No Trade Market For Glennon

August 28th, 2016
Minimal trade value now.

Cowboys calling?

It was as predictable as the sun setting in the west.

When it was learned yesterday that Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss half the season due to a broken bone in his back, Joe was getting Twitters about the Cowboys trading for Glennon.

Again.

At this time of the year, there is no trade market for Glennon short of garbage third-day draft picks. Maybe.

Why is there no trade value for Glennon? First, Cowboys rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has been playing like anything but a rookie. And the Cowboys have a perfect offensive roster for a rookie to thrive: strong offensive line and stud weapons.

Second, Glennon has not played well this preseason, which has decreased his trade value.

Third, in the next two weeks, decent players will be cut, maybe even tolerable backup quarterbacks. Why on earth would Jerry Jones trade for a backup now when he may get one free in a few days?

After the 53-man rosters have been set, if a quarterback then gets hurt and a team panics, maybe there would be a market for Glennon. But again, the way he has played thus far in preseason, his trade value is soft.

MG8 will be a starting QB for somebody’s team next year………..

……….and you can take that to the bank!

  2. Bird Says:

I’ll take that bet. That boy good he good. Mmmhhhhhmmmm. Good and terrible

  3. GoBucs2016 Says:

    MG8 won’t be a starting QB for somebody’s team next year………..

……….and you can take that to the bank!

  4. Bob in Valrico Says:

MG8 has to come out and play aggressively next week.It may be his last chance to showcase his skills.Unfortunately he has not matched his good play in his first two seasons.since McCown was injured he seems to be hitting a wall
and the progress just isn’t there.Apologies to my friend ,the tickrdr.

  5. BucscsQcCity Says:

He sucked hard. He even lost all its negotiating power with the Bucs.

  6. BucTrooper Says:

Glennon and the Bucs have been the perfect dysfunctional relationship: the Bucs are dumb for not trading when his stock was high and Glennon is dumb for playing like garbage and he’ll be stuck behind Jameis all season.

  7. GilArciaBucs Says:

Bottom line, you don’t trade the future. Glennon will forever be around. Simple as that.

  8. Doctor Stroud Says:

Or, if you are Jared Goff, the sun rises in the West (as we learned from Hard Knocks), a clear case of proprioception in my professional opinion. If the Jimmy Garoppolo experiment doesn’t work in New England, look for Mike Glennon to end up in New England next year. Otherwise, I would really like to see him stay as the #2 QB in Tampa.

  9. Walter Says:

Glennon will forever be a back up, and there’s no shame in that. He was a 3rd round pick after all

  10. The bucfan 88 Says:

I bet Mike will take cheap deal to stay in Tampa he just had a child plus he knows this team is going to be great

  11. jb Says:

    “his trade value is soft.”

That’s simply because other than Buc fans, few in the NFL believe he’s all that good.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Glennon is an idiot if he doesn’t try to resign with the Buccaneers. He just isn’t good enough to be better than a backup, regardless of what the national media thinks.

On the other hand, I’m fine with drafting a better backup around the 5th round next year…or signing a better one.

I know people will laugh, but I would love to see what Koetter could do with Tim Tebow as a backup QB. He’s good enough to win in a backup role, and the publicity would be huge. No chance of him taking Winston’s job, so no billboards will pop up.

  13. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Wow, that first comment amazes me. He isn’t even a good back up! There never was a real market for Glennon outside of the minds of the MGM. If he can get a long term deal to be a back up for any team he should sign it immediately. He looks like a guy that would be lucky just have a job over the next 3-5 years

  14. tmaxcon Says:

Glennon has played like ass 6 out of the last 7 preseason games he has sppeared in. Glennon has 15 fans in tampa who think he can start that being said 32 nfl GMs have known for a couple of years now glennon was nothing more than a mediocre backuo with a low ceiling. 8 is not good enough to backup Jameis. I am not sold on Griffin either therefore you can add qb to bucs needs along with oline, safety and Wr… the glennon fan boys can make all the excused they want their little mikey has sucked against lesser talent. I know it’s not Mike’s fault its unfair

  15. Pickgrin Says:

Glennon is certainly not helping himself. This is his time to shine against 2nd and 3rd teamers and earn himself a fat payday next year. And he’s flat out blowing it.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    BucTrooper

Nailed it…. licht blew by not trading 8 whike there was still a perception that glennon could play. Then the bucs let him take the field andbprove he could not play even against camp meat, ups drivers and insurance salesmen…. poor mikey just sucks

  17. Sapp, STFU Says:

MGM fans are clowns. He’s a decent QB. He would’ve garnered much more national press and attention if he were destined to be a starter. You can take THAT to the bank!

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Bonzi

Why would bucs want to sign 8 to backup jameis when he cant even separate himself from 3rd and 4th stringers in a no pressure preseason game. Bucs are trying to build a winner keeping mediocre and bad players like Glennon is why bucs own the basement the last 5 years…. cut bait bring in competition. Hell Glennon has not clearly beat out Griffin this year…

  19. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Thank you Joe Captain Obvious😂. After listening to Fridays game even Stevie Wonder can see Glennon has no trade value. To listen to one of the sportcasters that Glennon could start for some teams is laughable. He can’t even hit open guys against back ups. Who would trade for the Galloping Giraffe after Friday?

  20. iamkingsu Says:

They should’ve been trigger on Glennon. Or at least showcase him more with our 1s

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

Glennon outlasted Lovie. He will be fine as the Bucs backup QB, if needed he will not embarrass himself or the team. His detractors can’t believe he is still around as much as they protest. lol

  22. orlbucfan Says:

If all I ever played with were 2nd, 3rd, 4th string, etc. players year in and year out, I’d play down to their level, too. Period! Cowboys won’t take MG8, and he’ll move on next year. Not impressed at all with the 3rd string QB, whatever-his-name-is.

  23. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Its almost as if karma reach down and said “so shall it be” they were raving over Prescott’s pre season performance. We about to see what he really is now.

  24. Chris Says:

Lol at the outright hatred for Glennon by you guys. Did he take your girlfriend or wife from you? Call your mom a name? He had very good stats his rookie year with a shat hole for a team. Mclown was a veteran for years when he came here, stunk the entire joint up and still had several teams interested in him after he was ran out on a rail from here. If Glennon goes to free agency, he will have teams after him. He has size and an arm . Geez galloping giraffe etc, he’s college degreed with an NFL job, he’s far more up the chain of life than many of you are.

  25. Chris Says:

No way in the world I would take him over Winston, but man.. on the personal attacks. I was bashing Agauyo all week, but didn’t go personal with his looks etc. You guys need some counseling with your personal hatred of a guy who plays a game for your entertainment

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    Chris

Glennon has had every opportunity to impress 2 preseasons in a row and has not. He is a 5-13 backup with limited skills abd a low ceiling He plays with no heart and low energy which hardly makes players around him better. I don’t expect him to be winston personality wise that being said i do expect him to perform well when opportunities present themselves which he has not. Glennon did not play well as a rookie. Just because he may have been the best option on a truly horrendous team does not constitute his play as good.

  27. Doctor Stroud Says:

If the NFL accomplishes its goal of expanding the schedule to 18 games in the near future, a good backup QB will be more essential.

  28. Lunchbox Says:

The situation in Dallas could end up being similar to what happened when Mo Lewis knocked Drew Bledsoe out of the game and in came a young 6th round pick from Michigan. Not saying Prescott is Brady, but with Dallas’ offense, Romo might never start another game. As for Glennon, he may get another chance to start somewhere, but probably not anytime soon.

  29. Chris Says:

On a non playoff team, he put up numbers. 5- 13, yeah and Jameis is 6-10. Sometimes it’s a product of your coaching and team. I just don’t understand the outright hatred, calling of names of the guy. Tmax, there’s barely, if even 32 starting talents in the NFL. That’s why the big reach for teams to pick a Goff or Wetnz #1. Goff has not looked even as good as Glennon, playing with the first team oftentimes with the Rams and Wentz is injured, just like he was for a good part of college….. next Sam Bradford I think. Glennon will find work and battle for a starting job next year. It’s a lack of talent at the QB position that will make it so.

  30. BUC55 Says:

The demand for Glennon has only been in the minds of a few loyal fans who are not real about how he has played the past two years. Another nfl gm with any serious interest has not been proven to exist. Yes, he had small window his first year where he played fair. He has shown no signs of that play since. He is a decent backup nothing more.

  31. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t know who got the idea that the Bucs were interested in trading Glennon anyway. Wishful thinking didn’t pan out. Duh! The Bucs want him here.

  32. Chris Says:

And Tebow is no way an NFL QB. My lord, do you think you’re a better evaluator than the 32 GMs , coaches etc in the league? Man,,,,,, Florida college homerism never dies. I’m a U fan, but I’ve never thought Gino Torretta didn’t get a fare shot.Terrelle Pryor has far more ability, arm, speed than Tebow, but he went for the change to receiver. Tebows ego stopped him from being a fb in the league

  33. JonBuc Says:

The Glennon trade market is and always was imaginary. His play this preseason may expedite his departure not only from the Bucs…but from the entire NFL as well.

  34. SCBucsFan Says:

A big reason Glennon has looked bad is because our second string o line and receivers are horrible.

  35. Capt.Tim Says:

Glennon will be a starting QB next year. . .
In the CFL or the Arena league

I think he might end up 3rd string on this team!
    Hes certainly been out played

Light was listening to offers for Glennon, in the offseason.
    No offers of interest.

Glennon was never starting material. He threw 3 yard completions- to pad his stats. He never played to win

Sorry MGM, after 3 years- you’re still clueless about this guy

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Mike Glennon is a future HOF’er.

  38. Strider ....Sec 147 Says:

He won’t start next year that dude is gonna resign in Tampa

  39. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Must be not many here saying Glennon sucked in preseason actually watched the second preseason game where he arguably played every bit as good if not better than Winston. Glennon may not be a starter in Tampa any longer now that Jameis was drafted, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a good shot of starting on a different team next year (if he leaves). We are fortunate enough to have a guy with some NFL wins, who’s shown he isn’t a turnover machine at the QB position, and who’s still not even a speed bump on the team’s salary cap yet some of you want this guy run out of town yesterday? The way I see it we have (hopefully) a star in the making and a backup who’s probably equal or better than 1/3 of the starting QB’s around the NFL…that’s an enviable position to be in.

  40. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

And to answer the inevitable question of what 1/3 teams currently starting QB’s that Mike is as good or better than IMO here you go:
    (1) Bills, (2) Jets, (3) Dolphins, (4) Browns, (5) Texans, (6) Broncos, (7) Cowboys (w/ Dak), (8) Redskins (do it again Kirk, and I’ll believe), (9) 49’ers, (10) Rams., and (11) da’ Bears (yes I am actually saying Glennon may be as effective a QB as over-rated Jay Cutler).

  41. @eric Says:

I hope MG8 ends up 8nterest AZ and takes over Carson, MG8 would thrive in AZ offense and lead them to the play offs….MG8 to AZ take that to the credit union

  42. scubog Says:

I suspect that when Glennon hits free agency he will see what opportunities await. Unless there is a team willing to allow him an opportunity to legitimately compete for the starters role he will stay. Perhaps he could be on the “Should I stay or should I go” commercial.

I just want a chance to start.
    Promise me and I’ll depart.
Rookie stats sure fooled a few.
Let me show what I can do.
It’s not so bad here I must say.
It might be best if I just stay.
So tell me what to do my good friend Joe.
Should I stay or should I go?
