Jameis Winston talks change

There is one thing the Bucs’ offense definitely took from the training camp practice fields into their preseason game in Philadelphia on Thursday.

That was tempo. The Bucs have been practicing fast. Very fast. The pace is apparent to those who have watched plenty of summer workouts over the years.

It’s part of the Dirk Koetter mindset: work hard, smart and efficiently — and then get the hell off the field before it gets too hot.

Against the Eagles, Tampa Bay scored its lone touchdown when it went no-huddle. And America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, looked comfortable and confident.

Jameis emphasized another reason for the focus on up-tempo this year, during an appearance Saturday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“We got to create that grind mentality,” Jameis said.

That really got Joe thinking. The “grind mentality” Jameis speaks of really was lacking last year. Just look at what happened in Washington, and the wild inconsistencies in games — and in general.

Getting blown out opening day, bouncing back the next week. getting throttled too often at home, getting toasted by garbage quarterbacks, vaulting to 6-6, only to collapse completely.

That’s not what teams with a “grind mentality” do. Those teams are much more consistent, more workmanlike and focused.

Hopefully, Koetter and guys like “naturally pissed off” grinder Robert Ayers can will the Bucs to become that kind of team.

Jameis or bust! Though we do have MG8 to backup, let me check to see if he is still here, heh.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I am so looking forward to this.

I don’t care how the ins play out in preseason, or even before the bye week. I mean, going 2-3 before the bye would be great, but I figure this team will go on a winning streak after the bye. That will give it enough time for things to get set and gel.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

What I like best about this time of year is that all the hype is tossed out the window. It’s time to put up or shut up.

How losses are taken will be our first clue as to the future.

  4. BigHogHaynes Says:

If coach K can’t push this team to 9 wins then why give him another year, he has one helluva foundation!

  5. Last Buc Fan Says:

    Dotson just signed extention. Nice

  6. ndog Says:

So BigHogHaynes are you actually a fan of the Bucs or just Lovie Smith? Just wondering because based on your comments it is not very clear.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    ndog

make no mistake about it my favorite poster BigHog is 100% Lovie Smith it’s not about the Bucs or Team it’s what he thinks is best for his agenda.

  8. tmaxcon Says:

I take the Jameis is using the term Grind that NO more of the mental weakness or lapses after a bad play or penalty. Just focus and grind through it.

  9. Doctor Stroud Says:

If they’ve “got to create that grind mentality”, then that means they haven’t got it yet. I’m looking forward to the season. Go Bucs!

  10. celly Says:

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. Head coaches should get a 3 year contract with a 4th year team option.

Coaches should get a MINIMUM 3 years to build the team how they want.

I still feel Lovie should’ve gotten an extra year.
As much as i hated Schiano, even he still deserved an extra year.

    2 years is just

  11. celly Says:

    WAY too short.

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

Unlike beisball, two strikes you’re out. Schiano did deserve another year though.

  13. Couch Fan Says:

If a coach shows his Imcompetence his first year and again his 2nd year then he does not deserve a 3rd year. It’s very simple. Some on here only care about skin color and nothing about ability. Koeter hasent even had a chacne yet and idiots are talking about firing him if he doesnt get to certain wins this years. Ridiculous.

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Even I say give Koetter a chance. However…..Wins are all that matters. If Lovie won 6 last yr then Koetter has got to do better his 1st year. No excuses Buc Fans. No..the schedule is hard or to many injuries. Get her done..period!
I don’t want to hear how rough the sea is..Bring the GD Pirate Ship in!!!.
    Nough said.

  15. Brent bull/buc Says:

It’s not just about records. Lovie and crew didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing.

  16. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Celly that is true in most cases but as much as I wanted to see Lovie get 1 more year after winning 6 games to see what he’d do but after 2 seasons of mind blowing blowouts, unprepared defenses, no improvement in the defense, the Washington collapse and the end of season flop job when the Bucs were slightly in a realistic hunt for the playoffs Lovie had to go. Unlike those pasty guys up here who hate Lovie in their hearts I gave him a pass on the 1st season because it’s obvious to me he did what had to be done to get Jameis, Oroyo, playing McClown over MG8 and the last game is proof of that. Raheem had bad defenses, blowouts and big losing streaks, Schiano had bad defenses, blowouts, an epic collapse and 4 game flop job and were canned quickly so Lovie had to go.

Couchfan it’s funny you say some up here only see color yet some of those of you who have attacked him so harshly not just because of his job but because of his color. Schiano did just as bad and had just as bad teams yet you clowns give him a pass. Lovie HELPED lead the Bears to a 13-3 record, NFC Championship win and the Superbowl appearance and yet he is considered incompetent. Why is that? He does not speak in broken English or ebonics yet the white posters up here question his intelligence. Schiano has really done nothing as a head coach college or NFL yet some of these same guys consider him a better coach. So how is it he deserved a 3rd year and Lovie didn’t? Some of these same guys have even tore down Dungy who turned this entire franchise around yet consider Gruden who tore this franchise apart a great coach. This is why BigHog and MikeJohnson vehemently support Lovie at this time because of how you all have attacked Lovie because of his color and treat Koetter who’s never coached at the NFL level like a 2nd coming of some sort. It’s not just because his color.
