“You Could See That It Was Our First Time”
August 4th, 2016The Buccaneers cut practice short about 45 minutes today because of thunderstorms, but there was enough time on the field for Ali Marpet to assess “sloppy” play.
Specifically, Marpet told assembled media that the Bucs weren’t sharp in their two-minute drills.
“I think you could see that it was our first time really doing two-minute because we were a little sloppy; we were very sloppy,” Marpet said. “So I think we got to keep doing that moving forward.”
Yes, it’s Day 7 of training camp. The Bucs are still first approaching live work on elements of their offense. There were no touchdowns in the two-minute drill work.
Dirk Koetter was happy to get in limited work on a wet field and rain — to avoid a lack of preparation that hurt Tampa Bay last season.
“It was great to work with some bad weather,” Koetter said. “Remember that Carolina game last year, we only really worked in bad weather one in practice in wet ball bad conditions before we played that Carolina game. It definitely came back to haunt us in that Carolina game.”
Koetter explained that the Bucs got in “high red zone” work today and will progress down to tight red zone work as next Thursday’s preseason opener approaches.
“It’s just where we are in the install,” Koetter said.

Off topic. What’s the update on Sweezy? Cowboys loss a backup qb. And Oleary is there for the taking. I think Dallas is desperate enough to give him up plus a draft pick for Glennon. The Chiefs bounced on Foles soon as Kellen Moore went down.

I was wondering about Sweezy too. Is there any need for concern, Joe? I still have bad memories of Nicks.
