SOS: No Pass Rush
November 4th, 2016Joe swears he’s witnessed better defenses in Pasco County high school summer league 7-on-7 games than what the Bucs trotted out on the Den of Depression turf.
The Bucs couldn’t even force the Dixie Chicks to punt last night.
And it is the same old s(p)it, said Bucs coach Dirk Koetter: No pass rush.
“Definitely pass rush and coverage go hand in hand,” Koetter said after the game. “We’re not getting the pass rush and we’re not covering very well either.”
At this point Joe doesn’t know what is more galling: the fact the Bucs have gone a decade without a double-digit sack man or that they are so allergic to winning at home.
Joe would just like to remind folks that Yannick Ngakoue of the Jags, a rookie defensive end, has four sacks and three forced fumbles through eight games.
The Bucs couldn’t trade up in the third round to get him because they traded back into the second round to draft a (lousy) kicker and spent all their stored gunpowder.

Well, they came into the season with 3 injury prone DTs, injury prone Ayers along with a bunch of one-dimensional DEs.
They are so weak in the trenches and they did next to nothing to address it in the offseason.

I don’t care that we didn’t draft another DE. We got Spence in the second, and I think he’ll be fine. However, I don’t understand why we never get a premier pass rusher (and no, Ayers is not a premier pass rusher). It just really seems like having a pass rush isn’t a high priority. Why not bring in Freeney? Why not give up a little and get Cameron Wake? I don’t really care what we have to give up, just bring in someone with some history of consistent pass rushing. I’m sick of projects and one hit wonders. You absolutely can’t stop anyone in this league without a legit pass rush.

But but…..the receivers for Atlanta were wide open off the line of scrimmage. We never, ever, ever get coverage sacks. And at least on some plays I saw lineman around Ryan. There were many many plays where a DB, lb, or safety were no where around. Other than getting his jock handed to him by Freeman, did Chris Conte even play?
November 4th, 2016 at 11:19 am
How about the fact that Jason Licht has drafted one, count em ONE Defensive lineman in his 3 year reign of terror with the organization. He’s drafted like 8 guards for some dumbass reason. I say burn down the organization and start OVER!!!! Keep only Evans, North Korea’s QB, Marpet, Pamphile, and Kwon.
Make the Bucs Great Again!!!!!!

What happened to all of those exotic blitzes that I was reading about all off season? This looks about like Lovie Smiths defense if not worse.

Whatever you do, don’t hold the guy responsible for acquiring quality talent accountable. It’s bad for business.
Incidentally, he is also fully clothed at the bottom of his swimming pool. That’s how he gets his best work done. A real genius.

GMC stole Spence’s sack btw… Spence flies around the edge!
November 4th, 2016 at 11:43 am
LOL!
November 4th, 2016 at 11:46 am
Fix the lines and you fix the team. Simple as that.
November 4th, 2016 at 11:47 am
I didn’t know we had only drafted 1 DL in three years. My policy would be to draft at least 1-2 OL and DL every year, unless you KNOW you have enough to quality depth.
November 4th, 2016 at 11:47 am
@DallasBuc,
I don’t entirely disagree with you. But here’s the thing – who are you going to hire to take his place? Do you know any experienced, successful GM’s out there looking for a job? And do you have inside info that said GM would even want to come to Tampa?
Licht has made his share of mistakes, no doubt. I’m not giving him a pass. In his defense, he has had some pretty good draft picks, especially comparing him to previous GM’s we’ve had. Every single GM makes mistakes every single year. However, when you are a bad team, each mistake gets magnified. He took a huge chance not bringing in WR talent. It failed. However, we can’t plug every hole in a year or two, unless you are absolutely perfect in your drafting and free agency (which no one is). Another problem is we are relying on rookies to have immediate impact at positions where rookies typically don’t (DE and CB). Not to mention we have new coaches on defense, and a brand new scheme, so it’s not like there’s veterans to help these rookies learn the system, because they don’t know it either.
It’s a mistake to get rid of Licht right now. As much as it sucks, you have to allow him to build this team. Unless you know someone to replace him, we just have to wait it out. Sucks, I know.

Start playing 4 DE’s, and Replace the entire secondary except for # 28.

“GMC stole Spence’s sack btw… Spence flies around the edge!”

Criticism of GMC has reached a new level. He is now “stealing” sacks. LOL.

FIRE the defensive coordinator at the end of the season if he doesn’t start calling correct plays for the players he has. Keep DK for 2 more years as we have to have some sort of coaching stability!!! How injured is Famous? Bench him so he can rest and let MG8 play the Bears. 8-8 record this year.
November 4th, 2016 at 12:02 pm
How can you not give Mike Smith and Jason Licht and F ?!
November 4th, 2016 at 12:02 pm
Next year we better draft a Defensive Lineman whose name i cannot pronounce.
November 4th, 2016 at 12:11 pm

November 4th, 2016 at 12:41 pm
This team is soo bad and over paid… its time to make a statement and cut gerald mccoy the guy isnt worth it…

“Theres plenty of verry gpod and experienced front office execs”

Then go ahead and humor me and list 3.

And what exactly is that going to solve? Were you saying get rid of Revis too? Bennett? Talib (I’m guilty on that one)? Blount? It’s literally the stupidest thing you could possibly do to get rid of one of your very few good players. It shows an utter lack of intelligence. Nothing but a knee-jerk reaction. Embarrassing. Learn from the mistakes we’ve made in the past – don’t keep repeating them!!!!!!!
November 4th, 2016 at 12:54 pm
@Kobe,
While you are using google to find me 3, I think it’s only fair they have a track record equal to or better than Licht. How does it make sense to hire someone with less experience and success than the current GM?
November 4th, 2016 at 1:37 pm
All These fo guys names in all the major sports teams are not popular.
Licht past resume and tract record is terrible
This kicker picken buffoon is a joke in all the exe circles
Jon robinson is who we should have kept and will build a superbowl team. Maybe with tenn , maybe not but jon will
Licht makes peanuts and will be fired and replaced end of year. Thats a fact
November 4th, 2016 at 1:40 pm
@Kobe,
So you can’t name me 3?
His track record is terrible? He was with the Patriots and Cardinals!! I’d be willing to even agree with you, but saying idiotic statements like that make it impossible.
November 4th, 2016 at 1:49 pm
This team hasn’t had a good pass rush, since 2004. It’s not about one guy getting double digit sacks, because you can still suck at it as a unit (Oakland last year). It’s about working as a unit up front. We had the best to ever coordinate a pass rush in Rod Marinelli, but the days of Marinelli madness are over. Talent and someone to get that talent to mesh…where do you even begin to look? This defense, and organization as a whole, reminds me of the Colts of the early 80’s.
November 4th, 2016 at 4:20 pm
Kobe
Don’t worry Hawaiian can’t ever name 3 game changing plays GMC has made in the last 6 plus years. Kind of hypocritical Hawaiian you hounding on someone about examples when you are equally example challenged as well. But in fairness there was this one time when gmc grabbed little matty ryans ankle.
November 4th, 2016 at 4:44 pm
But TMax, last night he had the clean up sack fumble after the pressure from Spence made Ryan step up……oh wait….that didn’t change the game
November 4th, 2016 at 10:43 pm
@tmax and Chris,
You guys are freaking pathetic. First of all, you’ve been saying the same bull for months now. It’s so old, and ignorant. I’m not going to waste my time and explain it to you, because you are clearly too stupid to understand anyway. You’re the most pathetic excuse for a fan, and I seriously pity you and everyone you know.
