Trolling Jason Licht
August 17th, 2016People wonder why Joe doesn’t watch BSPN outside of live games (likely football or college basketball). Well, here is Exhibit No. 2305.
Stage stooge Trey Wingo, who has the greatest attribute a sports anchor can possess (well-coiffed hair), has a bug up his rear end about the Bucs drafting kicker Roberto Aguayo. Nearly four months later, Wingo has yet to see a proctologist.
Last week, he had the gall to suggest unless Aguayo can match the numbers of Adam Vinatieri, Aguayo will go down as the worst draft pick in NFL history. Rrriiiggghhhtt...
Joe doesn’t know where to start with that, a second-round pick being the worst pick in NFL history. If Wingo really does feel this way (smells like a bad troll job), then Wingo should recuse himself from working an NFL beat for abject ignorance of the sport’s history, if he had any ethics and regard for his audience, which, frankly, BSPN treats like derelicts.
In this video below, Wingo mocks Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for selecting Aguayo. Of course, Wingo has a nasty history with the Bucs, which includes what sure seemed like racially-charged remarks.
Damn it, Roger Goodell and Rob Manfred, can you please allow your league’s networks to be streamed — even for a price — so Joe can cord-cut eight months a year so fools like this Wingo empty-head aren’t subsidized by Joe’s satellite bill?

All I know is Aguayo better be great, starting with nailing his extra point kicks.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:27 am
First let’s face it, he is going to miss a kick from time to time everyone does. I think his missing the kick helps because it’s out of the way.
Worst pick ever is ridiculous. At worst he will be a middle of the road kicker in the league for the next 10 to 15 years, still better than Bowers or Banks appear to be (both 2nd round picks).
In most fans eyes he will never live up to their unrealistic expectations because they don’t like the pick. I figure if he makes over 85% of his fg doesn’t miss more than 3 extra points, is solid on kickoffs and clutch with end of game fg opportunities he will be a solid 2nd round pick.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:27 am
Roberto Aguayo was on my wishlist. I’m a firm believer that if you want a player bad enough, you take him where you want to take him, regardless of other people’s opinions or rankings.
Criticism always follows though.
Look at Marpet (another player I wanted). When he was taken, even Joe was critical at first.
No one complains about him being a 2nd rounder now, do they? Jason Licht may suck at free agency, but he excels at drafting.
Roberto Aguayo was the right move. What troy does not go into is that the Bucs have been struggling at kicker for nearly a decade outside of 1 player. Licht solve a long term issue.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:28 am
Berto will be just fine, people like this make me smirk because they’ll be singing the praises of such decision down the road. Bank on it.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:28 am
Joe- NFL Network and RedZone coming to Sling.com this fall. Cut that cable!
August 17th, 2016 at 7:32 am
So….he thinks Aguayo will be a worse pick than Dexter Jackson (rd 2)…..or how about Bo Jackson round one, overall pick 1….didn’t play a snap for the Bucs.
My money is on those two picks as the worse picks in Bucs history.
I also think Aguayo will end up
August 17th, 2016 at 7:32 am
Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf come to mind immediately as some of the worst draft picks ever and these guys were taken in the first round. There are many more in just the first round alone. Where does ESPN find these loser anchors?
August 17th, 2016 at 7:33 am
Aguayo will end up beingin a better 2nd rd pick than Price & Bowers…..
August 17th, 2016 at 7:34 am
Also, special teams has hardly practiced, outside of Roberto Aguayo kicking at the uprights. Thursday was the first time he played a game in the NFL, the first time other players rushed him in the NFL, and the first time kicking between narrower uprights while under pressure.
So he missed his first kick.
The hypocrisy is astounding. Jameis Winston threw a pick with his first pass, and no one said “Winston was a bad pick!” and the coaches did not refuse to give him more chances (like Bell returning kicks).
In fact, I fully expect Roberto Aguayo to miss a few kicks starting out. Kickers have to acclimate to the NFL too.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:38 am
Correct me if Im wrong but isn’t a Kicker still the highest scoring Buc of all time??
This kid will be Great.
Go BUCS

@Jaykpatel
I get all of those channels and more for free. Why would I pay $20/month (+ extra for more)?
The only thing I pay for is Hulu. The rest are digital broadcasting, Roku channels and for some reason I get a few Brighthouse channels too.
August 17th, 2016 at 7:42 am
How?
August 17th, 2016 at 7:51 am
I love Licht and I love Aguayo…..
Having said that…
We should have drafted a WR to grow with Mike Evans and James Winston.
Receivers ar wasted picks as first rounders but very smart second round picks.
We probably could have jumped back into the THIRD and drafted Aguayo.
Anyway, we can’t change the past. So,
Viva Aguayo!!!
August 17th, 2016 at 7:52 am
I have a Roku. All I need is wifi and it gets all of those channels listed on Sling and more.
Legally.
A Roku goes for about $100 bucs at Walmart. I still have my original one (the first) and it’s lasted me 3-4 years. Full HD.
In fact, I think the new Roku has UHD.
NFLN is even on there. Live and on demand.

$100 “Bucks”
Sorry, got football on my mind 😉
August 17th, 2016 at 7:54 am
Its comments were pretty right. You don’t take a kicker with two premium picks. Kickers are a dime a dozen and there is little difference between a pro bowl kicker and a middle of the road kicker. Theres a reason kicker are selected in the top 100 almost never
August 17th, 2016 at 7:55 am
I also export the games from DVR to a portable hard drive that hooks up to my smart 3DTV.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:05 am
Its just that we cut the most accurate kicker in Buc history in Barth. We needed a wide receiver, tight end or ANY additional defensive player. That is why so many will watch to see how he performs. Yes he will miss a kick here or there but if he isn’t an 85% FB accuracy guy then it was a wasted pick.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:05 am
Checked Roku. NFL Network not available. NFL Now is (big difference). NFL Now is available to anyone with internet access.
NFL “channel” is not NFL Network.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:10 am
I’m not even gonna respond to that idiotic comment. Out of all the terrible busts in the NFL?? Nvrmnd. I’m not gonna get started. Let’s just say if he makes 50% of his FG he’s better than all those collosul busts in history.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:11 am
@iknow why… exactly right. Better to have drafted jon bullard and pharoh cooper or another wr and have a kicker like barth or whoever (someone whos done it before). Because at the end of the day, there won’t be much difference between our kicker and say nick novack. I’m sure a few gm’s were laughing
August 17th, 2016 at 8:17 am
The thing about these pundits that I find peculiar is,for a team that hasn’t amounted to much over the last decade they seem to have a healthy level of interest when it comes to Buccs movement now. I wonder why..
August 17th, 2016 at 8:22 am
Sigh… You know, I don’t expect much more from the four-letter network. Fact-less warriors and those that follow. Fact is, Bucs barely hovered around 70% of field goals made last year which was damn near the bottom of the league, two spots away from that honor to be exact. And let’s not forget the missed extra points. Bottom line is, they used a pick to make the trade up which they did not initially have to begin with. His ability to pin the ball deep and in certain areas on kickoffs and his field goal accuracy makes him worth it IMMEDIATELY. No other third rounder can have an immediate impact like the impact Aguayo presents.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:47 am
The premise that it’s no big deal to spend 2 picks on a kicker bc we got one of the picks in a trade is about as dumb as it gets. We spent 2 picks on a kicker. Almost all professional kickers can loft the ball high for hang time to pin the ball deep…. they are professionals and almost all will be able to adjust.
Glad we didn’t make this trade last year and give up the picks we used for Marpet and or Kwon.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:49 am
Trey Wingo didn’t actually say this in the video. Did you mean to link an article where he actually said this? If you are deliberately making inaccurate statements you are spinning people’s words and distorting what was actually said. It’s irresponsible. Look at the comments. People think he actually said this.
While I don’t like Trey Wingo’s smug-ness I absolutely agree with what was said in the video. The only way this pick is worthwhile is if Aguayo turns out to be the next Vinatieri and wins the Bucs games. Heck, I’ll even settle for the next Martin Grammatica. However, if Aguayo ends up becoming the next Graham Gano it will be one of the deciding factors if Licht loses his job. GMs cannot afford to miss on 1st or 2nd round picks.
By the way, Graham Gano is a good kicker so my comment isn’t a knock on him. He’s not 2nd round material. I like the bold pick as well but Wingo is spot on with his commentary here.
August 17th, 2016 at 8:53 am
He said this last week. It was an entire topic discussion. If you have the video link, feel free to forward.
Wingo also referenced Vinatieri in the video above. You may want to watch (and more importanly, listen) to the video again. Joe doesn’t take too kindly to accusations he’s making up quotes. Tread lightly here pal.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:19 am
Idiot.
Why does it matter how many games we lost by three points? Are kickers only allowed to account for three points in a game? He must have missed the handful of games where we missed multiple field goals. Or games that we missed one field goal at a terrible time and momentum was killed. I’m not 100% sold on the Aguayo pick either, but Wingo’s comments are asinine.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:22 am
Dummy doesn’t understand if Bucs had a reliable kicker in those games, their beloved Lovie Smith — who the four-letter still cries about getting hosed — would still be here. They’d be happy, and Bucs fans would be screwed.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:23 am
The kicker with the highest career avg in the league is Dan Bailey at 90%. He kicks for The Cowboys. He is followed by Justin Tucker at 87% and Gostowski at 87%. All of which were udfa except Gostowski who was drafted in the 4th rnd.
Wingo may have a point but f’em. Like Jay-Z’s famous song, licht is like “I did it my way”.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:25 am
@Bonzai- the uprights are the same width in college and pro. It’s the hash marks that are wider in college. And the pick will be fine. Some of you guys can find something negative in every thing. Sad. Licht knows more about football than you fella’s will ever dream of knowing. Just watch the pro’s and quit second guessing those you have no qualifications to judge. Stay in your lane.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:27 am
Can see both sides. Joe would have drafted a wide receiver or another defensive end. But given the Bucs needed points, Joe can see the arguement for a kicker if Licht truly believes he is that special.
Joe has written this many times, but most (including that knothead Wingo) overlook the mortar kicks that will be used with the new kickoff rules.
Wingo’s comment that he Aguayo would be the worst pick in NFL history is beyond ignorant. Even if Aguayo doesn’t pan out, he’s not even the worst in Bucs history, not even close.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:38 am
Um the Titans just traded the 40th overall pick from LAST YEAR away for some backup mediocre older o lineman.
If Aguayo plays 2 years for us and does just average he’s already better than the Titans 2nd round pick from 2015. It will never be the worst pick ever because much worse has been picked in the top 3-5
August 17th, 2016 at 9:43 am
Even if Aguayo doesn’t pan out, he’s not even the worst in Bucs history, not even close.
——————
Very true! I too would have gone with a WR. When he kicks a 60 yard FG all the critics will shut the he11 up.
August 17th, 2016 at 9:45 am
“I wanted to be drafted by the Tampa Bay Bucs and play in front of poster Kobe Faker, but Licht moved up to pick a kicker who never attempted a kick below 50 degrees”
Sterling Shepard
August 17th, 2016 at 10:12 am
Wingo the wingnut, probably his high school nickname. Just throw any opinion out there and see if it raises a clamor. I think he stepped into a fresh pile of BS.
August 17th, 2016 at 10:13 am
My most sincere apologies, Joe. I promise you I will never insinuate anything like that to you ever again:

Thanks for digging up the link D-Rome! Will include it.
Wingo was mocked on his own show last week for this comment. It was a full segment on TV.
August 17th, 2016 at 11:22 am
i really wanted a wr with that pick(tyler boyd, taj sharpe, sherling shepard) but i understand the pick….as long as he’s money from at least 45-49 yards including extra points im good….50 yards and beyond i’ll take 50/50….GO BUCS!!!
August 17th, 2016 at 11:43 am
You’d think from the article and comments that wingo was ripping into the Bucs. That was a pretty mellow “troll” job to be honest. Meh.
August 17th, 2016 at 12:03 pm
Jamarcus Russell is probably the worst pick… maybe johnny eight-ball. And those are extremely recent examples. You could have seen ten coming a mile away, and they are who we thought they were.
August 17th, 2016 at 12:22 pm
How you you possibly agree with giving up *2* high draft choices for a kicker…go back to the TOP 3 kickers for each of the last 4 or 5 yrs and see what round they were drafted in..Their is NO WAY to justify this as not being a dumb move..
August 17th, 2016 at 1:19 pm
F-L-O-R-I-D-A……S-T-A-T-E
FLORIDA STATE!! FLORIDA STATE!! FLORIDA STATE!!
Woooooooooooooooo!!!!
I’m a Noles fan baby and I hated this move in the draft.
August 17th, 2016 at 3:06 pm
I would not have traded up for ANY player, there were too much talent in the 3rd and 4th round. I would have drafted Javon Hargrave ( DT) in the 3rd. And drafted Malcolm Mitchell ( WR) and Pharoh Cooper ( WR) in the 4th. I don’t understand Jason Licht and his picks, they don’t make any sense.
August 17th, 2016 at 5:34 pm
I bet one of the picks taken shortly after Aguayo will go on to be a superstar and we’ll be chided for years for taking a kicker over him. Like people chide the Jags for taking Bryan Anger over Russell Wilson.
