Role Reversal For Mike Evans
September 15th, 2016Joe talked to Mike Evans yesterday about what appears to be a new element to his game.
That would be the gamesmanship it takes to draw a penalty against an angry and undisciplined defensive player.
In past years, Evans was the hothead receiver who got flagged after opponents got too deep under his skin.
Sunday in Atlanta, it was Evans jawing after a batted down Jameis Winston pass with Falcons veteran cornerback Robert Alford. Officials came over to calmly separate the players. Evans and Alford kept up their passionate chat, but then Alford put an index finger in Evans’ face mask and drew a flag.
JoeBucsFan.com: You sort of drew a personal foul on a guy, versus that might have been the other way around last year. Did that give you a little bit of satisfaction.
Mike Evans: It absolutely did. It kept the drive alive and we ended up scoring on that. So that was big time.
So you’re going to try and draw them now? Joe joked.
“No. I ain’t going to try and do nothing. I’m just playing my game,” said a smiling Evans.
Evans’ maturity was on display in the opening preseason game and hasn’t let up.
The 23-year-old offered one explanation. “I just got married, so that’s making me more mature.”

Whatever. I want him to play with passion and I don’t mind him occasionally trying to let an official know that he was held. Both this and his drops last year have been blown out of proportion by the Joes. I for one am extremely happy that he was able to shut up all the doubters last week. He is going to have a monster year. Can’t remember the poster that does nothing but bash Evans but he has been very quiet the last few days.

When Evans is rolling and is on top of his game his skill-set looks like that of T. O.

You want to talk about a player getting his act together and upping his game, it’s this guy. This is a dude I can get behind and I’m enjoying watching him grow

If Evans stays healthy – he will likely be pushing 1400 yards or more and double digit TDs this year.

@JOE
Great story and we are indepted to Mrs. Evans.
But what has happened to the Buc’s most famous wife? I thought Miko would be over the top after Brent and the guys whipped his old team. No tweets or FB posts rubbing it in?

You are so correct. We have a very young team. There is passionate leadership on both sides of the ball. I really like Coach Kotter. Jason has proven to me that he has a eye for talent.

This year is going to be so much fun.

This should be a lesson learned for Buc fans…..although not completely over yet there needs to be some patience shown for younger players….Evans & ASJ…..also some for our draft picks…..Sims comes to mind.
I can’t blame anyone for wanting instant perfection but it just doesn’t happen that way.

He’s BETTER than Terrell Owens bc he’s QUIET and LAID-BACK!
I hope gets more TD’s than ODB this year!
17 for Mike! Calling it!

Well said, and for anyone interested, The Bucs made ASJ available on Buccaneer access and the recording is on Buccaneers .com. I think this is a
good PR move and allows fans to see the other side of ASJ ,besides the one he is trying to overcome. ASJ is lucky to have a coach and QB who trust him enough to go to him at critical times.
