“Cause You Got Some *&$% In Your Neck”
September 16th, 2016A former Buccaneers quarterback has added to the candid-talking legend of Tampa Bay head coach Dirk Koetter.
It’s part of a great interview right here on Arizona sports radio from Rudy Carpenter. He played quarterback at Arizona State University for Koetter, who was the Sun Devils head coach for six years. Carpenter also spent time on the Bucs’ roster from 2009 through 2011.
Carpenter shared a great story of being recruited as a high schooler by Koetter, who he says always has been very sarcastic.
During a recruiting visit, the California prep star said he asked Koetter why he was recruiting him, Koetter replied, “Cause you got some *&$% in your neck.”
Carpenter went on to say that a couple of years later in a game in which Carpenter made an ill-advised throw, Koetter asked him what the heck he was doing. Carpenter replied, “Don’t you remember? I got some *&$% in my neck.”
Fun stuff.
On Koetter the playcaller, Carpenter talked about how Koetter has developed a diverse and effective screen-passing game since arriving the NFL, and that the Cardinals need to throw a pile of blitzes and diverse looks at America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, in order to beat Tampa Bay on Sunday.

There was a pass in what I believe was the second quarter of the game last week that solidified in my mind that Koetter is the offensive mind that we need in place. It was a short pass out to the left side to Humphries that went for a big gain due to some beautiful blocking out in front of him. It look like something that was actually well designed and well executed, which is something we have not seen from a Tampa offense. I’d love to see our boys win this weekend, but I’m stoked about the team’s potential going forward regardless of the outcome this week.

I am not sure who gets the thumbs up for this one, but I loved it in the Atlanta game (just before the half) when the BUCS raced up to the LOS to spike the ball. I knew it, the birds knew it, my 10-year-old son knew it, Jamies even signaled for it…but they didn’t, instead Jamies took the snap and connected with Jackson on a short out route to the right sideline picking up 7 yards…which preserved the timeout. BRILLIANT! That’s what made me think this team, this year is going to be different.

I hope DK has an awesome game plan this week because we are going to need it. All I heard last week was how poor the Atlanta pass rush was, and then JW got knocked around for most of the first half. Lucky that limp he had didn’t take him outta the game. If Atlanta’s pass rush is NO good and Arizona’s is so great, we are going to have our hands full on Sunday. I hope Jameis protects the football, and doesn’t turn it over too many times, by throwing those short passes like he did in the first half of the Atlanta game. We can’t afford to keep giving teams 7 points in every game. If he does have an INT I hope it is not on our side of the 50 yard line. Pluck these birds too! Go BUCS!

I loved that as well. That was some Marino / Rodgers $hit. 2nd favorite call of the game. Screen to hump was my favorite

What did Koetter say he had in his neck? A lot fits there. The first word of the seven words you can’t say on television? If so it must be western speak.

Patrick in VA, the falcons used to beat us running that play over and over again. Its a thing of beauty. Its even more beautiful when we run it agaonst them two years after they lost koetter and makes them look silly. I love koetter man so glad he is here!
