Gholston Gives Status Update
December 7th, 2016Of all the injuries the Bucs suffered Sunday at San Diego, the one worrying Joe most is Will Gholston.
Jenna Laine of BSPN and long-time Bucs beat guy Woody Cummings both spotted Gholston in a boot and on crutches after the win over San Diego. Cummings saw Gholston carted to the team bus.
Now Joe was interviewing Gerald McCoy after the game when the locker room had all but been cleared out. A Bucs staffer asked Joe to step aside so Gholston could get to his locker next to GMC’s. Joe turned around and saw Gholston heavily limping and he needed assistance from the Bucs staffer to get from the shower to his locker.
By nature, Joe is a cynic if not a skeptic. Gholston, a good guy, has never been comfortable with media. Joe gets that and has no issue with Gholston whatsoever. Some guys like talking to the fourth estate, some don’t. Different strokes for different folks.
So Joe thought it was rather peculiar that Gholston, as the local pen and mic club entered the Bucs’ locker room today, stood right in front of the doorway for all to see, not wearing any boot and no crutch in sight.
Was that just a show or is Gholston that quick to recover? Time will tell.
Joe got a chance to talk to Gholston briefly and he gave no commitment, yay or nay, if he would play Sunday against the Saints. Joe asked Gholston if he would be ready to go Sunday and Gholston said, “If they [the medical staff] tell me I can play, I will play.”
So in other words, Joe will wait until Friday’s injury report when players are declared eligible before Joe takes any guess as to Gholston’s status.

I’m more concerned wit the aints this week than I am of cboys next week. Here’s a question for you all “when was the last time a team with a 21st rank defense won a superbowl???”
December 7th, 2016 at 1:53 pm
And a rookie QB..
December 7th, 2016 at 1:57 pm
Is it just Kobe but
Every thread has Jenna Laine included in it?
Becareful Joes! Watchout for those perky personalities and that short skirt!
She will get whatever she wants! Who am i kidding. Its too late
This place will be Jennasbucfan next week

Would rather him sit out and be ready for Dallas.
December 7th, 2016 at 2:24 pm
@R.O.
agree…best way to beat the Dallas is to stop Zeke and make Dak beat us through the air. Wouldn’t mind throwing a couple of blitz packages at DP either.
December 7th, 2016 at 2:32 pm
We will need more of a pass rush this game anyways due to Bree’s. Look for the Kraken to destroy the Brees! Noah will have a coming out party in the media spotlight. All Bucs fans rise up this Sunday and let’s be loud!! I’ll be there with all Bucs faithful getting the crowd pumped. Don’t forget every blade of grass. Keep the faith! Go Bucs!!!

C’mon big Will – we need ya buddy.
Hope Licht is able to re-sign Gholston to a fair to both sides 3-4 year deal at the conclusion of this season.
Assuming his sack total stays below 5 – I imagine $4-5M per year with a decent chunk of that guaranteed will be in the right neighborhood.

Well damn Joe you got me all excited w/ that caption….
December 7th, 2016 at 3:17 pm
Kobe:
Joe is giving Jenna fair credit. She told Joe after the game in San Diego what she saw, and she reported it. If Joe was an arse, he would have hijacked her info.
Joe doesn’t see any reason to apologize for giving people credit for the work they have done, sorry.

Back to Mom’s basement Kobe Beefer….you already had your meatloaf.
December 7th, 2016 at 5:20 pm
we should limit his reps this week if hurt. i’m not trying to look past the saints, it’s just the kind of game where your pass rushers are more important than your run stoppers. if Gholston can’t get right for the Dallas game our odds of hanging with the Cowboys and their beastly run blockers goes way down.

I am hearing Demar Dotson has a concussion, and that Chris Conte, Evan Smith, and Luke Stocker both practice LIMITED today. Michael Ghoulston is not even showing up on the injury report. Odd to hear about Dotson. First we’ve known. Comes from Sportsnola out of Louisiana. For the Saints not practicing was TE Josh Hill (Fibula), LB Craig Robertson (Shoulder), and WR Michael Thomas (Foot). None of these guys for the Saints are starters.

Look, I think the Bucs can beat the Boys but they can also lose to the Saints, and that’s a division matchup. Assuming the Falcons win both of theirs, the Bucs have win all three of theirs (2 x Saints, 2 x Panthers). If I had to pick ONE of the four to lose, I’d pick the Cowboys…though I think they go 4 of 4 if they stay healthy and take it one game at a time.
December 7th, 2016 at 6:12 pm
@Fred E. Buc,
Michael Thomas is the Saints leading receiver.
December 7th, 2016 at 7:23 pm
Dave Pear…thanks for that. I do see Thomas just beats out Brandon Cooks by about 20 yards. I suppose Thomas is considered their third WR?
December 7th, 2016 at 7:27 pm
HA! Maybe our man William, who is not on the injury report, was thinking about that six hour flight home. He can sit in one of the smaller seats cramped in a sardine…or kick back in a reclining first class seat with his feet elevated? Naw…
December 7th, 2016 at 7:32 pm
Well, bum me out, the Buccaneers.com report is different than the one I read on sportsnola. Conte and Stocker and others did not participate…but still no Martin or Ghoulston on the report. And sadly, looks like Verner was taking care of business with his father who just passed last week.
BUCCANEERS
S Chris Conte (chest) – did not participate
OT Demar Dotson (concussion) – did not participate
WR Adam Humphries (concussion) – did not participate
DT Gerald McCoy (foot) – did not participate
C Evan Smith (knee) – limited
TE Luke Stocker (ankle) – did not particpate
CB Alterraun Verner (non-injury) – did not participate
SAINTS
OT Terron Armstead (knee/ quad) – limited
TE Josh Hill (fibula) – did not particpate
RB Mark Ingram (toe/ knee) – limited
G Senio Kelemete (hip) – limited
RB Daniel Lasco (hamstring) – limited
LB Craig Robertson (shoulder) – did not participate
OT Zach Strief (elbow) – limited
WR Michael Thomas (foot) – did not participate
C Max Unger (foot) – limited

Having to use people you cut from your practice squad as main event players, that’s what makes me worried the most. I fully expect NO to put up at least 31, meaning the Bucs will need to score a lot of points – something they haven’t done this year all that much. If Sims is fully healthy, and I think he is, then perhaps the team lines him up at WR a lot more often, buy man, WR depth is a huge huge issue and in this particular game I think is the biggest issue we have. Brees will get his points, in particular if Mike Smith just sits back in his zones again as he did in the first half versus the Chargers – hopefully Dirk finally opens up the offense and worries less about turnovers than he does about creating points. Yes it’s all worked out well so far, but at some point they have to let Jameis play and see if he can outduel Brees – the issue is I’m not sure you can do that with only one NFL level WR on the team.
December 7th, 2016 at 8:40 pm
Mike Smith and Dirk Koetter know Sean Payton and Drew Brees well. Brees is dangerous but the Bucs Pass D is just doing too well right now, especially the pass rush. Brees is not so tall and he typically has trouble getting over top of McCoy. Humphries is out likely, but Shorts was not a major contributor (though he had a couple of good games) and Sheppard has stepped up. Brate and Evans are fine, and Saints D is not the greatest. I see the Bucs putting up 30 and Saints maybe 24, with some of that in garbage time.

“Brees is not so tall and he typically has trouble getting over top of McCoy. ”
I think Brees, against the Bucs, averages around 350 yards and 3 TDs. Sure the Bucs will get the better of him every once in awhile, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to be one of those games. Jameis is going to have to outscore them – but if not, if the defense again shows up, then bravo. Taking nothing against the way they’ve been playing, they’ve been great, but at some point talent is an issue and the Bucs gave up a bunch of big plays last week, including the game tying TD that Benjamin dropped when he was wide open. Brees will get his points, so Dirk has to let Winston play and not just run up the middle on every 1st down in the first half. Not criticizing Dirk either, just saying I think this will be a shootout, so the Bucs need to be ready for that and change things up this week on offense.
December 7th, 2016 at 9:36 pm
We need him badly for the next two games with the running games each teams have. However, I feel like we need him more against Dallas – I’d be ok sitting him this weekend.
December 7th, 2016 at 11:41 pm
If that same defense that held the Seahawks to 5 points shows up Sunday (which I believe will happen) then this game will be the 1st time the Bucs embarrassed the saints for once I with Robert ayers it’s time for us to be the bully
December 8th, 2016 at 12:58 am
Yes, we’ll blow them out . The Saints will try to compete a you all believe next time in New Orleans but we’ll beat them then too
