Ballhawks
September 17th, 2016Joe wrote yesterday how impressive it was that the defense of the Bucs had such success on third downs in Atlanta.
Part of the reason is the play of the secondary, specifically the cornerbacks. Brent Grimes is playing his normal taut ways and rookie Vernon Hargreaves is playing like anything but a rookie. This has not gone unnoticed.
While breaking down last week’s film, X’s and O’s guru Andy Benoit of theMMQB.com wrote the play of Grimes and Hargreaves jumped out at him.
(@Andy_Benoit) #Bucs Film: Grimes and Hargreaves both covered very well, especially at end of routes on ball’s arrival.
This is something Joe has noticed as well. Both Grimes and Hargreaves close on the ball so damn well. It’s why they are ballhawks.
Consider what Dirk Koetter said Thursday.
“That kid can close,” Koetter said of Hargreaves. “He had an interception in practice today where it looked like it was going to be open and he closed it, came underneath the receiver and picked it. He’s got a burst and then he’s got good ball skills on top of it. A really good burst.”
Shoot, Hargreaves plays so much like Grimes, he looks to Joe an awful lot like a younger version of Grimes.

VH3 gets his first INT, and Spawn gets his first sack on Sunday. Mark it down.

We are deep with CBs and our top two have great speed and solid instincts….I’m looking forward to seeing VH3 develop.

Talent, simple as that!

Talent allowed to play and being able to recognize talent, simple as that.

How ironic is it that we have Grimes protégé right next to him learning and waiting to take over, I agree they are pretty much a spitting image of each other. VH3 is gonna be a very special player in this league. U can tell by the skills he has as a rookie that once he gets better he’s gonna be on another level. I think we finally found Ronde’s protégé as well, but with a little better ball hawking skills, yes Ronde has better tackling skills but don’t underestimate Vernons willingness to put his head in there and make a tackle, I think his tackling skills are very underated.

Hey joe how’s revis Island doing these days? I heard it’s more like Revis Resort.
September 17th, 2016 at 9:34 am
The Lightning has the “triplets” now the Bucs have the “twins”.

@Supersam
I never felt Revis was worth bringing in at the price he demanded, but the guy IS getting older now. He’ll be slowing down as time goes on.

I see a couple INTs this week because of the and the pass rush. Carson Palmer is good but has always made mistakes when under pressure. I want a Spence sack!!!!
And consistent pressure
