The Bridgewater Bonus
September 2nd, 2016Did a path to the playoffs open for the Bucs when Teddy Bridgewater went down with a season-ending knee injury?
That seems to be the reasoning from Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyre, the founder and head honcho over at TheBigLead.com. McIntyre is bullish on the Bucs this year but wasn’t quite sold on Tampa Bay as a playoff team.
McIntyre predicted a Vikings return to the playoffs but no longer without Bridgewater.
So who is likely to replace the Vikings in the playoffs? I’ve got the Redskins and Packers winning their respective divisions and the Cardinals and Seahawks are headed back to the playoffs. The safe pick is Carolina in the NFC South (though I think a significant regression is coming). That leaves one Wild Card spot.
Put me down for Tampa Bay, and here’s why:
McIntyre offered well thought out reasoning for the Bucs to be a wild card team.
Joe didn’t consider this when Bridgewater got injured. It could add up. Of course, it sure would help if the Bucs could somehow win their first two road games of the season. No easy task when one is a division game (Atlanta) and the other is a playoff team from last season (Arizona).

Can we please let the fellas get off to a good start in their first three games before you talk about printing playoff tickets? Please?

You know why the Bucs are a dark horse pick by a few people almost every single offseason? Because they always suck, that’s why. People always figure this must be the year they don’t suck any longer. And they’re always wrong. I guess hope springs eternal with football fans. Not sure how else to explain it.

There’s also a great story on nfl.com on this too. Several former players and news head agree with mcntyre.

First let me say I hope teddy makes a fast recovery I would want that to happen to anyone I know also I would count out them out just yet there defense was pretty good there d line is one of the NFL but I got to agree no QB this team can lose some games as for the Bucs personally I think if the defense plays lights out the first game get to Marty ice then I’ll might say oh yea we are making the playoffs big time I’m going to the Georgia dome I’m gotta feeling we are going to win that game

Very tough to imagine Buccaneers winning either of the first two games. Still Buccaneers should improve as the season progresses. Don’t be discouraged. Better days ahead.

With a healthy bridgewater, NFC West and NFC North were almost assured of the 2 wildcard spots. Minnesota may still be better than any team in the NFC East and still deserves the benefit of the doubt over any likely 2nd place finisher in the South
