how anyone can say “we should have won that game”
We were absolutely out matched and destroyed in the trenches on both sides. D-line could barely do anything. McCoy even with 1 on 1s lost his battles. The o-line has sucked all year in run blocking and is just average at pass blocking.
To me this game was a good measuring stick for our talent level. We were severely outmatched on the lines and still almost won. I can live with that.
We need another disruptive DT, DE, and a new RT
December 19th, 2016 at 11:56 am
All true yet the Bucs still had a lead in the fourth quarter.
December 19th, 2016 at 12:01 pm
Dallas had a historic night for qb and rb, personal #s for rb anyway. They were on fire in the trenches.
We were horrible almost all game and we still almost won. So he’ll yes we should have won that game. I’ll get grilled by you guys but I believe our team is bette, excluding the offensive line r. Play that game 5 times and I bet we win 3 at leased. Just wait, Winston is young and growing. I’m so happy he is on my team.

Those turnovers killed but i seen a lot of good stuff…that dallas o line is the real deal…our defense showed up im proud of the fight our defense put up…if jaboo didnt fumble in our territory just giving the cowboys that touchdown we coulda stole last nite game….dont get me started on that defensive in who took cherilous to school in the 4th quarter
December 19th, 2016 at 12:07 pm
Lol my brother is a Carolina panther fan and he keeps saying the fact the cowboys beat us the panthers with one of the worst o-lines in the league is going to embarrass the Bucs I’m still smh look Dallas has On of the best o lines on the legue and for us to hang tight and get the lead in the fourth quarter I can be happy saying hey we not there yet but we are not that far off
December 19th, 2016 at 12:24 pm
Did Gos not show this in practice? I would think someone would of seen this guy’s performance on tape and brought in someone else to compete… Cost us the game in the 4th quarter…
December 19th, 2016 at 12:45 pm
Gawd, what a bunch of crybabies. You all are an embarrassment cos there are other teams’ fans checking out Bucs blogs now. Fact: the final score was Cowdungs 26-Bucs 20. Bucs gave Cowdungs 10 freebies off turnovers. Yet they only won by 6. They are 12-2. They have the best oline in the NFC. Buuuuuttttt, Bucs lost. Right. Now, exactly what are all the whiners gonna do when the Aints get beat on Christmas Eve? How about the Panthers at RayJay 1/1/2017? Bucs have already beat both of them. We might as well do a sweep cos neither Aints nor Panthers going anywhere. If the Dixie Chicks are blessed with the luck, they will win their final 2 games. So be it. No reason why Bucs can’t do the same thing, right Joe?

“…if jaboo didnt fumble in our territory just giving the cowboys that touchdown we coulda stole last nite game….dont get me started on that defensive in who took cherilous to school in the 4th quarter”
You mean when he was hit in the middle of his throwing motion? How many times was Prescott pressured or hurried last night. Their O line was solid and our DC dialed up zero pressure.
December 19th, 2016 at 12:52 pm
The only reason we were even in that game was because the Cowboys kept committing stupid penalties. The Bucs were never in that game despite the scoreboard.
The Offensive line is garbage, especially Goster the stump Cherilus. Jaemis spent the majority of the time running for his life.
The Defensive line isn’t much better. Prescott had all day to pick them apart, ZERO pressure. And they were swiss cheese when it came to run defense, giving up 8 yards per run.
Even if we do manage to back into the playoffs we won’t go far. This is by no measure a championship team.
December 19th, 2016 at 12:56 pm
The last time I saw a Bucs OL treated like that I was watching Sean Mahan.
December 19th, 2016 at 1:08 pm
Buc fan since 76 you do realize that James had an unchararacteristically bad game? Two turnovers by him resulting in 14 points for the Cowboys. Gosder Cherillus is a back up and hopefully Dotson will be available going forward. With all that being said we had the lead in the 4th quarter. If Jameis has just an average game and the dumpster fire at right tackle is replaced by Dotson, the Bucs could very well beat Dallas. The team lost to a 12-2 team by 6 points in a game where the franchise QB performed poorly. The over reactions on here are riduculous.
December 19th, 2016 at 2:03 pm
Cherilus was a liability out there for sure.
The worst IMO was when he got out front of the Sims screen play and totally whiffed his block. Even Collinsworth commented about the great call and how perfectly it was set up against their defensive call. That play could have broken the game open. Would have been at least 20-25 yards down into field goal range and perhaps even a TD – we’ve seen Sims make dynamic plays in that situation before. Instead of going up by 10 or 6, we punt and never score another point…. All because of one badly missed block. OUCH!
No wonder the offensive brain trust threw a no name RT out there at the end – he literally could not have done worse than what was happening to Cherilus.
Dotson is not the long term answer obviously – but we sure need him back for these last 2 division games – and hopefully 3-4 games beyond the end of the regular season.

True. I just reserve the “should have won” comments for games in which we looked like the better team and just made too many mistakes.
We never looked like the better team except for that stretch in the 3rd quarter where we were going no-huddle. That was our only chance to give Winston time & a clean pocket. Other than that their D-line outplayed ours all game. Their O-line made it look like we were a college team or something playing against NFL lineman lol

Cornelius
The best team doesn’t always win the game. Just cuz a team plays better doesn’t mean you win.
There’s a reason you play the game. The score board don’t lie. We were in a position to win the game irregardless of your ignorant and negative opinion
December 19th, 2016 at 4:07 pm
Joe, just in case ion did not tell you, that Monday spot is on the show of the guy that put up the billboards..
December 19th, 2016 at 4:08 pm
Which is a great show. Ian fills in when they are on vacation as well.
December 19th, 2016 at 5:54 pm
Bucs need to focus on O-line and D-line in the off season. Those are our biggest areas of weakness and the lack of depth really showed last night.
December 19th, 2016 at 7:18 pm
Lol so saying we looked outmatched and looked like an inferior team against the best team in the NFC and arguably the NFL is being “ignorant and negative”
just trying to be objective man. I wanted that win but no shame in competing till the end with a superior team.
There’s a difference between saying we could have won a game or saying we should have won a game. At least to me. “Should have” is something I only say when I know we’re the better team on paper; or when we play like the better team even if we aren’t. Neither was the case and there’s no shame or hate behind me saying that
I love where this teams headed
