Aguayo Improving (But Not In Games)

November 13th, 2016
Improving.

Improving.

Bucs fans, some good news to wrap yourself around as you nurse your morning cup of hot java on this sleepy, sunny Sunday morning: Roberto Aguayo is improving.

The man who has become a posterchild for for not drafting a kicker in the second round is getting better, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said last week on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

The catch is you just can’t see the improvement. He’s improved in practices.

“We have [seen progress] in practice,” Koetter said. “Roberto is kicking much more consistently, in practice. He has to carry that over into the games. He missed an extra point two weeks ago against Oakland. We are not faring well right now for the season in field goal percentage.

“I like what Roberto is doing in practice. he definitely is working on it. He is trying to get his routine down. So he is doing the same thing every time regardless of the kick. He is learning to deal with kicking in the wind a little bit more. There are plenty of rookie kickers who have had their ups and downs. I think Roberto is going to get it all straightened out here before it is said and done.”

This is reassuring to Joe because if the Bucs are going to make any kind of run in the second half of the season, the Bucs desperately need to be able to bank on Aguayo’s leg.

It’s hard to believe the Bucs can push for a .500 mark without a reliable kicker.

Yes, great to read, what else would he actually say to us? HOWEVER, he is “learning to deal with the wind”, “I think he will get it straightened out”? More consistent in practice meaning better than 50%, oh great. Look he will be fine today and Buc fans will be on cloud nine again in 10 hours talking about 4-5 and in the playoff hunt. Mark it down, why? Because I know why….

The “period” goes after the word mark. There will be no banking on Aguayo until, maybe, 2017

What a stretch/reach/Hail Mary….kicking only matter in “live action”….like most things in life. He still makes me more nervous than the Chicago Cubs make Joe # 1. πŸ™‚

Joe he this team will not be making a run. 6-7 wins if they get some lucky breaks. I think all we are hoping for is that the team doesn’t free call and end up 3-13 at this point. There will be no run but hopefully Aguayo will figure this out before seasons end.

So basically the kicker is lining up the same way each time for practice kicks now. What encouraging, enlightening news. πŸ™„

Don’t understand why bucs gm does not get talked about for his poor job. Wasted pics on a kicker and free agents have NOT done well. lack of talent falls on him!
