Mike James Should Sleep Well
August 20th, 2016As Joe noted in his Gameday post, with Doug Martin sitting the game out, backup running backs would get plenty of reps to show their wares.
And Mike James did just that tonight. Buried deep in Lovie Smith’s doghouse the past two years — he was cut last year but made it back to the practice squad — James didn’t embarrass himself given the rock six times, primarily against the Jags’ first-team defense.
While James didn’t exactly make people forget Warrick Dunn on the ground — six carries for 17 yards, including a short-yardage first down — he showed his versatility with a pair of catches and a touchdown grab.
Unless James develops fumbleitis the next two weeks, it’s difficult to not see him on the 53-man roster. He has far more experience than the others battling for the No. 3 and/or No. 4 job.
