Respect Is Coming

December 4th, 2016
Respect for a reborn franchise.

Respect for a reborn franchise.

Bucs fans, it seems, are more concerned with how folks on national platforms think about the team rather than the way the Bucs are playing.

This angst should be about to dry up.

Yes, the Bucs had won three in a row (now four). They beat two powerhouse teams in the Chiefs and Seahawks on consecutive Sundays. They were a game out of first place and, as the teams were seeded prior to today’s game, the Bucs would have been the No. 7 seed, or in other words, the last team to miss out of a playoff berth.

Joe was getting a lot of people Twittering at him that the Bucs were not getting respect. Hey, in the recent history of the Bucs, there was legitimate doubt among many that the past three weeks were a fluke.

Go on the road to the west coast and face a dangerous quarterback in a trap game and let’s see how you do, it seemed many national pundits were saying.

So what did the Bucs do? Losing a tight end and two wide receivers to injuries, the Bucs rallied from a deficit to beat the Chargers in their own ancient crib.

Last week, the Bucs were starting to get on the radar of the BSPN types. Now, you watch. They will be the story of the week. The once moribund Bucs are now atop the NFC South in December.

Even Peter King Twittered while watching today’s game that the Bucs “are pretty good” and that Jameis is growing into the type of quarterback who makes players around him better.

Bucs fans, you want attention for all the right reasons? It’s coming because the Bucs have earned it.

The Bucs fought for and earned their respect today. All week long, we heard about the vaunted #1 offense in the AFC, how the offense averages 28 points a game, how the Chargers are the best 5-6 out there (whatever that means) or that they were much better than their record, and how Joey Bosa was going to terrorize Jameis Winston, and the Bucs weren’t given a chance. Even after the game, the first headline out of NFL.com was: “Bucs Still Have a Roberto Aguayo Problem”. We’ll deal with that “problem” in the off season. For now, let’s enjoy the win! Go Bucs!
