“Strength Of The Team”
September 15th, 2016Arguably history’s greatest Buccaneer, Mr. Derrick Brooks, was talking about the 2016 Buccaneers yesterday.
Of course, since Joe covers the Buccaneers for a living and for fun, Joe was listening.
Brooks was back for his weekly Tampa-2 show with Steve Duemig on WDAE-AM 620. The entire audio is below.
No. 55 had heavy praise for the Bucs linebackers, which he called the “strength of the team.” Brooks said that while the Bucs’ defensive line was stout in occupying offensive linemen and freeing the linebackers to make players, Brooks was overly impressed with the tackling quality of Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David.
He said their execution “at the point of contact” was stunning and he looks forward to seeing the official “YAC” stats, yards after contact. Brooks said that’s a great measuring stick for the defense, and it was clear he’s expecting the linebackers will have some standout numbers.
“And they played faster,” Brooks said of the defense. It wasn’t lost on Brooks how the defense “played from a lead” with a major assist from the offense.

Exactly, they played with that Killa instinct that we all miss from our D.
The Bend Don’t Break is Back!
In other words your D won’t give up the go ahead points early or late. Assuming the O does its job too.
This is the beginning of the newest DyNasty!!! So fun to know and WATCH AND BE A PART OF!!!

Arguably? No. And it’s not close. Lee Roy is the greatest on and off the field. Brooks is a fine number two.

The linebackers are outstanding. Probably the single best position group on the team and one of the best in the league.

LVD and Kwon remind me of the Thompson twins. Some of you 76ers might be lost but all late 70s and 80 s babies familiar wit what I’m talkin bout.

Nos
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of lbs this athletic and fast in my lifetime. The speed of Darryl Green with the hitting power of Bo Jackson. Good gawd!

Its easy to see that we have the best starting LB group in the league when you add up last year’s stats from LD54, Kwon and Daryl Smith. Its not even close.
Smith will not have those kind of #s again this year since the Sam is only on the field half the time – but he is still very capable of being a difference maker when needed – and the positives resulting from Smith being in Kwon and LVD’s ear all day every day is already paying paying Big dividends.

Jack, Lee Roy is the greatest off the field. But Brooks is not only the best Buccaneer ever he’s one of the greatest players I’ve ever seen

I am in love with our backers and get excited seeing them fly around the field. I am just as in love with our Defensive tackles who are keeping them clean so the LBs can make those plays.

Not going to start anything but DB 55 is by far and away the best Buccaneer defender of all time. Lee Roy, Sapp, Lynch were the next best 3 in no particular order.
It’s all opinion. They could all dominate a game but Brooks could downright win it for you. Imagine if they set him free to blitz or edge rush several times a game!?!?

Dave
Agree that it’s just friendly sports opinion and I agree with your point except for Lynch. Loved John…loved watching him dropping the hammer but he’s not in the same class as DB, LeeRoy and Sapp.
I remember the glory days when Vick was a star QB watching Derrick just take Vick’s game away from him. It’s all personal opinion but DB is my favorite all time Buc defender….hell player period.

Many need to check their fan cards!!! No one here is going to mention my favorite Buc, Future Hall Of Famer Rhonde Barber!!!!!!!!!!!!

DB is my all time favorite as well, but Sapp changed the game and expectations for his position.

Finally a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!!
I love how heisting our SPEED
instead of dropping LVD back all the time lie Lovie Smith did!
At least Schiano knew what he was doing,
@joe
the stunts were because we Adrian Claiborne, who CANNOT break the edge, he’s an up and down runner, he has little bend in his turn around the offensive tackle.
Schiano BLITZED the hell out of LVD and it worked!
Mason Foster is still playing but the way.
I am happy for him. He was slow, but he gave the bus his heart.
Good luck Mason Foster!!!
Much love and RESPECT!

See what can happen with proper coaching and a relavent defensive scheme?

Commander Kwon Alexander!
