VIDEO: More Growing Pains For Hargreaves

August 17th, 2016

Hargreaves2The Bucs’ No. 11 overall pick hasn’t looked like a No. 11 overall pick yet this summer.

Sure, he flashes A-list skills in drills, but on the field is another story.

Hargreaves has been inconsistent in training camp, and sometimes he’s downright bad against second-teamers. Against the Eagles last week, he dropped an interception in his hands.

Don’t be confused. Joe is not down on Hargreaves. Joe is simply taking notes. The Bucs’ top rookie looks like he has a long way to go.

In Jacksonville today, the JoeBucsFan.com video team caught Hargreaves struggling with Jaguars receiver Rashad Greene, who caught 19 balls as a rookie fifth-round pick last season.

Below, you’ll see Greene field a pass from Blake Bortles in the end zone and commit an ugly pass interference.

Joe talked to Hargreaves after practice.

He called Bortles “very accurate” and clearly aware of “where to go with the ball.” The rookie also said today he was just trying to” see different looks, see different formations, all part of getting better.”

Joe asked Hargreaves if being in the NFL is all just hitting him now that he got to experience a preseason game. Hargreaves admitted it was a hurdle he needed to leap, and a fun one, too.

“The whole plane ride back I watched the game,” Hargreaves said laughing. “It’s cool now. Playing in it, seeing it, I think it kind of settled in.

“It was crazy. It didn’t really hit me until I watched the film.”

Again, Joe has no concerns about Hargreaves, but as of now, it seems like he’s poised for a typical rookie season of growing pains.

No surprises here. I see potential but not Marcus Peters impact in his rookie season.

eam caught Hargreaves struggling with Jaguars receiver Rashad Greene

No FSU > UF jokes please. Ty, carry on.

  3. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

As a Bucs fan obviously I’m rooting for this kid and hope he turns into a solid NFL player, but I’ve got to say I just never understood the hype around him. I watched him get burnt routinely by good receivers in college. The thought of Rankins, Spence and McCoy playing on the same line is going to be going through my head just as much as the thought of Keuchly and LVD playing linebacker for this team

  4. PRBucFan Says:

VHII did a great job in game 1 in coverage, and pick or not he did a great job defending that pass. This is the first iv’e hear anything negative about him.

As far as him being no Marcus Peters, no one thought Marcus would have the kind impact he had either. So it is what it is. Wait till he actually plays his first game before beginning the criticism.

  5. 813bucboi Says:

he’ll be fine….typical rookie adjustments to the nfl….GO BUCS!!!

  6. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

The dropped INT was a good play on the ball. Cover skills are #1 you can’t rant on a CB for being bad cause he dropped a ball when he actually still made an amazing play

  7. Brent bull/buc Says:

I never watched him I’m a bulls fan but guys who say he was routinely burnt I don’t get it. How do you make 1st team all sec 3 straight years if your getting burnt?

  8. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

A lot to do about nothing on this one right here. Look at the film Marcus Peters caught some picks yes but he got used and learned from it on more than one occasion last season. Lets not act like duke didn’t have his fair share of up and down. Revis wasn’t Revis Island until around year three. Again we will be starting two pro bowl corners this season. None issue right here.

Brent welcome to the mental of some here at my Buccs site home JBF.

  10. iamkingsu Says:

That slot is a different beast

  11. OrlandoBucs Says:

Disclaimer: Joe always sides with FSU players.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

Like I said …Dont come back to Tampa without Rashad Greene

Greene will be our 2016 leading reception and yardage receiver

Jacksonville is loaded with 3 other receivers

I doubt they want any of our hot garbage Vjackson, Humphries, etc, give Jac a 4th rounder

  13. Waterboy Says:

Not my favorite pick at #11 but far the worst they could’ve done. I’ll give him a rookie pass this season. Playing CB is a tough transition from college to pros so hopefully he’ll stay healthy and keep working and adjusting this year.

  14. DallasBuc Says:

I think the kid will be great. I’m patient with this scenario.

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Like Ronde Barber said..it takes at least 3 years to adjust playing that position..Ronde also said that VH3 is far more along than he was in his first year..

    So there you go…

  16. Joe Says:

I doubt they want any of our hot garbage Vjackson, Humphries, etc, give Jac a 4th rounder

Vincent Jackson is “hot garbage?” In what world?

  17. Lord Cornelius Says:

“I doubt they want any of our hot garbage Vjackson, Humphries, etc, give Jac a 4th rounder

Vincent Jackson is “hot garbage?” In what world”

lol have you not seen this guys other comments? The kobe faker world is a complex dark place

  18. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

    Hey Joe,

Are the practice notes coming out at 5 pm Central time?

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

VH3 is the very least of my worries……especially if we have 3 or 4 CB better than he is now…..we have come a long way.
I thought he had a great game…..the first of many

  20. Destinjohnny Says:

Been saying it the whole time.
Could have gotten similar talent in the 3rd round.
There was so much d line talent that we left on the table wow

  21. Tom S. Says:

It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish. Hargreaves is known for his technique. The NFL is a different level so he’s going to burnt a bit until he learns the ropes. But I have no doubt if he keeps working on it he’ll be fine and a future starter for a long time.

  22. BigHogHaynes Says:

Not to worry he’s getting the LOVIE coached out of him!

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

Too early to call on VH3, a first round pick with time should prove worthy.

  24. THETRUTH Says:

#20 Barber looked bad for a couple years , he will be alright and good thing we have people ahead of him for time to develop

  25. Trubucfan22 Says:

Marcus petera got a ton of picks, but was burnt toast on every other play. i hope VH3 is more consistent with his play than Peters is. The picks are a nice stat, but i’d rather have my CBs not giving up 10 TDs

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

It looks like hargreaves was either in zone with the way he trailed him like that, or Greene hit him with a nasty double move that caused VH3 to lose him.

  27. Vegabuc Says:

It’s just the way Seminoles have been beating the Lizards Joe. Nothing to worry about he’ll be just fine.

  28. PRBucFan Says:

A similar talent in the 3rd round lolol. Now that’s funny.

  29. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

If u go back and watch the tape from Peters rookie campaign u will see that alot of his pics were gift wrapped and came right to him without him having to run n make a play on the ball, I’m not taking away from his historic rookie year, I just saying stats can sometimes be deceiving, like others just said he was also toasted quite a few times as well. CB’s have to adjust to the superior play of the NFL where every QB can drop a dime on u, unlike college where more than half the guys u play are garbage and will never make it to the NFL. Give him time, he has all the tools to be a shutdown corner, not to mention the “IT” factor as well. There’s no doubt in my mind that he will be a pro bowl caliber corner in the future.

  30. Destinjohnny Says:

The panthers 2 and 3rd round corners they picked are big fast and physical
Daryl Worley a 3rd round pick will be better then vh3.
Slow and undersized. I would take either of their picks over ours

  31. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Almost made it thru without hearing a lame ass seminole joke.

#ACC = the All Cream puff Confrence.

#Holla at us when u play in TE as like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennesee every year. Lol u guys have ONE team that’s decent in Clemson who just came on last year so give me a break. The level of competition isn’t even close. Would love to see yalls record playin in the best conference in college football.

  32. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Destin Johnny just provided us with the joke of the day!!! Only a uneducated panthers fan would say sum crap like that and actually believe it. Leave the scouting to the pros. VH3 is a top 10 talent. Period. End of story.

  33. Destinnohnny Says:

That’s why he is beating Jude out for the slot.
    Wait no he is not.
    But we drafted Jude high
Wait no he was a free agent
So your boy is getting best out by a free agent.
Slow and undersized. Will be challenged just like in college to ever play out of the slot.

  34. teacherman777 Says:

He looked lightning quick in the pre-season game.

    He’s just a KID!!

    A baby faced little kid!

Give him 8 games to catch his stride for logic’s sake!!!

    Go Bucs!!

I’m with you Vernon Hargreaves III

    Forget all these fools!

  35. NJ BucFan Says:

Lol even on that “ugly play” which he simply misread the route combination he was still in position to make a play and in a live game I’m willing to bet, based on what we’ve seen so far, that we would’ve seen a different effort on the pass break up in a live game.
