Doug Martin Speaks
December 24th, 2016Joe caught up to Doug Martin when the running back was leaving the locker room in a hurry tonight in New Orleans.
Martin said multiple times that “it was coach’s decision” and Martin told Joe he got the word on Friday.
Martin said he was advised that the Bucs would be going with the guys the team believed had the best chance to win.
Joe’s been writing about Martin’s struggles, from bad production to terrible running reads like against the Saints two weeks ago in a play that resulted in a safety.
Joe’s glad Martin isn’t sick and doesn’t appear to be punished because of a behavior issue.
It will be very interesting to see if Martin returns to the active list next week for the season finale.
That could say an awful lot about how the Bucs proceed this offseason.
“We got four backs. We can’t give’em all touches,” Dirk Koetter said after the game.

soooo . . . everyone cool with Roberto Aguayo now ???
December 24th, 2016 at 7:45 pm
Yeah Martin might be done as a Buc. Good riddance!
December 24th, 2016 at 7:48 pm
Same ol average Bucs team to me. JW having ANOTHER pedestrian game. Don’t ever call him Americas QB til he wins a playoff game. Otherwise he’s just another almost-there Buc QB
December 24th, 2016 at 7:50 pm
It’s not Martin’s fault. The Oline is Horriful
December 24th, 2016 at 7:50 pm
Can we trade for Johnson, that guy is just amazing
December 24th, 2016 at 7:52 pm
terrible running reads like against the Saints two weeks ago in a play that resulted in a safety.
Really? who put us in that position after the kickoff? Any one of our rbs would have gotten the safety. Bad oline horrible play call. Not defending Doug and hoping this will put him in overdrive the next time he gets a chance. I just don’t see why you hate him so bad.
December 24th, 2016 at 7:55 pm
Well joe u had the inside scoop the whole time. Martin always use to losing. He cant handle winning. Few can’t I see
December 24th, 2016 at 7:55 pm
Writing on the wall we going after Cook people.
December 24th, 2016 at 7:56 pm
Nope
December 24th, 2016 at 7:58 pm
It’s funny to see how many people want to jump on Doug Martin but no one in this great state of Florida will say JW is a terrible QB. He is the smartest dumba$$. Crucial mistakes week in and out.

Nole on Sat who does this cook play for?
December 24th, 2016 at 8:06 pm

December 24th, 2016 at 8:09 pm
Thanks

Martin still has guaranteed money thru next season so he’ll definitely be back next year but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see them spend a mid-round pick on a RB.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:14 pm
I’d love to see this guy do some soul searching and find his form again.
Off topic, can anyone tell us what we need for a playoff birth now? Besides a miracle and all that? We don’t need to be there I know, we are still not a complete team I know, but having a playoff game this year may work wonders for next year. I am so freaking happy I’m conditioned to losing so I don’t kick my dog or something stupid like that. This feeling reminds me of my feelings from 97 to 01. We’re close people and it’s definitely going to come down to strong defense again. These losses may be our blessingin disguise as we keep our defensive coordinator for some years. Winston had another bad outing, let’s hope his maturation goes sky high when he’s only 23. I love this team and I feel so damn bad for Carr and Mariota. GOOOOOO BUCS!!!!!!
December 24th, 2016 at 8:14 pm
501 if we go get that guy @nd a right tackle in free agency all our offensive woahs will be solved bro . youtube Dalvin Cook and see what I’m talkin bro.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:16 pm
Need some OL help bad, need to
Go get 2-3 free agents
December 24th, 2016 at 8:18 pm
Gosh, seems like we are drafting a running back every year, I don’t expect them to draft a back next year, theres bigger holes to fill on offense.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:19 pm
Blackmagic we need the lions and skins to lose out and win next week.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:20 pm
Guy is useless. It doesn’t matter what he says in this situation. He is one of the top paid backs in the league that was relegated to the bench when the team needed him most. This will be one of the biggest stories of the offseason.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:28 pm
RB in first round would be a bone headed move I’m sorry that’s not what we need to spend a 1st round pick on. This team doesn’t have that kind of luxury right now.
OL, DL, are biggest need followed by WR, then S
Address what you can partially through FA and then find where best player + value + those needs need intersect in the draft rounds 1 – 4

Lamarcus, Joe didn’t have the inside scoop, one of the posters did, and Joe said he was making it up.
Folks, yes, Joe shot that one-liner at the commenter in here. Joe doesn’t break news in the comments. And a lot of what Joe types in the comments is sarcastic. Regardless, Joe was not stunned by Martin’s benching. The film never lies. However, Joe did not know of it — at least enough to write about it — before this afternoon.–Joe

Cook is a game changer the likes of which we have NEVER seen in a Bucs uni (offensively). Im down.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:34 pm
If Dalvin is there when we pick, what o lineman will be there when we pick that will be better? Cam is likely gone at that point. Of course so much can happen between now and then. But I think Cook will prove more valuable than any lineman at that point.
December 24th, 2016 at 8:38 pm
Martin will probably go somewhere else and have a HoF career.
December 24th, 2016 at 9:13 pm
@EA. Thanks man. Let’s hope. I don’t expect a bowl, but these guys really need some bright lights to get the jitters out. GOOOOOO BUCS!!!!!!
December 24th, 2016 at 9:21 pm
Ac/Dc loving blah blah blah . . . Might be asking dirk to see what it is like without him , so off-season he can move him and have knowledge
December 24th, 2016 at 9:32 pm
No more FA please. 90% of players play for a contract, when they get paid as 22 did they stop doing the little things that got them the contract. That’s why it’s a must to build through the draft
December 24th, 2016 at 10:16 pm
draft dalvin cook
December 24th, 2016 at 11:13 pm
You need a win and you go and pull a stunt like this…when I heard Doug was a Coach’s Decision Scratch….I knew we would lose! I hope he found out whatever the hell he was looking for!! 1 game to play with 1 game to win to show improvement over last year’s team! What a bone head move!!
December 25th, 2016 at 12:00 am
OMG. If anything look at Hargreaves
He cannot tackle for beans.. and your O line
Is Horrible! And to mention your kicker
Yeah he’s doing good now but if he did
Better earlier in the season we might have not been
In this predicament. (Oakland game)
SMDH!!
December 25th, 2016 at 3:20 am
Some of you guys need to chill, the team has done better than expected while facing a ton of injuries. Four of our losses have been by a touchdown or less which means probably a handful of plays go differently and we are a playoff team.
December 25th, 2016 at 9:49 am
Martin doesn’t have the fire from a year ago. Combination of bad offensive line and banking from a new contract. Rodgers in my opinion is the best back of the 4 and wants to play ( and it shows). Upgrade the offensive line and grab a clutch receiver.
