“No!”

Ali Marpet was smiling and wearing a floppy hat and sneakers at practice yesterday.

It’s been eight days since Marpet last practiced. He walked off that field just fine, and then appeared the next day wearing the dreaded boot.

The Bucs have been very tight-lipped on Marpet’s injury. And yesterday, Dirk Koetter was as tight as one could be.

He was asked whether he had any concern about Marpet playing on opening day, and Koetter said, “No.” A similar follow-up question evoked the same answer, “No.”

It’s been Joe’s experience that the “boot” means at least two full weeks out of action. Likely, Marpet will keep doing whatever rehab comes with his mysterious injury and he’ll test the ankle/foot next Wednesday.

The Bucs have their “game week” day off on Tuesday, and would be in full pads Wednesday.

One could speculate the Bucs would be wise to let Marpet have more time to heal, but that’s fairy-tale land. The Bucs have a Super Bowl mentality for opening day in Atlanta on Sept. 11. Hence, the “Start Fast” signage in the locker room.

“China doll” marpet. Get rid of him. He’s always injured. When was the last time he recovered a fumble and ran it in for a score in the fourth quarter?

I’m totally kidding. I love the guy and injuries are very prevalent in the trenches. Just making a little jab at the anti gmc crowd who say this guy is a cornerstone

Get well Ali. We need ya. Just like we need gmc

  2. Jason Says:

Lolol I was about to yell, that HAD to be a joke….lol nice one.

  3. JonBuc Says:

I’d feel better if $weezy was in a full body cast…at least then we’d know vs. assume he’s out for the season.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

I say let Marpet have as much time to fully heal as necessary. It seems this is the same injury as experienced by Marpet last year, nobody here knows the severity of the injury. For a young player seen as crucial to the Bucs future why risk worsening this setback by risking further injury.

  5. Dave Says:

My problem with the anti-GMC crowd is there a complete ignorance. When it comes to injuries, it’s the same thing. GMC has had his biceps torn from the bone and A significant shoulder injury last year. You can work out and train and be in great shape all you want, but it does not prevent injuries. Nagging small issues and pulled muscles are different. Being in shape helps recovery from that and some prevention.
But.. If a players arm breaks for instance … That’s just dumb luck.

    @HBC Dirk

You got me. I was ready to drop a wtf….

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It seems only the players fans don’t like are “soft”……

  8. Walter Says:

Marpet is charmin ultra soft, loafing around for 8 days. Get out there and work softy! What a bust! (Sarcasm)

  9. pick6 Says:

falcons run D gave up about 5 ypc last year and their pass rush was toothless. if marpet needs an extra week to get right, the falcons are a good opponent to sit him against

  10. Thibs5599 Says:

Koetter already said Marpet will be ready to go in Atlanta.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I see no point in playing him before the Falcons.

  12. Dreambig Says:

wouldn’t be surprised if Marpet’s boot comes off right about bed time tonight after the game is over.

  13. Kevin Says:

Joe is tonights game being televised? Read it was blacked out locally!

  14. DB55 Says:

    Kev

It’s supposed to be on NBC but I don’t see it on the Fios TV listings. If the game is blackout imma go berserk. I thought Obama ended the NFL blackout rule? Wth

  15. DB55 Says:

    Kev

Nvm found it on the Fios listings. 8pm on NBC.

Koetter already said Marpet will be ready to go in Atlanta.

We can only assume…..actually Koetter was asked…”Do you have any concerns about Marpet & Atlanta?”…..he said no…

Now, if that were another coach…..he could have meant he had no concerns because he knows he won’t be playing vs Atl…….but I don’t think Koetter gives lawerly answers….

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

    Still Marpets injury seems big.

  18. stanglassman Says:

So is it the same ankle he had surgery on in the off season? Did we ever get any details on the original injury and type of surgery repair needed.

Most likely it’s preventative (the boot) to keep the swelling down.

  19. GhostofSchiano Says:

Something tells me Ol’Dirk and Iron Mike Smith are playing mind games with their former employer. Something tells me Ali and JR will be both in action paving three lane roads for Doug and Chris. Something tells me I should drink another beer and continue to tune out the nagging wife.

  20. Lord Corn Says:

Um it sounds like he’ll be ready week 1 so this is great news right? Am I missing something lol. Headline scared the sh1t out of me

  21. mike10 Says:

I think he’s fine. I thought I read that he had a mild ankle tweak and that he was wearing the boot to be extra precautionary.
