The Man Can Catch
August 4th, 2016Dirk Koetter says he wants to get backup running back Charles Sims the ball a little more. No problem with that.
If you have been lucky enough to attend Bucs training camp practices, then you have likely seen the Bucs run a screen pass to Sims from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. The way Jameis throws that changeup to Sims, it’s one of the more beautiful plays Joe has seen a Bucs offense run.
Well, there is a good reason Sims makes that play go — and a reason why Koetter wants to get the ball in Sims’ hands. The man can catch the ball.
The PFF tribe has been busying tapping their keyboards and revealing an interesting stat. It seems there is no running back who has better hands than Sims.
In 2015, #Bucs RB Charles Sims saw 53 catchable targets 🎯
He dropped only 1. Best RB drop rate in the #NFL. pic.twitter.com/WOR2OeqfAM— Pro Football Focus (@PFF) August 4, 2016
That’s pretty damn impressive. Just one drop. Maybe Sims should be coaching Mike Evans?
So, yeah, the Bucs have a running back who is one of the best in the NFL to catch the ball. No wonder why Koetter wants Jameis to throw the ball Sims’ way.

Also CS34 is our most explosive weapon on offense!!!!

I love sims I hope he and the rest of the team stay healthy

@joe
Is that screen pass really more beautiful then the Benn’d around?

“The Man Can Catch”
To bad you can’t say that about Mike Evans or Ass-tin Sufferin’ Junkins

I wanna see simms running some.routes!!!! Theres our no 3 reciever just listed as a rb on our depth chart. Problem solution!!!

It’s funny how he’s suddenly looking like one of the stronger picks from that draft.

Sims is a running back playing WR that’s rare great job by Jason for getting this kid
August 4th, 2016 at 9:41 am
The majority of Henny Pennys on JBF screamed in horror when Sims was selected in the 3rd round. Apparently we couldn’t live without a guard at the time and choosing the best player on the board was sacrilege.

I remember his rookie year he only averaged 2.8 yards a carry coming off an injury playing in that offense with no real OC. Then, last year with a real OC he bumped that average up to 4.9. AND most impressive of all, n both seasons he has averaged more than 10 yards a catch. That’s hard to do at RB. Some WR’s and plenty of TE’s don’t get their ypc up to double digits.

When it comes to Mike Evans drops are really something that cant be coached.. either you have hands or you don’t.. most of the time it is a mental thing. By any rate i see sims having a great year!! LETS GO BUCS

I am so jacked for this season. Taking a lot of Bucs in my fantasy draft too. I can feel it. Offensive EXPLOSIONS!!! FIRE THEM CANNONS!!!!!

When Sims name is mentioned here, cause it’s all good, it makes me want to jump up and whoop and holler. Crank up Jameis and crew, Touchdown Tampa Bay!!

It is the Rachel Watson of football plays.
August 4th, 2016 at 10:49 am
Joe Says:
“It is the Rachel Watson of football plays.”
Does that mean that lovie’s scheme was the “Roseanne Barr of football” scheme’s????
August 4th, 2016 at 10:52 am
realist
even roseanne barr has more class than lovie displayed.
August 4th, 2016 at 11:12 am
He also has wheels.. He is a total home run threat!
August 4th, 2016 at 11:29 am
Sims was a LOVIE pick, because everyone knows (not me) that he wanted to replace Dougy! We need both you guys to be the best running back tandem in the game this year and I like that rookie (Barber), he has a nose for the end zone!
August 4th, 2016 at 11:53 am
Joe, Who will cover Simms if we line him up in the slot? He would be a great slot receiver and have incredible yards after the catch.
August 4th, 2016 at 12:28 pm
Like I’ve been saying for 2 years he’s our best slot receiver.
August 4th, 2016 at 12:28 pm
@mike cannon
Does it matter???? Especially if you can get a key block like the one ME13 laid out!!!!!

Lovie might not have been alot of things, but stating that he had no class is a real low blow.

Cross train him in the slot and put him there on first and second down. Humphrey is your slot receiver on third and short. Have your FB as your third down back who can run on third and short if Humphrey is covered. Your FB is a great blocker to help protect Jameis on third down or run out to the side for a quick hitter for a first down!

Love Chuck, I think he is one of the most underated RB in the leagues only because he is behind all pro Dougy fresh, soon the league will know exactly who he is tho, I certainly agree that he needs to get the rock more often with his mismatches in the passing game. I’ll take 34 over a LB all day. Loved the screen pass last year and thought we didn’t use it enough. I would like to see the wheel route more often as well. He was open for a TD on a couple of them but Jamies was off on the long ball all together, not just to 34. Get chuck the ball more n take the wear n tear off Dougy in the process.
