He’s Clutch!
October 15th, 2016Angry with Bucs kicker Roberto Aguayo? Bitter because the team traded up into the second round to draft a kicker? Well, NFL fans think you are too harsh. Way too harsh.
It seems Aguayo, who succeeds 50 percent of the time in getting a football between the uprights, was honored by fans for being the “Castrol Edge Clutch Performer of the Week.” Buccaneers.com has the details.
The rookie drilled a 38-yarder on the final play of the game as the Bucs topped the defending conference champions, 17-14, on the road.
Aguayo was the only special teams player nominated for the award. Other nominees included New England quarterback Tom Brady, Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck, Atlanta running back Tevin Coleman and Detroit cornerback Darius Slay.
Of course, nowhere in that release is there any mention that if Aguayo would have made one of his other two previous attempts in that game, then he wouldn’t have needed the last second answered prayer.

That headline is great. I needed a good laugh to start my day!

Sure enough, BE we needed that. That may prove out to be a good pick but not at the major cost for it.

If he’s clutch, Hillary’s honest.
October 15th, 2016 at 8:02 am
Yeah, he’s clutch alright. Like a burned-out clutch that needs replacing.

Clutch is clutch.
A golfer can double bogey 17 and then make a winning 20 ft putt on 18
A baseball player can make errors….strike out 4 times then get a clutch game winning hit in the 9th
A basketball player can miss two free throws……then come back to hit a winning 3 pointer at the buzzer.
The same goes with a kickier…it is what it is….Clutch is clutch!!!

So he’s like the Josh Freeman of clutch. Play like dog feces for the first 55 minutes of the game and put your team in need of a come from behind victory.
October 15th, 2016 at 8:51 am
He did make the game-winning kick, so I give him credit and I appreciate that.
But it could’ve also been the Law of Averages catching up to him. I mean, he was going to make another kick at some point.
Time will tell.

4 turnovers to none and you win on a game ending FG. 90% of the teams in the NFL would have put this game out of reach before the beginning of the 4th quarter. SMH

I think Joe’s ability to forecast kickers is much like his ability to forecast QBs (Manziel)….its not very good.
I think Aguayo will be a fine kicker regardless what the antsy over the top and ridiculous Tampa media will tell you.
Keep on slanting Joe….you doing great. I’m willing to bet your articles were wide left and right too during your rookie season. Oh how the mighty have forgotten the difficult times of being in a new place and new league with 100 times the pressure.
Bottom line: Give the kid some time..
October 15th, 2016 at 9:59 am
Tampabaybucfan makes some relevant points putting the kicking game but, Joe just does not grasp any of this. He writes as being hell bent on destruction. And my out of order suggestion remains, test a new holder for several days in practice, it might help. OK Joe, you being the expert, tell me the whys of how that idea barfs.
October 15th, 2016 at 10:30 am
Try out a new place kicker. It’s a great idea but who?
October 15th, 2016 at 10:32 am
Whoops: BIG mistake. I meant holder. But who can do this and be solid like Dave Moore back in the day?
October 15th, 2016 at 11:01 am
Even if he hit every single attempt I’d still take d line or a wide out. I would have even been on with a running back in the draft at his spot over a guy who’s only needed for less than 10 snaps a game. Even Noah Spence seems like a waste because he can’t get on the field because he’s too light in the pants. 50% is not clutch
October 15th, 2016 at 12:19 pm
We truly live in a truth are lies and lies are truth kind of a world now…..welcome to 2016 folks where you can make less than 50% of your kicks and be considered “clutch”
Aguayo for MVP anybody???
And of course with all the help we need at WR, next year we’ll get a RB when we all ready have 8 of em.
I’m starting my early lobbying for Myles Garrett from Texas A&M. Boy is a beast

buccfan, you are correct. He shanks 2-3 field goals a game and he’s clutch. Jeeesus you people have low standards. I guess that’s why we embrace so many mediocre players in Tampa
October 15th, 2016 at 7:57 pm
Exactly right Chris.
October 16th, 2016 at 1:49 am
Hold on Chris and Old Time Buc, the fans around the world voted him clutch. Read the comments and you will see where the Tampa Bay fans stand with the kid. I’m not giving him the real clutch award for hitting an easy field goal but missing 2 other easy Fgs, however, he nailed the game-winner and that deserves a stay of execution.

Aguayo winning the clutch award. This is like the dude who shoves an old lady into the street in front of an oncoming bus, then pulls her back just in time and gets credited with being a hero. Aguayo would have been the reason they lost, missing not one, but THREE field goal attempts had he missed. So technically true, he did it in the clutch…and I hope it helps him fix his little “problem.” Thanks to JoeBucsFan for at least putting a decent picture up of our besieged kicker…the one at TBT is embarrassing. More importantly, thanks to JoeBucsFan for not writing articles about how the GM will get fired over Aguayo…like some fools have written in paid efforts. Aguayo may or may not get it…due to nerves (fixable maybe) or the “yips” (not fixable, not coachable). But that should inspire the Bucs to ensure they always lead by nine in the 4th quarter and NEVER count on an extra point to win…until this is fixed.

Fix your head Roberto!

No one really knows if he would’ve needed to make a game winner or not had he made the last two. Obviously it’s a bummer he missed them but be happy he won the game for us. I know everyone heard gruden on tv say that janikowski was the same way his first year. Give him time and he will get better.
