A slightly animated, very agitated Bucs coach Dirk Koetter discusses punting inside Denver territory in fourth quarter.

Bucs fans freaked when Dirk Koetter decided to punt with the ball inside Denver territory down 20 early in the fourth quarter.

While it sure appeared Koetter was waving the white flag, he, in fact, had thrown in the towel on his impotent offense.

Koetter, in so many words, had zero confidence his offense could make the seven yards needed for a first down, so he chose to punt with the hope his defense could somehow force a turnover.

“I’d been watching our offense the whole game, alright?” Koetter said in his postgame remarks. “I don’t know why anyone expected we would make it on fourth-and-seven if they had been watching our offense. I sure didn’t expect us to.

“I’m playing the percentages. When we don’t make it on third-and-seven and we have got the guy wide open, what makes you think we are going to make it on fourth-and-seven? I mean, we are not going to come back and run the same play again. We were struggling with the ball all night. Why would we give them the ball at midfield?”

Koetter also lashed out at America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, and his two picks early and his dumb move to beg Charles Sims to lateral him the ball which resulted in a fumble.

“That’s just not acceptable,” Koetter said of the three turnovers.

OK, it’s safe to say F this coach. I hated when Lovie was fired and now we know why Dirk wasn’t an NFL head coach before, he clearly doesn’t have the mindset for it. What a piece of garbage. Wow, he instantly becomes more hated than Schiano for me. He quit on his team and threw his QB under the bus when Jameis was out there having to break 14 tackles on every play just to throw the ball away.

  2. ed Says:

This is the reason this coach has lost his team. If he stop hiring his reject buddies to coach and get some coaches, that want to be here. This half of coach need to look in the mirror and quit calling out player’s in the media. If he had won a super bowl, they would respect him. Has anyone asked why he had not been selected as a head coach in the past. This coach has never called out his safety or kicker in the media. Coach the dam team and stop acting like you know what you are doing rookie coach.

  3. You go Joe Says:

JW was not breaking 14 tackles to throw the ball away. He did call the lateral, he did throw 2 interceptions, he’s got 8/9? In week 4 when last year he had 15/16?

JW needs to protect the ball, sims also. Dumb players doing dumb choices leads to the ball being on 30 or less ready for a TD

  4. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

No way Jameis has no excuses for his boneheaded ball hogging ways he needs to get back to his roots give him a run game

  5. Cat Says:

He wasn’t very good in college and will be gone in 2 years.

  6. Bucworld Says:

This is going to get ugly really fast. I do not see leadership here.

  7. James Walker Says:

THE DENVER BRONCOS WON THE SUPERBOWL. What did you freaking expect? 42-0 Bucs win?

  8. Ndog Says:

So you’re saying you don’t want the truth? Listen o wanted Jameis more than anyone but tonight he completely failed and that is not debatable. Yes his receivers are slow, yes he has no running game but both those picks are just horrible throws. This coach has been telling the truth since day one and now you want him to change? That is what players hate , a fraud who will call out his tight end but not his qb. Tell it like it is Jameis sucked TONIGHT!

  9. Rod Munch Says:

You go – It’s an exaggeration for the sake of making a point you dolt. I seriously wonder if most Bucs fans IQ’s break 14.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Through all this analyzing, hang wringing and wretching about I will continue to ask this question.

Who here thought the Bucs would win this game coming into this game?

I thought they’d be beat down one way or another and well they were.

    Next!

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Strider… hahaha, I hope that was said in jest, Jameis is a ball hog because no one was open and he was under constant pressure on every play. If it was said in jest then great comment. If you meant it do me a favor and get ebola, you’re too much of a dolt to live.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Buc1987 – You’re being much to logical and polite, just insult these dolts, there’s no reason to try to talk reason with people whose socks are smarter than they are.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Before the game some even suggested Winston would throw 4 INT’s today and have 2 fumbles.

That’s what some of you thought about Denver coming into coming into this game.

    So did I.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

LOL okay no more typing in the dark. I swear I’m not even drunk. lol

  15. DB55 Says:

All I know is the kid just keeps on coming. I probably would have taken a knee a few times after those hits.

  16. ATLBucsFan Says:

Just like Jameis needs to learn, so too does the head coach. It’s his first gig as a head coach. He needs to learn how to manage the game, manage the team, and he will if given the time.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

ATLBucsFan – Not throwing your players under the bus after you admit you quit on your team, that’s really not something you need to learn not to do, you should know it. I never had an issue with Dirk until today. I wasn’t sold on him being HC but I liked keeping him so it didn’t mean yet another new offense. However this is a huge deal to me, a HC is the one player on the team that can’t do what he did. I’m incredibly disappointed with him, you just don’t do what he did, he in fact did quit on his team and then he threw his players under the bus. It doesn’t get any more unprofessional than that. Again I wasn’t a Dirk basher – until now. I hope this is Joe with his normal inaccurate hyperbole reporting.

  18. You go Joe Says:

Exaggerating like a lil bitch also doesn’t show a high IQ. Being blind and not seeing that our QB has a high interception count also doesn’t show your high IQ. We weren’t supposed to win this but it was a close game at first and our defense held us Ito the game. Then the offense never showed up

  19. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    The sky is falling!

  20. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The offense has showed up for weeks!!!!!

….so what you talking bout Willis!?!?!?!

  21. Ndog Says:

What is this crap you keep saying about Koetter quitting on his team? His job is to make a decision and if think your team is best served by punting and playing defense how is that quitting on your team?

  22. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Rod Munch……go read an NFL coaches guide for dummies….then maybe you’ll learn something

  23. Guzzie Says:

The Bucs will win their next 6 games guaranteed they needed to get beat down and realize how much they need to work I’ll be back next week after we destroy the panthers

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

Guzzie, Give me some of that good stuff you’re smoking man. Now, How come a lot of teams double down on Defense..like the Broncos and start a 7th rd draft pick. And we select the no 1 drafted QB and a 2nd rd kicker instead of shoring up our D line? A lot of people on this website laughed at me when I said we should have taken Aaron Donald over Jameis. I don’t here’em laughin now. But then again Jameis wins championships right? In the NFl? DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Just ask the Denver Broncos.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Okay looks like everyone is starting to turn on Koetter. I haven’t liked what I’ve seen so for from a coaching position. Im gonna give him a little more time. Cant be easy with 11 injured starters. But if he is out in 1-2 years, and we bring in our 5th HC since Gruden they better bring in a top-notch HC. We’re going no where with these coordinators and college coaches and these players are having to learn their different, crappy schemes every 2 years. I would say throw a GIGANTIC pile of money at Gruden and bring him back. That would get myself and I’m assuming many others very hyped

  26. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The “CURSE OF CHUCKY” continues to haunt this franchise

  27. Ndog Says:

Yeah bring Gruden back so he can pass on Adrain Peterson, and Aaron Rodgers type players in the draft for Jeff Garcia, and Charlie Garner. Man you people are idiots.

  28. LargoBuc Says:

Koetter is a rookie NFL HC. We all knew there would be things he would struggle with, esp the first quarter of the season. As for him calling out/throwing under the bus, Koetter has always been like that. It’s not do cute now that the losses are mounting is it?

  29. Rod Munch Says:

SOEbuc – I really had no opinion on the guy until today, but he quit on his team then came out and blamed his players – after he quit on them. This is an elite defense, period – this is 2002 Bucs level, maybe not that good but pretty close, this is what they do. For a coach to quit on his team after they did move the ball on that drive, then to blame the players postgame, it’s pretty ridiculous. I honestly had zero issue with the guy until today. I never thought they should have got rid of Lovie unless it was the only way to keep Dirk since I didn’t want Winston having to learn another offense, but man, talk about totally not getting it – blaming your players after quitting on them, it’s pretty disgraceful. As I said hopefully it’s Joe’s terrible hyperbolic writing at work, or perhaps Dirk is so brilliant he’s doing this to take pressure off Winston by making the story all about himself before a MNF game. But I don’t think that’s what happening, and I think this is showing why he was this old and never got a HC job in the NFL despite being a great coordinator.

  30. BigStinky Says:

I was wondering why we punted on 4th and 6 on their side of the field but he makes sense. Jameis had just missed a wide open player (again) which he would have gotten a first down. He was losing faith in Winston in the game and I don’t blame him. The game was over at that point since we couldn’t move the ball. Don’t expect to beat the Panthers either next week. The bye can’t get here soon enough. Wonder if we can even beat the 49er’s?

  31. EA Says:

I heard Miko isn’t happy with the QB play right now.

  32. EA Says:

I agree with coach criticizing the players, even if is in front of the media.
Many didn’t agree with Lovies soft approach and maybe that played into the decision to get him fired.

We’ll see if jameis will take it to heart and perform better, maybe that’s Koetters way of changing the culture, whatever it takes to win some damn games, this fan base is tired of losing.

  33. mike Says:

    Miko for new head coach

  34. Guzzie Says:

Just wait Guzzie has spoken we will be 7-3, the stars are finally aligning, no one thought the Rams would be 3-1 after their opening game, no Newton next week, Dougie is back after the bye, Coach K will get this ship right, it’s not his fault we are accustomed to losing, trust me we will become a 2nd half team to watch

  35. Pit Says:

Rod is actually safe to say F this QB not the coach. The coach just said as it is.Like it or not but the truth hurts.

  36. Chris Says:

I’m with Koetter. Hold your players accountable. These are grown men making millions of dollars and coaches take the fall for irresponsible players bringing down the team but stay Bc they’re talented.

There may be a lot more going on. But these players have to execute. Jameis will throw balls to defenders but it’s all on the coaches? Come on buc fans.

  37. Dirk Disco Says:

We just played the best defense in the NFL. Relax everyone.

  38. briandorry55 Says:

“Bucs fans freaked”? Please. That game was O.V.E.R. He could’ve told the refs during the rain delay “no thanks, we’ll just go home” and I wouldn’t have given a damn.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah Pit, rookie of the year, 3rd player every to throw for 4000 yards as a rookie, on pace to throw 4400 yards and 36 TDs, but doesn’t know how to play in the NFL. LOL!

It’s amazing you dolts remember to breathe, although it would be for the best if you didn’t.

  40. BucsFan90 Says:

Then stop calling slow developing plays and quit wasting 2nd round picks on kickers and situational defenders. I have no confidence in a head coach who refuses to admit he was the biggest reason his team lost last week, has no problem throwing his best players under the bus and cutting his most talented TE, and who quits on his team with 7 minutes left on home turf.
