Martin “Encouraged” With Injury
September 19th, 2016When Doug Martin left yesterday’s game dragging his right leg with a bum hamstring, in all honesty, it was the end of the rope for the Bucs.
Trailing with virtually no running game (Charles Sims is much more of a pass-catcher than a runner), Arizona knew the Bucs would throw early and often. The game became one-dimensional, the worst pickle for an offensive coach.
Hamstrings are nasty things and Joe believed at that moment Martin would be out for Sunday’s home opener against the Rams — or more.
That may not be so.
While it is still very early and more will be known Wednesday when Martin is scheduled to practice, longtime Bucs beat man Woody Cummings believes there is a chance Martin could suit up for the Rams based on a private one-on-one with Martin after the game.
Cummings explained to dangerous Dan Lucas early this morning on Bucs Bonus, seen on WFLA-TV Channel 8 (a show Joe is convinced only security guards, Publix stock clerks, divorcees, sportswriters and diehard drunkards stay up to watch).
“You know, I was a little surprised,” Cummings said. “I think he is a little more encouraged than a lot of people might be. He said it was just a slight tweak. He said he had to come out. It wasn’t a precautionary thing. He said he couldn’t go any more.
“I got the sense from him that he feels that there is a possibility he could be ready to go next week if they get the right treatment to him. So he said only a slight tweak and that is good news. That’s not as bad as it could be. We have seen hamstring injuries derail guys for a long time. They can feel good. They can feel like they are alright. The next thing you know it is not as strong as it seems.
“It is just one of those things on the surface It’s very hard to tell how good is it? On the surface it may feel like you are fine. You go out there and you push it – you will never really push it as hard as you will in a game. You go out there and try to practice and try to jump, do all the things you want to do in terms of things that hamstrings are required for and the next thing you know, it is not as strong as you think it is. And then you hurt it worse and you are out even longer.
Of course, this may all be wishful thinking on Martin’s part. Doctors will have the final say, and Joe is sure Bucs coach Dirk Koetter will weigh in.
We don’t know if Koetter is of a similar mind as Lovie Smith was about hamstrings. Lovie would rather lose a player for, say, two games with a hamstring rather than risk losing the player for six weeks or more by not allowing it to heal fully or re-injuring it.
A much clearer view on Martin’s status for the Rams will come no later than Friday’s injury report.

We really should have franchise tagged him or let him go. He was great for us last year, but he still has an injury history. I hope he is back for the Rams nonetheless.

Lol! Back next week. Now way Jose! This is a 4-6 week injury. Mark the tape. Bucs should have forfeited the game and never played. Would have been much better off. This one game has ruined our season due to injuries. Also, the team will have no confidence after this. They need to consider starting Glennon vs. the Broncos. Can’t risk the franchise over a meaningless game and season. JW could be permanently injured against a team of men like the Broncos. At least we had one week of hope. That was fun! Mark the tape folks, the Rams beat the Bucs and the season is completely in the toilet.

Jeff? Are you really a BUC fan? Wow! Mr. doomsday.

@Jeff
Wow dude! Some of you guys are the very definition of the word QUITTER!!!!
Go ahead and give up loser. Some of us want to see this through.
Bonzai has been a reasonable voice. He has pointed out that we face the two teams from the Super Bowl..a team that reached the NFC championship..3 games on the road…but then we hit the bye week and a manageable schedule after that.
This is one of those rare times when I agree with Lovie. I’d go very carefully with Doug and have him ready after the bye. Beating Carolina on the road and Denver at home is going to be a tall order…we’d need to be perfect..we should be able to beat LA without Doug.
Plus I’m not sure Peyton Barber cannot run the ball. Don’t know about his blocking and receiving but those are not weaknesses on this team.

F#%k outta here wit dat $h*t Jeff. U sound like a idiot to be honest. U deserve to have your Bucs card pulled if u even have one to begin with.

IT’S FREAKING GAME!! WE’RE 1-1 AND STILL IN 1ST PLACE!! we woke up a sleeping giant yesterday that was pisses off and wasn’t about to go 0-2 after being one game away from the super Bowl last year and having the second best record in the league!!! U act like we got pummeled by the Browns. We weren’t gonna go undefeated anyways. Time to gey back on track by winning our Ho opener this week against the Rams.

hamstrings linger couple that we Doug’s long and extensive injury history this will go on all year long. This should NOT be a surprise to anyone. Even the biggest 22 fan can not deny his injury history… At least they gave him majority of the money in first 2 years so when this drags out it will not be devastating. To many key bucs have long and extensive injury historys coupled with the fact VJAX is done Licht has a LOT Of work to do.
September 19th, 2016 at 11:19 am
Jeff most of us on here will never give up. We are the most hardcore Bucs fans on the web.
Anyway, we all know that hamstrings can linger. It’s best not to push it, or risk your career.

You got no balls u punk b****!!
September 19th, 2016 at 11:36 am
Dahm Jeff..Even I’m not as pessimistic as you!! I say we got a real good shot at Whipping the Rams.

I knew Martin was injured as soon as he got up from his last play before the announcer said anything later. The Bucs had a stranglehold on the bad side of Murphy’s law from the onset.

We’ll have to see what happens with Doug. I prefer him to sit at least against LA.That guy that we picked up that had history with Koeeter and Mike Smith in Atlanta didn’t look terrible on maybe the 2 handoffs he got

Tmax
I agree hammies are bad and Doug’s history is not promising. But I haven’t given up hope yet.
We can rest him for the entire month if we wish. If he can’t play against LA then I don’t bother against Denver and Carolina on the road…after that we hit the bye and he will have enjoyed more than a month’s rest on the hammy.
We can win the games in that second 11 after the bye. I still believe we make a playoff run and then put all of our marbles on the line in the final game of the season at the RayJay against the Carolina Panthers.
When you think about it that’s how it should be…The Stinkin’ Panthers are king of the hill until we knock them off…if we make a solid run in the final 11 games I think that contest against the Panthers will be yyyyuuuuggge…RayJay will be jammed!
LMAO…yeah I know I just posted a lot of ifs!

Shorts looked like he pulled his hammy to. Any update or concern about short joe?

It makes me laugh that these trainers allow these million dollar men not properly stretch, warm up and hydrate ………… Ever watch some of these guys pre game , well I will just put it this way if they were boxers they would get knocked out allot !! In Arizona two hammys not by chance ……….. Oh they have history, well exactly the point !!!
