Jameis Is In The Dixie Chicks’ Heads

November 2nd, 2016
Undefeated playing Atlanta.

Undefeated playing Atlanta.

There are all sorts of things one can say about America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, through his first 23 games in the NFL.

He’s dynamic; he’s erratic; he’s inconsistent; he’s inaccurate; he’s accurate; he’s unpredictable.

But there is also a word you can use for Jameis when he plays the Dixie Chicks: undefeated.

So far in his early NFL career, Jameis owns Atlanta and is 3-0 against them. All close games.

Jameis beats them on the road (twice) and beats them at home. In fact, in his second win over the Dixie Chicks, Jameis may have made his most famous play to date: a run, no less.

Third-and-19, down a touchdown late, Jameis scrambled for 20 yards and a first down. He must have broken six tackles on the run. It even made the most bitter of Jameis haters stand up and applaud.

It didn’t hurt that the Dixie Chicks had a whole lot of quit in them, including former Bucs defensive end Adrian Clayborn, who had two mistackles on the play and watched as his teammates flailed at Jameis without result.

Yes, the Dixie Chicks know they haven’t yet figured out the young signal-caller of the Bucs, notes D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

What makes Winston so tough for the Falcons?

“Just his confidence and his competitiveness,” Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant said. “He’s not scared of the moment. He’s ready to step up and make those big throws. In the secondary, we have to be ready for that because we know he’s going to challenge us.”

Dixie Chicks coach Dan Quinn sort of echoes Trufant.

“One thing that jumps out when you watch him play is that he’s a terrific competitor,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “It shows on where he can extend plays, how he can convert a play where he seems like he’s hemmed up, and then all of a sudden he breaks a tackle and escapes out.

“You’ve seen him just throw some dimes outside on the run for touchdowns, so I think it’s his competitive spirit that he plays with that kind of energizes everybody else around him. I’ve got a lot of respect for his toughness. You see him stand in there; he’ll take the hit, stare right down at it, and make the throw. He’s got a lot of confidence in his receivers. He’s going to give them a shot at the ball.”

Here is the problem though: tomorrow night Jameis will have as targets Mike Evans, slot guy Rudy Humphries and the contents of the recycle bin that stood on the curb outside Team Glazer’s estate.

In the past, Jameis had Vincent Jackson and for one huge sh!t play, tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Those two are now gone.

Can Jameis overcome the obstacles of having but one true weapon and still maintain his hex over the Dixie Chicks?

Not just the falcons but against the south he really shows up

  2. Dave Says:

Hes questionable but show some respect for russell shepard all he does is make plays when he gets the chance and catches everything, at this point in career id take him over v jax any day

  3. Joe Says:

Hes questionable but show some respect for russell shepard

Respect is earned sir, not given. Pardon Joe if six or seven plays does not make Joe want to run to Walmart to buy bronze polish for Shepard’s bust in Canton.

Let’s see Shepard do this for five games or so in a row first before he’s anointed, shall we?

  4. BucFan20 Says:

Exactly. That is why we are not running out to buy polish for Winston’s bust in Canton either.

  5. Kobe Faker Says:

    Agreed dave

Vjac? Are posters and readers that stupid

Vjac averaged 60 snaps and 3 receptions per game. he had no tds the whole year. He caused numberous interceptions running the wrong routes and being a lazy malcontent

    Yikes

Shep caught 2 tds in 2 gamrs with limited snaps and came back in the game trying to help while not 100%. He is also going to try to play tommorrow even with a injuryed hip

  6. Kobe Faker Says:

    Joe

What do you consider vjacksons production this year?

*im not even talking about the ridiculous 10 mill contract

  7. Jonny 2.2 Says:

What we had playing against Atlanta in the season opener, that we do not have now is swagger. Interceptions, dumb penalties and what not, we need to go back to playing risk and reward football. Even if it means we get blown out the way we did against Cards. This also applies to defense. We can be a run heavy offense and still look high energy if we are taking a bold approach.

What we did against the Raiders with 1:50 remaining was absolutely deplorable and an indicative of loser mindset. We did not call a timeout when Raiders could not convert, we let them burn the clock to 1:20 before they punted and then we went full conservative.

  8. Pit Says:

Joe why all the hate on Shep? you better get used to it because our HC down have a choice but to give him more snaps on the field. I wonder if it was him and not ME on some of those throws he might have dove and caught one of those passes like he did with the TD.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I can appreciate a receiver needing to earn respect but it’s a long way from describing them as coming from a recycle bin.
How about at least a minimal amount of respect for our Buc players that have made our 53.
I’d bet Jameis shows them the respect they deserve.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

Winston 3-0 against the Falcons. Law of averages kick in. Where are all the predictions, time running short. I predict nobody has a clue if the Bucs can win a home game this year.

  11. Tampa Tony Says:

Gotta use Brate more offense has decent weapons just need a accurate qb and a coach who isn’t scared to attack

  12. orlbucfan Says:

It will be Mike Smith’s LBers and DBs vs. Raheem Morris’s receivers. Yep, he’s the guy coaching the Dixie Birds’ catchers. Smith better out coach tomorrow night. Let’s see how he calls this one for the Gang of 2 LBs: LVD and KWON. Koetter will do fine as will Famous. This one’s on Mike Smith. Go Tampa Bay!!

  13. AtlBucFanDan Says:

Gonna really need Shep, Rudy, Brate and Shorty McFly to really show up.

  14. grafikdetail Says:

funny how people that couldn’t even make a pop warner team — where everybody gets a trophy — try to talked down on world class athlete LOL

  15. MadMax Says:

I dread this one! We’re gonna be handed some payback. Dirty birds will probably score 40 or more….smh, thursday night prime time too, yuc!

  16. Spacebuc Says:

    Damn Skippy!

I am taking bets that this is gonna be a shootout.
    Over/under 63

Just hope Bucs honor 47 with a win.

I’ll be there with beer in hand, loving every minute of it

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Just keep the balls down low Jameis.

Like 2 feet or so lower on some of them.

    Settle deeeown.

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Joe

Why do you keep neglecting our Tight Ends. I did see a little love for Brate yesterday and the comparison to Tim Wright.

    Brate shows potential…no he’s not Olsen but he’s a good 2nd or 3rd target.

And Brandon Myers has already shown he’s a capable receiver. 79 receptions for Oakland, 47 the next year for the Gmen.

I know neither Brate nor Myers are known as stud blockers but I gotta wonder if we ran a two tight end set if that wouldn’t provide more protection for #3…they can help with double teams at least…and of course there are two more targets on the field with proven NFL hands.

  19. Chris Says:

Winston sucks. We screwed the pooch on missing out on Mariota. Watch his bal placement and accuracy and mechanics. Compare it to Winston. It’s not even close.

  20. richbucsfan Says:

I wish the best for Lynch. Hopefully, by the time he’s inducted in the HoF he will have tomorrow night’s game out of memory. It will be a dumpster fire and ruin Lynch’s induction to the Ring of Honor. There are no more John Lynch’s … not sure there could be with all the rules against hitting…Lynch earned and deserves all the accolades that come his way.

  21. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @Chris
Then go be a titans fan u bum

  22. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Are you saying that the fumbling Mariota is better, don’t think so! And if Jameis SUCKS Mariota SUCKS right next to him…

  23. KingBuc17 Says:

In Dubai, going to bed early to get up and watch the game…. Had to re-watch the Raiders game. Noticed that we won that game 24-17 on a fourth down incompletion from Carr to Crab…. penalty. Funny I had to watch it a third time.We really won that game in regulation. So I am not going to quit watching tonight. We should beat the Falcons.
