Embrace The Roller Coaster

roller-coaster

Jump aboard the Jameis roller coaster.

During the opening game at Atlanta, the NFL world stood tall and saluted the way America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, carved up the Dixie Chicks.

Last week at Arizona, Jameis looked more like leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman after just waking from a slumber. Up one week; down another. Bucs fans were the same way: riding high then looking to do shots of Clorox the next.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com is starting to get the idea that Bucs fans better get used to this roller coaster, and hop on for the ride.

Jameis Winston also needs to bounce back from a lost Week 2 performance. After a mature effort in Week 1, Winston regressed to a rookie-year tendency: When he breaks bad, it’s really bad.

If early 2016 is an indication of how Jameis is going to be for the next few years, not only will Bucs fans need to refill their blood pressure meds, but they may want to find a trusty psychologist for therapy.

Joe will be just fine with a good consistent quarterback — as opposed to Dan Marino one week and Joey Harrington the next.

  1. Tampa Tony Says:

Stuff like this is why he’s not a “franchise” type QB, yet.

  2. That Guy Says:

I wonder if that inconsistency is the reason the American people say the Bucs’ QB is the most disliked starter in the NFL or if it’s some other reason.

  3. BROCKTACULAR Says:

GUY… Where’d you hear that from?

  4. d-roca Says:

    Brock
Theres a poll out on nfl or espn. N its because of the allegations not his 4 int games. Go bucs lets hope for the good roller ride this weekend

That Guy … If you’re going to make statements like “the American people say the Bucs’ QB is the most disliked starter in the NFL” at least have the cajones to list your source(s). That’s a pretty broad brush you’re using.

  6. That Guy Says:

ESPN reported on Wednesday that an E-Poll Marketing Research survey of 1,100 people whose demographics reflect those of the general population showed Kaepernick was “disliked a lot” by 29 percent of the respondents. He was followed in the disliked-a-lot category by Winston at 22 percent, Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh at 21 percent, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at 13 percent and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at 10 percent.

I don’t dispute the poll but when you conduct a poll that “reflects people whose demographics reflect those of the general population” you skew the results to people who are really somewhat irrelevant because they are not necessarily football fans.
The opinions are likely based on what they have heard from news coverage about Winston’s off-field college behavior and have nothing to do with his NFL QB skills.

  8. Bird Says:

Jameis is gonna be Jameis. He is gonna have games where he throws multiple picks that are costly. Just needs to have those few, far and between

  9. NashvilleBuc Says:

Brett Farve was 8-14 for 73 yards and zero touchdowns and one interception in his second game of his second year. He didn’t play the whole game. It was a blowout loss. To Tampa Bay. 31-3. He still went to the Pro Bowl that year.

  10. cometowin2 Says:

Also want to keep in mind that when ever he is in line for a fan voted award like the last year’s Pepsi rookie of the year award or last week’s Fed-Ex Air player of the week he usually wins. Jamies is a polarizing figure. You either love him or hate him. Very few are in the middle. I think he’s great and wouldnt trade him for anyone.

  11. NashvilleBuc Says:

Besides spelling his name wrong I also overlooked that Favre didn’t start that game and it was his first year with the Pack. If I could delete the he comment I would. I still feel like there are comparisons here in terms of the wild ride Favre took the Packers on throughout his career.

  12. Defense Rules Says:

That Guy … An ESPN E-Poll of 1,100 people is hardly verification that Jameis is ‘the most disliked starter in the NFL’. And no, I’m not likely to take ESPN’s word for it that their survey group was representative of the American people. Jameis has interesting starting QB company in that survey though: Brady, Roethlisberger. Wonder if the media drove the perceptions of those 1,100 (fans & non-fans) as opposed to the QB’s performance on the field and value to their teams.

  13. Patrick in VA Says:

We would have been stoked about getting Brett Favre all those years ago when we came close to getting him. We would have had to endure these same things because they’re the same kind of QB. The difference is we’re getting Jameis on the front side of his career instead of on the back end when he’s already won super bowls and set records. I’m not down on Jameis for having a few duds once in a while. Especially when we get a team around him that can bail him out when he’s having those bad games. The problem with Sunday was that the whole team got off the bus figuring they were just going to watch Jameis win the game for them, evidently. They certainly weren’t there to play football themselves.

  14. Poor Glennon Says:

    I have Wentz envy.

  15. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    PoorGlennon

That makes sense. Embrace another QB over your own after TWO freaking games.

Man some of you guys hold a grudge eh?

  16. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Everybody here yammers about playing to win instead of playing not to lose.

Yet when we get a coach and QB who are willing to do just that we beotch about the predictable results. Live by the sword die by the sword.

The question is how many sword fights you win compared to what you lose.

The jury is sooooo far out on Koetter/#3 that it’s really kind of silly to be making pronouncements about an entire season much less an entire career.

  17. orlbucfan Says:

    Dear Joes,
Where is my comment? I just hit the submit and it’s gone. It’s the second time today. Just poof! No time for moderating. Thanks.

    Don’t see it? –Joe

  18. orlbucfan Says:

@Joe: No, hate to put you through this. Mebbe it was too long. Oh well.

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

I blame the schedule makers. Starting with Arizona these 4 games in a row are brutal. Should have spread these opponents out in the schedule to reflect closer reality to the Bucs 2015 finish. The schedule appears to be an attempt to bury the Bucs early.

  20. Poor Glennon Says:

Throw the stats out the window. Visually look at Wentz. He’s loose l,smooth and comfortable. Hes dropping balls in with perfect accuracy. Then watch #3. He’s tight and stiff and uncomfortable and if off on way to many throws. Time will tell i hope i’m wrong.

  21. William Walls Says:

Anyone who remembers tbe first four years of Brett Favre’s career has seen this movie before. Jameis is going to be just fine, and eventually he’ll be great.

  22. Joe Says:

ESPN reported on Wednesday that an E-Poll Marketing Research survey of 1,100 people whose demographics reflect those of the general population showed Kaepernick was “disliked a lot” by 29 percent of the respondents. So what’s your point, the Bucs, Steelers and Belicheat need to find new quarterbacks?

Geez, “fans” hate Jameis only slightly more than Brady and Big Ben? Guess the Glazers, Rooneys and Bob Kraft have to sell their teams in shame, huh?
