Awkward Moment On Koetter’s Radio Show
October 4th, 2016One of the most interesting parings of this Buccaneers season is not on the field.
It’s on the Buccaneers Radio Network. Dirk Koetter’s weekly Total Access show is hosted by T.J. Rives, who is known for his roundabout talking style, which is routinely made fun of by numerous hosts on WDAE-AM 620.
Koetter, of course, is known for his direct approach and no-nonsense style.
At times, the marriage has produced can’t-miss awkward moments, including in postgame interviews. Yesterday, though, featured a classic Joe felt compelled to type.
T.J. Rives: So at the point the game is 7-7 as we move through the first half. And unfortunately, turnovers would be the story of the second quarter. Again, they get an interception on an Aqib Talib play. You’ve again had the benefit of looking at the second interception [on film].
Dirk Koetter: It got intercepted.
Rives: Pure and simple on that one.
Koetter: (Very feint chuckle)
Rives: Yeah, ok.
Later, Koetter said Aqib Talib made a nice play undercutting the throw to Mike Evans. If you’re seeking more detail on that pick, check out what Talib and friends had to say about it here.

I can only take T.J. Rives in small doses especially when he’s sitting down with any coach.
The Ali Marpet & Donovan Smith show is radio gold!

The second pick was thrown late. If it was delivered on time it’s a first down. I think Jameis knew it was late to because he tried to unload a bullet through Talib. A lot of DBs in the league probably don’t hold on to that one.

T.J is terrible he describes to the guest the play and than ask them tell them what happen on that play.. uh you just answered your own question.
Cant listen to him at all, tune him off ..

Lost a lot of respect for Coach Koetter Sunday. He quit on his team. He hit the nail on the head when he said he is the one that has to fix the culture. Not the way to fix it, coach. I’m going to try to not quit on you and start thinking about the draft and a new head coach that doesn’t quit on his team and the fans.

TJ can’t go 2 minutes without saying “you’ve had 24 hours to look at the film” or something to that effect.

Things do look bleak at the moment. I would like to be hopeful that we can beat the Stinking Panthers on MNF and not get embarrassed. Naturally you want to win every game but the divisional ones are the critical ones. Beating the Stinking Panthers would be a bigger help than beating Denver would have been. However, since we are depleted due to injuries and really do not have much chance against Carolina even though IF we could pull off the upset and go into the bye 2-3 with a 2-0 divisional record, we would not be in too bad of shape. 1-4 would be pretty dismal but that is where we are headed if the Bucs do not play much better as a team and if Koetter does not do a much better job of coaching.

This site and a lot of yaps on here posted 1-5 before the regular season started. 1-4 (sounds like the I-4 corridor :-)) right now where we should be 2-2. We’ve had the usual Buc Luck: rough first 5 games schedule and injuries. Wonder who or what is keeping the Broncos charmed? They have no injuries so far. Post-SB bug is biting the Panthers, but not Denver. SMH. Wonder why? GO BUCS!!

Aqib Talib is still a hot-headed lowlife. Glad he’s gone. How come he left Belicheat?

Typos. I meant 1-3 and 1-4 in the earlier comment.

is his show a comedy? I listened to him with Kwan Alexander and Rives describes a play in excruciatingly painful detail and all KA did was grunt, “uh huh, uh huh.” These shows are not informative, only positive comments or questions are mentioned, making this a waste of time. Unless you’re listening for humor value, these shows have zero value.

…But as D-Rome said above, the Smith-Marpet show is gold! I always get a good laugh with them!

I wonder if he talks like that to everyone? I can imagine him coming home to his wife, “Hellooo wife, good to seeee youuu! How was your daaaay? Can you take us through what was going on in your mind, as you sat through traffic on Dale Mabry…”

Agree w just about everyone except cometowin…
Koetter is what this team has needed and I’ve gained a lot of respect for him. I’m sick of sugar coated interviews on these Bucs-sponsored shows, where’s it gotten us the past 10 years.
Call it like it is, and the results you expect will happen, it has to.. it starts w accountability.

Buc ball= save all the timeouts for no reason no matter what even while trailing with 40 sec left in the game, throw an int two minutes in the game to set the opposing team up in the redzone, then next drive have Sims run into Winston to fumble the ball back, then let the 3rd string QB throw a 40 yard bomb to wherever Grimes or Conte are on the field and be down double digits before the end of the 1st quarter, watch as Martin does nothing but get injured because its not a contract year, watch ever other player on this team leave with an injury too, watch mccoy pretend he sacks qbs, run for 1 yard with Sims, then force the ball to Evans no matter what, watch Vjack do virtually nothing all game, score a few points in garbage time and have our 2nd round kicker come in to miss the kick, lose 40-7, rinse and repeat next game
