Dirk Koetter Scouts Derek Carr
October 29th, 2016Speaking on SiriusXM NFL radio this week, Dirk Koetter admitted he knew little about Derek Carr before studying him in advance of Sunday’s Raiders-Bucs game.
In fact, Koetter called him “David.”
When Carr was available in the 2014 NFL Draft (when the Bucs decided Josh McCown was the guy to lead them to the Super Bowl) Koetter was working for the Falcons. Of course, Atlanta had little need for a QB, and it seems Koetter wasn’t asked to scout one.
So after his fresh look at Carr, Koetter said he was impressed. Joe could hear the admiration in his voice.
“Quick release, hard to sack,” Koetter described.
That’s a very tough combination for a Bucs front four that’s not known for aggravating QBs.
This week, Joe watched a breakdown of the Raiders’ offensive line by former Oakland star Lincoln Kennedy, who explained the relative weakness of their O-line is their interior. A big day by Gerald McCoy likely will be needed.
But those quick drops and releases are tough duty for anyone. Joe wonders if the Raiders are sold on the Bucs’ ability to stop slant passes, a brutal challenge for them last season.

You. Guys crack me up!
There’s a reason derek carr is so highly rated…
His quick release makes it hard for teams to size him up..
The bucs pass rush hasn’t been great this year either
I predict zero sacks….no interceptions…
And we lose once again at home by 10 points…..
The Raiders are good this year (wow I can’t believe I said the Raiders are good!!!)
…….and unless the defense steps up…..the bucs don’t stand a chance at winning this game.

You are SOOO wrong TheBucsAnthem. The Raiders have not beaten a team with a winning record. Their DL is Putrid, their Secondary is weak. We will run on them at will and Mike Evans will have a HUGE day. They will score but we will outscore them.

Haha you guys crack me up look at the defenses the raiders have faced and the next Six Games are gd defense also oh my bad not this week but the five after we will smoke the buccaneers like we was smoking a Dutch I’m more worried bout home games the buccaneers suck and I mean they are as bad as the raiders use to be Lmao

I think it will be high scoring and the Raiders will come out on top. We will make less mistakes and our defense will allow a lot of yards but will get a turnover or two.

Play ton of zone vs quick release qb. This will allow DL hopefully to reach qb if no one open. Ocassional LB blitzes if needed. The best way to stop Raiders, is keep them off the field. Long drives running the ball. No turnovers. Also, hey Joe, where can we get some Jason Litcht Ale in Tampa?

Slant killer; spread your lbs out into the obvious slant lanes when receivers and TEs are in the slot especially when there’s an empty backfield and keep the dbs on the INSIDE shoulder plain and simple! That’s what caused an interception against the G Men last year because L David was in the lane at the snap and it caused Eli to throw slightly behind Mr Primadonna and it resulted in a pick to Verner. I’d rather have an eight yard out pushed out of bounds than a 8 yard slant turned into a 20-30 yac.

All these hits on frenchy should be penalties. The refs are letting them kill our qb
