Rookie Of The Year?

September 3rd, 2016
Bold talk from Super Bowl-winning coach.

Bold prediction from Super Bowl-winning coach.

Last year the Bucs should have had an offensive Rookie of the Year.

This year, the Bucs will have a defensive Rookie of the Year.

That’s the suggestion from Super Bowl-winning coach Brian Billick. The former leader of the Crows contributed to an article on NFL.com in which various analysts gave predictions for the season.

Billick is so high on Bucs corner Vernon Hargreaves, he believes Hargreaves will collect postseason honors.

Jalen Ramsey and Eli Apple were both drafted before him, but I had Vernon Hargreaves as my best-rated cornerback prospect in this class, and he landed in a phenomenal system that will allow him to make plays on the ball.

This may not be such an outrageous statement. Remember, if Hargreaves starts, who is the other Bucs corner? That would be Brent Grimes.

Now what quarterback or offensive coordinator would go after a four-time Pro Bowler like Grimes instead of a rookie? Only quarterbacks who want to be benched and offensive coordinators who are looking for a career change, that’s who.

So if Hargreaves does indeed start, he’s going to get tested. And if he is worthy of the tests, he will rack up numbers and voters look at numbers.

Also, remember who Billick is getting some of his intel from on Hargreaves. That would be his brother-in-law, Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

Browns went after grimes over and over again

What no LUV for Noah Spence?

    Good point

    very true,Bird
If Cleveland is any indication,Grimes may be tested quite a bit.He will make some plays, but I wonder how he will do against the bigger, more physical receivers. Gordon gave Grimes a little push, but I didn’t think it was enough for
him to go flying.Maybe he was taking a dive,to get the PI call? I look for him to be more physical or he may give way to a bigger or more physical corner in third and long or in the red zone.
Have to believe Cleveland thought it was more dangerous to go at VH3 than
    Grimes.

  5. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Not buying that Joe. If coaches look at any of the preseason film, Grimes is definitely the guy they will try to go after. He got burned badly a few times.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Its a good problem to have…..not wanting to throw at either CB……but I agree that Grimes will likely be thrown at more than VH3……

And yes….Billick is related to Smith so that gives him some extra intel……but also some bias.

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

Lol VH3 defended players that are all cut all preseason and now offensive coord are scared to throw toward VH3?…HEHE

Jason Licht is Forrest Gump with man boobs

  8. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Like the Oline last year, this is a group that could go from being a weak unit to a strength of the Bucs. Love it!!

Not often do I but I’m wit fake kobe on this one. Much like Marcus Peter’s VH3 will be tested often as result he will have his fair share of ints(we all know that’s the sexy stat that determines this thing)and in my opinion he will edge out SPAWN for rookie of the year. As far Grimes is concerned y’all silly wit the whole too small BS, dude been effectively handling his own in the league how long. Don’t think he’s carved out career by saying “coach put me on the short one will ya”.

Heh-heh-heh, “Baltimore Crows” is the same thing (slight difference according to bird experts) as “Baltimore Ravens.” Billick has always had positive things to say about the Bucs, even when they were the Yucks/Sucks. It will be fun to watch how the D develops this season. Still wish we had more D-Line depth. Oh well….Go Tampa Bay!!

  11. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

How cool would it be to have both Noah Spence and VH3 battling for DROY?? Not a stretch to think such a thing either. I’m pretty confident the former all SEC corner from the swamp will get his share of pics this year. I think teams will try and test the 32 yr old corner on the other side. But there will be times were teams test VH3 as well. Can’t wait to see this defense swarm around and make plays this year. This team is only gonna go far as the defense takes them. Cause we all know the offense will hold there own.

  12. Jbeachbuc Says:

The Spence run for honors will be short lived when teams start running right at him…. He will come off the field, he will learn and improve with time.
I like VH3 to be well rounded from day one.

  13. Kobe Faker Says:

Once Offensive linemen get their paws on Spence, He is done. 1 trick pony that will be exposed. Need to get alot stronger. Kidd is small!!!

    4 meaningless sacks during mopup.

Getting a franchise edge rusher is tougher to find than a franchise QB

Yes that fvkin tough. Only Von Miller and Khalil Mack, and thats it. cant find them and maybe 1 in 10 yeaars but will be top 3 picks not 30th player chosen.

Forrest Gump Licht wasted a pick with Noah Spence because of the Vonn Miller hype in the superbowl

Man props to you guys!!! I participate in only two blogs or comment sections…here and on a political blog.

On the political blog people frequently fail and give the trolls what they seek..attention.

But there is an obvious moron trying to pollute our comments, and I thought about responding to this person, but then I noticed you guys have totally ignored him. Bravo!!!
