Sophomore Slump Is Real

October 2nd, 2016
Turrible game.

Turrible game.

Jameis Winston is no Josh Freeman.

Time to stop making excuses for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. The sophomore slump is real.

Jameis had (another) horrific day today. Threw two picks to Aqib Talib early and after the second one the Bucs never recovered.

He got overshadowed today by a backup rookie.

Dak Prescott, another rookie, is playing well for Dallas.

Carson Wentz, from freaking North Dakota State, has an undefeated record with the Eagles and lit up the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers.

Yet Jameis, a No. 1 overall pick who guided Florida State to just one loss in two years and a national title and a playoff berth, can’t (yet) lead the Bucs. When the Bucs had the ball late in the first half today, what did Jameis do? Squat.

What did Jameis do most of the second half? Squat.

When was the last time Jameis led the Bucs on a touchdown scoring drive when the team needed to stay in the game or win the game? You can count on one hand with fingers left over.

Yeah, Jameis hates to lose. This just in: so does a drunk in a bar. At some point results are necessary.

Whether Jameis isn’t being coached up or whether he is forcing too much Joe isn’t sure, but Joe is sure of one thing: Jameis isn’t even close to living up to the hype and hope of a No. 1 overall pick.

Hell, Josh Freeman led the Bucs to 10 wins his second season in the NFL. You see the Bucs winning nine more games this season?

    Yes he is.

Typical bush league piss poor crap.
We always have @ least one keystone cops play out of some football bloopers show. I’m the immortal words of Asj the Bucs took a huge S&@&!!

  4. Warrenfb12 Says:

No. this mess is unacceptable. I can’t stomach watching this guy be awful. Why are these teams putting out late round picks looking so much better than Jameis? This team is just bad, as is Jameis.

  5. Brent bull/buc Says:

Koetter way worse than jw today imp.. What about the running game? No time to throw? What about dk not mixing in any short passes? Did you notice any of this? Jw isn’t good enough to chuck the ball around deep with no running game or short passing scheme 3 step drops etc.

  6. Pit Says:

Nope, he is worse then Freeman. I just hope Licht can find us a QB next year.

  7. LakelandBuc Says:

These Delusional Bucs fans will finally see the Licht.

  8. Jim Says:

Congrats, Joe…you woke up at last. Does this mean the Tampa Bay Bubble has finally burst?

  9. Marlow1976 Says:

Out of excuses! Secondary still sucks too!

  10. Bird Says:

Dude. Can we stop calling him americas quarterback too. He s gonna win some games but also turn the ball over so much that we don’t have a chance to win. Terrible game for him. Sucks….. Doug Martin needs to come back soon

  11. Simpleasthat Says:

Seriously joe please answer me one question. Is there a problem with the physical conditioning of this team? I find it hard to believe we are that unlucky to be enduring all these injuries and we have no depth.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Broncos traditionally have one of the best Olines in the league. Of course a backup can do well.

Oops, first lightning just now in Bradenton. Game would have been over by now.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

BTW…everyone remember…I was the lone voice speaking against Jason Licht from the start. Rest of you are bandwagoners 😛

And yet…I still say keep him. His drafts are too good to send him packing. We just need someone that can handle free agency better while he handles the draft.

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

Not once is jason licht blamed here

I understand he owns the keys to 1 buc place and you have to pay the bills, but …

We will all know when the licht ship finally is going to sink…probably 1 more year

And the local media dogs will beg and serve a new master

  15. Chris Says:

Thank you Joe. The throwing into double covered Evans was unacceptable. He had time to throw in the first. Unwilling to check down. Learned his lessons from last year my foot.

  16. Chris Says:

Your drafts are what they are Bonzai until you win. Everyone of these Buc players are losers until they decide not to be.

  17. Jeffbuc Says:

Jason licht has done nothing. He is horrible a 2nd rd kicker not bringing in any wide receivers. Cutting ASJ who is ok to play for jets but not us. We just get rid of problem players while
Problem gms keep getting passes cause of a10% draft success rate. Winston not being one. Winston has a lot of flashy down by 20 stats. But he is the exact same qb as freeman all the same characteristics. Erratic in the first quarter tons of over throws. But when we’re down 20 best qb in league. If I was Thai bad at my job and showed up 3 hours early to study and get better. I would probably do a tebow and change professions. So I say we trade Winston to the Rays for a free round of beers at Raymond James for every fan who has had to witness this. And joe please quit calling him Americas qb when he is not even floridas qb.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    Serbia’s QB!

  19. Ndog Says:

So let me get this straight. We have the slowest receiving corps in the league, cannot run the ball, have a defense that can’t stop anybody and we want to blame the second year qb? This is why this town and these moron wrtiers don’t get to cover a quality cause they want to run ever good player we have after like 20 games. Yes he is being outshine by other qbs but look at their situations before opening your mouth. The Dallas oline and runningback are awesome. The Eagles always have the lead cause their defense is playing lights out. What does our qb have to lean on for support?

  20. rayjay1122 Says:

I am just about done. I unfortunately yet again had some hope that we may be able to turn the corner and become contenders again. What a joke. I even have airline tickets, game tickets and lodging to see this circus show clan of clowns in New Orleans against the Saints on 12/24. I am going to still go to New Orleans but I really regret buying the game tickets right now. I hope a lot changes between now and then but I am not counting on it. We are soft, poorly coached, unlucky, untalented and just plain suck. If this trend continues, I am going to try as hard as I can to finally close the chapter of my life that includes being a Bucs fan. I am soooooo disappointed in this team from top to bottom. 1-4 will be our record at the bye because somehow we defeated Atlanta which still baffles me as to how that happened. I hear people say all the time that it will get a little easier after the bye…..really???? I mean, how many rookie QB’s torch this team. Actually I am mistaken about something. I referred to the Bucs as a team. They are really just a bunch of individuals wearing the same uniforms and collecting paychecks from the same ownership and that does not constitute a team. I am not a troll either as some of you know. I am just a really sick and tired fan that is just about at the end of the rope. Jumping ship is a very depressing option to me because of the void that it would create in my life but for my health and sanity, I may have to eventually.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

I see Jameis leading this team to 7 more wins this season.

    Yes I said Jameis.

  22. LoyalBuc96 Says:

Lol. I love how everyone is freaking out about us losing the past 3 to defenses that are arguably in the top 10. Denver was the Super bowl winner last year! LA is an elite defense. And Arizona made it to the NFC championship game last year! We all knew that before the season ever started that the first 5 games would be brutal. With 3 of the first 5 making it to a championship game. After this game the we will face more winnable games

  23. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

We gonna beat the panthers how sweet will that be

  24. Hck61 Says:

Hey Joe there is not a lot of film on the rookies yet of course they will look good ! Remember the numbers JW had last year ?And stop comparing his college days to what he is now , He’s a young kid in a pro league where everyone is fast! C’mon man !

  25. gotbbucs Says:

    Sad

  26. Chris Says:

Lol 7 more wins? Lose to Carolina, beat by San Fran in San Fran, cause we never, ever win out west. That’s 5 loses 87. Seattle is 6

  27. LakelandBuc Says:

Jason Licht drafts sucks as bad as him. He’s a terrible GM, only the dumb Bucs would hire him as a GM. This is a pathetic franchise, they stinks. They smells awful, they are garbage, trash, human waste.

  28. sho nuff Says:

    …beyond Jameis…we STILL have a s****y defense….always will with sniffles McCoy…

  29. c-spann Says:

I more concern about the def than I am with JW. I thought the def was going to be more aggressive and multiple, it is the same def from last year, maybe worse. JW was moving the ball until the shot themselves in the foot. Simms needs to be sat down, he dances to much, we need a rb to hit the hole.

  30. Chris Says:

Lose at San Diego, that’s 7, loss at Kansas City, 8, lose to Dallas in Dallas, cause we never win there either. Ok 87, that’s at least 9 gimme losses

  31. Chris Says:

    3-13

  32. BucFan20 Says:

Ya you got it right. The same way you blamed Glennon. Who was without a OC, O-line and a defense that gave up games. You expected him to learn it in 18 games. Jameis has had more time. Has an o-line, an OC. Chances to put the team on his back for the win and froze! So Just like Glennon. No excuses.

  33. Tampa Tony Says:

5 wins is being optimistic. So much for a franchise QB

Rookies, 1st year starters they all look better than Jameis. Out coached put played every week.

7 games in a row Jameis has a turnover, the last 3 he has multiple turnovers this team is awful

  34. Chris Says:

But they will Bucfan, because college loyalty is deeper than Buc loyalty. Just like some here like second rd kicker. I miss that, did he do good in coverage today as the safety we needed or as a wr ? Oh yeah, he kicked an extra point and kicked off twice

  35. Njbucsfan Says:

    America’a Turnover Machine

  36. Chris Says:

Oh yeah Glennon is ugly and a giraffe and stepped out of bounds before a first down. But did he crap himself with the game on the line and a option to throw or run? That’s right he’s not colorful enough for the writers and homers in Tampa

  37. Buccoon Says:

  38. Mo_Downs Says:

Disclaimer: The Bucs played another playoff team. The Broncos defense is the reason that a team without a proven QB is projected into the 2nd Round of the 2016 NFL Playoffs.

The Bucs were not equipped to play winning football.
No speed at WR = routes open too late, or not at all.
Broncos defense has experience, team speed and agility.

I seem to recall the Bucs going into 2016 with surplus cash.
So, why are we blaming any QB for a roster lacking SPEED at ALL positions on offense?

  39. Joe Says:

Is there a problem with the physical conditioning of this team?

Maybe babying these guys in training camp backfired?

  40. lightningbuc Says:

The Boston Red Sox are in the playoffs, so Buc87 is ecstatic. Tampa teams are secondary to his beloved New England teams.

  41. Bucnut2 Says:

Welcome to reality Joes. I’ve been saying the same for quite a while

  42. Tampa Tony Says:

Mo downs- he gets the blame for 10 turnovers in 4 games that has resulted in over 40 points for the other teams!!!!

  43. Jimmy T Says:

Jameis has regressed big time. H refuses to throw to the check down. On the 2nd pick his back was all alone but no Jameis forces the ball into double coverage. Getting him to run is like moving the titanic. He wants to win? Yet he doesn’t use his fee anymore? He thinks he is tom Brady . This is all on him

  44. Haha Says:

    Lol

  45. Pittbucfan Says:

Do we play the Browns? Naw. They’d kick our ass too. Losing culture in the room? Ya, coach is onto something. Hell, with the exception of a handfull of years, this teams entire history has been a losing culture.by

  46. rrsrq Says:

Will we get embarrassed on national tv again?

  47. rrsrq Says:

    No Doug Martin is HUMUNGOUS

  48. Desanova Says:

It would be nice to count on something, but I’m struggling to find it. QB play, running game, OL, passing game, QB pressure, run D, pass D, kicking game. Okay, the punting has been great.

Every time Lynch drops back, he has his 10 yard pass wide open.

  49. mike10 Says:

New Bucs policy: credit season ticket holder what they’ve spent on tickets at the bar

  50. BusteisWinston Says:

Busteis has a big arm and can make some pretty nice throws, but so could Byron Leftwich. Poor accuracy and decision making will ensure Busteis is never anything more than an also ran QB. Joe Flacco is his best case scenario, so we’d better hope we can but a defense together.

  51. Pittbucfan Says:

But. All the Famous Jamies naysayers. Mariota is lighting up the sky huh?

  52. Haha Says:

So many butthurt “fans” here today to “see I told you” about Jamie’s. his 20th start in the NFL was a bad one. He was beaten and made a few bad throws. Answer this one, what were your expectations this year? We have a promisingl second year QB, build-a-bear oline, garbage secondary, first year head coach, slow WRs, oft injured RB and all-pro DT. How many second year QBs on a team with this many holes win? Wake up, we have a long way to go before this team is legitimate.

  53. Eric Says:

It’s nice to hear you come back to reality with the rest of us on earth. I never thought you would have admitted that Winston is average to below average Jameis is a bust and we should have gave Glennon a shot and traded the Jameis pick for a boat load of draft picks that would have set our team up for long term success. The coach needs to mput Glennon in if they actually want tom keepm their jobs.
    FSU=Bust central!

  54. Heath B Says:

Please stop with the Americas QB and Pro Bowler nonsense. He never will be Americas QB. And let’s be real Joe the only reason he made the pro bowl was because half the league declined to go.

  55. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    A-MEN Joe!!!!

  56. BigStinky Says:

Winston’s stats are worse than Glennon’s through 18 1/2 games. He threw 28 TD’s and 21 INT’s vs. 29 TD’s and 15 INT’s. Even if you count the whole game with the Rams (which is 19) he has 30 TD’s and 21 INT’s. I guess they both had 4 fumbles and JW had 6 rushing TD’s but their stats are very similar if you ask me. Nobody wanted Glennon so why does everyone want Jameis? Makes no sense to me. 30 TD’s and 23 INT’s in 20 games is NOT good people. MG8 at least knew how to protect the ball better than JW, which is BIG.

  57. Poor Glennon Says:

#3 might have the heart of a lion but he looks like the tin man out there.

  58. Mo_Downs Says:

    My, my.

What does Jameis have in common with Evans, Brate, Jackson and Humphries?
    A) They all run at the same speed.

  59. Dexter Says:

What is wrong with you people we don’t have a running game when we do run we get about two yards sims is not the answer for the Bucs running game you are putting jameis in a lot of bad situation our receivers can’t get open when they do it to late quit blaming jameis he can only do as well as his team does give jameis the broncos receivers they know how to get open Denver quarterback had a lot of time for his receivers to get open we have one good weapon that’s Mike Evans ever body getting hurt I y’all what put any quarterback back there with out a running game see what happens

  60. BucFan20 Says:

    No excuses. Period!

  61. America's Commenter Says:

You’re right, Joes, Winston is not Josh Freeman. He’s worse.
