Playmaker!
August 20th, 2016How bout that A-list, diving pass breakup by Brent Grimes on deep ball tonight to Jags stud wide receiver Allen Robinson.
There’s a reason nobody’s talking about it.
It’s because rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves delivered two interceptions that looked like they came from a No. 11 overall pick.
This was the stuff Bucs fans were dreaming of when Hargreaves was drafted in April. Here’s the happy video of both picks.
Yes, both interceptions came from the washed out arm of Chad Henne, but that really doesn’t matter. Hargreaves, who just turned 21, needed a night like tonight for his confidence. He hadn’t had a great camp, and he dropped a sure pick in his hands last week against the Eagles.
Now Hargreaves is making a case to take a starting outside corner job from Alterraun Verner, who was beaten for a touchdown tonight by Allen Hurns, and Verner was playing too far off receivers.
Big decisions upcoming for defensive coordinator Mike Smith and Dirk Koetter.

i was not sold on this pick but he is making plays. may the best player win. it’s all about getting better at every position… 2 pick game is impressive against anyone / anytime.

He did the same thing in college. I think he should get a look as a punt returner too, he only did it a couple times in college but I remember thinking he was always close to breaking one.

Grimes was beat for a TD.

Wasn’t it Grimes who was beaten for the TD? (Not Verner)

Yes, they were off Henne, but they were solid NFL throws. Just great athletic plays by Hargreaves.

Happy for my boy Ryan Smith as well. Although it was a gimme. Still popped his cherry

Why was Verner playing so far off the receiver? Isn’t bump and run his strong suit?

Vernon showed out tonight! Im liking that jit!!!! Keep it up VH28!

You’re the only one I have heard say he’s had a bad camp. Either you’re too critical or others aren’t critical enough. Impressive night nonetheless.

Veneer has been solid, had a solid first game too, apart from dropping a pass he was in perfect position to defend lol

Verner was strong and it was grimes that got beat BUT Hargreaves has earned the nickel fa sho!

True story Joey T. I have heard nor seen anyone anywhere claim that VH has had a rough camp besides these guys here. Every single thing has been pretty positive from multiple sources.

Verner got torched several times last night. That second TD drive, Bortals had is way with Verner. If he keeps that up, we will see Hargreaves replace him sooner rather than later.

Grimes still doesn’t get a pass because as others pointed out he was BURNED on that TD and all the athletic diving in the world wasn’t making up for it. First team play on D was not stellar and that includes Lavonte also.

VH3 played like a beast last night and I looked at that game again the d-line may not have looked good sack wise but I saw all the jags QB get pressured and if u look at all 4 pressure cause those int this team is in good hands
August 21st, 2016 at 2:37 pm
Move Verner to nickel?
August 21st, 2016 at 2:38 pm
btw, for the people whining about Grimes getting burned…Conte is at fault on the play getting froze by Bortle pump fake and not getting to his landmark…..mcdougal blew his assignment as well on the great pass break-up by Grimes on A. Rob.

Grimes played light out. If you really called him out it shows your lack of football knowledge lol. Even after conte was froze on the pump fake grimes still almost got a hand on that td to knock that ball away.
