Did Licht Nix ASJ Trade?

September 29th, 2016
Report claims Jets explored ASJ trade.

Report claims Jets “discussed” ASJ trade.

Did Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht wave off a possible trade of tweety tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins? It’s a question that needs to be asked following a report on theMMQB.com.

NFL insider Albert Breer posted an item in his notebook column that suggests the Jets explored a trade for ASJ. What is unclear is if the Jets actually reached out to Licht, or whether Licht even talked turkey with the Jets.

Did the Jets roll the dice on Austin Seferian-Jenkins? They most certainly did. But this didn’t come out of nowhere. New York discussed trading for the star-crossed, but physically freakish tight end back in August, and have done a lot of work on him.

This is something Joe will try to get to the bottom of today when he is out at One Buc Palace. But if Licht refused overtures from the Jets over ASJ, who was cut last week after being jailed for suspicion of a DUI and needing to take a huge s(p)it, Joe has only one word to type:

Ugh!

Not good Joe(s), he had issues, kicked out of OTA’s, and if they had ANY kind of offer, I think we all saw the writing on the wall, trade the guy. I know there will be some sort of spin on this, but damn, this is a big miss for Licht.

Yes! I love the format of this article. I miss the old JoeBucsfan.com.

You cant change stupidity and imcompetance

He doesnt know how to be a successful and qualified GM

The NFL executives know how enticing the Tampa GM position is with Jameis and what a hack Jason Gump is.

They are circling around Forrest Gump as we speak. Run Forrest Run!

Jason Gump rules and controls 1 buc place with a heavy hand. There is no balance of power. The backstabber doesnt want to be backstabbed…

and the local media dogs will beg and serve a new master

When reading this, everyone should keep in mind, Kobe Faker (and whoever he used to post as) thinks Mark Dominik was a better GM that Licht has been.

I know, it made me laugh too.

    Mark dominik is a hack

    Lovie is a hack

    Jason gump is a hack

My only alligence and fan of is jaboo winston

He wont win superbowls without a competent GM

Dom is an Idiot but Licht is even worse”

When anyone thinks Licht is worse than Dom, that’s all I need to know about your opinion.

  8. The Buc Realist Says:

It worked out better that he was not traded!!!!While some would have called NFL GM Licht “super rockstar” if he got a 5th round pick for ASJ. Cutting him will have far more ramifications for this team than anything he did on the field!!!! The roster is looking around now knowing that they jettisoned the second protected guy!!!! This was a huge statement!!!!! Sometimes someone has to get thrown thru the front window to get everyone’s attention!!!!!

We just witnessed the start of the culture being changed!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

is anyone surprised? We coulda had a 3 or 4 for glennon the month before we drafted JW, but Lict wouldn’t pull the trigger. Then he spent the next 18 months trying to find the same offer and it was no where to be found. Now glennon will walk and we are forced to waste a valuable roster spot on a 3rd qb so we have a back up next year. DUMB

Said it a million times and you can see it now.
Jason is a okay scout you can say he is average/pediatran
He is not a big picture guy. He doesn’t have the skill set to will and deal. He also can’t read the tea leaves on drafts meaning every draft is strong on certain players and its time to shop. His first draft and this past
Draft is a perfect examples of that.

    Meant up say pedestrian

Hey…….wait a minute BACKSTABBER, I coined that phrase. I’ve come to learn a new word here lately, “Culture Change” what the bleeping hell is that, when LOVIE was Coach and in charge of all things Bucs football, all everybody said needed to be done was fire LOVIE anyway this team needs some more talent, example the Saftey Position play has to improve!! 13 games to play with 8 more games to win! Culture Change ha ha ha ha!

There is NOT a team or GM in league going to give the bucs a bag of expired potato chips for a horrible backup who has regressed and can’t even look decent against 3rd and 4th stringers. No team needs or wants the heartless mike Glennon

  14. Jason Says:

From reading it, it looks like the Jets had internal discussions about a trade. I didn’t read it as they had discussions “with Tampa.”

  15. Conte Piscateli Says:

Even if the jets made an offer, we don’t know what the offer was, it could have been a conditional 6th Rd pick. At that time ASJ we are told was working his butt of trying to regain his starting position. Don’t think I would have taken the deal. Note if last Friday they called and offered a new pair of shoes for Aguayo, that’s an easy deal.

  16. mike n Says:

@tmax… Exactly my point. Now , nothing, but before the 2015 draft a decent pick and of course we keep another horrible back up on the roster bc our gm thinks someone will sign griffin if he’s on our PS. Once the 2014 season was over, Glennon should have been traded bc it was clear we would draft jw or mm, but lict held on untill we couldn’t get a bag of expired potatoe chips.

  17. BucAllNight Says:

Has anyone ever stopped to think about the (compensatory) pick that we would get if MG8 walks?? Good teams/GM like the Ravens/Ozzie seem to thrive on these year after year and always walk into the draft w a high number of picks….
Maybe Jason understands this and is looking to start arming us with those…
That will allow us to trade, move up and all etc… Jus saying

  18. Bucsfan951 Says:

Here comes all of the keyboard gm’s….

It’s so funny that everyone is already assuming that the Jet reached out about trading for him.

The snippet in Joes article only states:

New York discussed trading for the star-crossed, but physically freakish tight end back in August, and have done a lot of work on him.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that they discussed it with the Bucs. They might’ve just had some internal discussions about it. But no, everyone is already going to assume the worst cause they must be in these meetings with these professionals.

If you really think we’re getting anything higher than a 5th (which would be at the end of the 5th), then as soon as i get off probation, PLEASE pass me whatever you’re smoking.

  20. Destinjohnny Says:

    Yep thats me keyboard gm
    I wanted
1st Sheldon rankins or Shaq Lawson
    2- Sterling Shepard
3- trade up and get Jaren Reed
Pass rush explosive wideout and violent interior lineman
This draft is a wideout draft
Would have dealt the mental midget asj for a draft pic after i put him on ir
But again what do I know

  21. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @Bigdog

    Truly an honest question:

If you have to pick one or the other, Tampa Bay Bucs or Lovie Smith. Who do you pick first?

How long does this go? 3, 4, 5 coaches after Koetter, are you still going to be pining for Lovie?

Because, you come off as someone who cares more about a specific coach, then you do as a fan of the team.

  22. mike n Says:

@bucsall night and celly… their will be most likly zero from a compensatory stand point. We will sign a few free agents this offseason and glennon will sign elsewhere. He would have to sign a huge contract for us to get anything for the 2018 draft.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

@Realist…you are 1 dumd cookie…lol….the only difference between trading a player and cutting a player is that you get something for him….trading a player produces the same type of message…your not wanted here….it sends the same type of message to the team…do your job well or you’ll be gone….your just as dumb as licht….as I said once when it all happened, dirk should’ve held him inactive while licht manifested a trade…anything!!!

this is just another stupid move by licht and im not even surprised….

first you select 1 d-lineman in one of the deepest d-line drafts in nfl history…then you trade away picks to get a kicker you could’ve gotten later….don’t select a wr to help and grow with your franchise qb….sign a player to a huge deal as our projector starter that has a broken back….release one of our better running backs in mike james knowing doug is injury prone….not making a trade for a talented player when your in need of all the draft picks you can get….

he probably turned down trades for mike glennon too….GO BUCS!!!

Jason Licht should have been fired with Lovie, everyone keep saying, how great of a GM he is. I don’t see it, I look at our roster and I look at our record since he been GM. It don’t make sense, but hey we are the Bucs, what do make sense?.

You’re preaching to the choir here, mike n

You can look at the archives and see that I’ve been touting that. I only use that scenario since people are so convinced we can get a comp pick for him.

  27. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Love and W/D: let’s just keep the playing field level, LOVIE came to a team that layed down on Coach Toes On The Line, not a good team at all. This is the deal with me, it takes time to build a contender, now I must admit there are times when the abnormal happens a coach get a team turned around after one year again I say abnormal! Now on to Coach K in my opinion it ain’t gonna happen this year nor next year because we don’t have key pieces in place this year, there will be a new defensive scheme to learn next year for sure, not a good thing to try to do when turning a team around as we all now can see, if this team does not progress this year it will be another wasted year of the little talent we have here, I want the Bucs to win, I’m even hoping for an UPSET SUNDAY! Something is Wrong at One Buc Pkace, but where will the fan base place the blame this year? I don’t know, but it sure as Hell won’t be LOVIE !!

  28. Kobe Faker Says:

I blame lovie for bringing in jason gump
