There’s a Buccaneer who says he has no real problem coming off the bench — even though he’s started a whole lot of games and been wildly effective.
Joe’s talking about defensive end Jacquies Smith.
Smith has 13 1/2 sacks over 18 starts during the last two Bucs seasons. He’s the Bucs’ resident edge-rusher-in-chief. But it’s expected that Will Gholston and Robert Ayers will start at defensive end.
Smith said today that he’s looking at it as he’s the “sixth man,” just like in the NBA. “I’ll just kind of take that role right now. Obviously, whatever opportunity you get you just got to capitalize out there and be effective, man. And I think I’ll be able to do that.”
The Bucs plan to rotate eight defensive lineman in a huge way. Just look at what Dirk Koetter told Joe at the NFL Owners meetings this year.
Joe is confident Smith will get all kinds of playing time. Simply put, the guy makes plays. He gets results. And until the Bucs find another guy to get seven sacks a year in limited time, and be pretty solid in run defense, Smith is going to get plenty of work.

Pablo was a poster on JBF a couple of years ago. I think Pablo left when Josh Freeman left….anyway, he hasn’t returned. Pablo always spoke in the third person and was quite naturally funny.
TBBF decided to speak for Pablo to continue his legacy.

The trifecta of pass rushing specialists in Jac, Smith, Noah Spence and HoJo is gonna do some damage this year.

Jack smith isn’t a starter because the game starts wih a first down. Jack is an excellent pass rusher at times. But will Gholston is an excellent run stopper at times. So you start gholston and bring in jack on passing downs. It’s a good rotation and will hopefully keep everyone fresh and playing explosive football for 4 quarters.
