Real Football Returns!
August 11th, 2016There is a clash at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters! Some here celebrate the start of the preseason as if the entire crew of Bucs cheerleaders has arrived demanding an intimate group hug — but others sour and think watching preseason is chore and a job.
But what’s undeniable is that the preseason is back, and the Buccaneers kick off tonight at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
And yes, the Joe typing loves August football!
A poll of JoeBucsFan.com readers yesterday revealed 63 percent like and enjoy preseason, while 30 percent do not, and the rest are unsure. The nation is divided, but thankfully, it leans in the healthy direction.
After all, what could be better than a Thursday night of Bucs football?
Everything surrounding Tampa Bay has been one big giant question mark since the Bucs left the field of play in January. Seven long months of change and analyzing later, here we are. A few questions will finally be answered.
There’s real drama tonight, too. Will Mike Evans lose the K-Y hands and squeeze footballs? Will Kenny Bell squeeze his first-ever preseason pass and take the Kenny Bell Mob to new heights? Will the Bucs snuff out a slant pass? Can Noah Spence breath on a quarterback and leave Bucs fans breathless?
Stick with Joe all day and through the night. After paying respects to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, at the Liberty Bell, Joe will be live at the game and delivering all kinds of locker room goodies.

Football is back!!!! That is what is special about preseason. The games mostly suck but who cares! We get to see players on the field competing after months and months of no football. That is why preseason is awsome. Yesterday’s poll was too general to have any significant meaning. If you asked do people like the quality of preseaon games, you would probably get greater than 90% of people saying no. In fact the 4th game is a complete waste of time. Instead you asked the very general question do people like preseaon to which the answer is an absolute Yes! Simply because it represents the start of the football season.

As an out of towner I have to wait to watch the game on DVR from NFL Network tomorrow. It’s FOOTBALL!! I would rather watch this than anything on TV right now including the Olympics. Honestly, I would rather watch Ryan Griffin throw passes to Tevin Westbrook than the Olympic ping-pong finals any day. This is just the precursor to the wait being over.

Joe. I’m with you. “What could be better than a Thursday night of Bucs football?” We’ll probably get a few questions answered, but the most important to me right now is ‘Will this defense be a significant improvement over last year?’ If it is, we’ve got a chance for 9-10 wins. If not, bummer, we’re back in the 6 win category. Personally think we’re going to see a HUUUGE improvement over last year, providing we don’t suffer a bunch of catastrophic injuries. Our starting defense has talent … a lot of talent … and given a few games to develop the needed chemistry, they’ll do just fine I’m convinced. Only thing I’m concerned about there is our depth at this point.

Lots of games today. Licht and his scouting department need to be looking at WR and DT big time. No quality receivers after Humphries and it’s just a matter time for one of the Fragile Three (McCoy, McDonald and Akeem Spence) to miss time with injuries might as well plan for the inevitable.
I am excited that Jameis gets to lead his team even briefly tonight. Mike james will open some eyes on offense and spawn wil get a taste of a qb. Hopefully glennon lights it up against the insurance salesman and grocery store managers he will be going up against Dallas is watching Mikey….

How many Buc fans can bring up results of past years preseason games off the top of their head? Not too many I guess. I’ll watch also, it’s not like exciting though. Let them play a 20 game season that counts, down to regular roster size after 4 games. Who cares if the Super Bowl is in March.

DavidNigBucF..Please forgive Buc Realist. Anytime he hears the word Lovie or a post hints of his name, Realist has a bladder control problem. He takes meds. But they do not work.

LMAO Realist.
Why don’t they just skip over your posts??

If you truly dislike preseason, then at minimum just think of it as a televised practice against another team.

Here’s why I don’t like it: people start drawing conclusions about the team prematurely, as if wins and losses in preseason matter. Winning isn’t even in the top 3 objectives in preseason. What to accomplish in preseason:
1) Get experience for draftees and UDFAs to show what they’ve got in game situations.
2) Whittle down an actual depth chart
3) Develop cohesion within the first team and key backups.
4) Test out schemes, experiment with playbook
5) Don’t get injured
6) Try to win
So, it’s exciting if young players show up big, but outside of that I could not care less. I mean, let’s avoid getting blown out and looking incompetent (like Losie’s teams did), but winning isn’t crucial.

Realist the only one who cries up hear is you. Lovie whine this Lovie cry that. Lovie ain’t no where near the conversation and you’re up here weeping about him. Cry me Lovie river.
Trust I try to ignore them but he’s like that person with a cleft lip or any kind of deformity, you try not to look but if they’re around all the time you can’t help but to.
