“He’s Going To Be A Dog”
August 4th, 2016High praise with an unusual analogy for a Bucs rookie — from the “Jameis of the defense.”
This morning, right after practice, Kwon Alexander appeared on WDAE-AM 620 to discuss all things Bucs, specifically the defense.
Joe will have more of that later, but the one thing that has caught the attention of the film junkie that is Alexander is rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.
Alexander noted that, yes, Hargreaves is still easing his way into the rigors of the NFL, but once Hargreaves gets comfortable, opposing receivers better look the hell out.
“He is going to be nasty,” Alexander said. “I like him. I like his attitude. I like how he approaches the game. He’s not himself right now, he just got here. When he gets in himself, he’s going to be a dog.”
Already it is easy to see that Hargreaves is a ballhawk. The dude is always around the football. Right there should tell fans he’s an intelligent guy who can read plays. If a defender can’t read plays, then he’s not often around the ball unless he’s targeted or teams run at him.
Joe doesn’t know of too many offensive coordinators targeting or running at good defenders. Well, perhaps ill-suited Marcus Arroyo did, but Joe digresses.
Joe likes the analogy of Hargreaves playing like an angry German shepherd. Those dogs are cool as heck and smart as a whip but screw with them and they will bite.

Every team needs a couple “dogs”. Wish the 12-U team I coach had a couple more.

i was not sold on vh3 in first round but i am slowly coming around. I’ll be 100% on board if he turns out to be a difference maker and a dog during the regular season games.

I got bit by a German Shepherd once when I was a youngin’.
It was my gf’s family dog. Walked 2 miles to her house. Took 2 steps into what was a very very long driveway. Then whammo out comes Cujo’s distant cousin trotting down the long and winding driveway after my ass. Instead he got me on the back of my thigh. Took a big chunk out too. Mofo.

Right now, Hargreaves sure looks every bit like a high first round talent.

thanks… I am coming around… i just thought there were better options and higher needs than cb. i was completely confident the secondary got tremendously better with Lovie Smith and his clowns cleaned out their offices. my not liking the pick has more to do with team needs than vh3 the player.

He got that Revis dust sprinkled on him.

As a rookie i would expect some struggles but sure sounds like this kid is the REAL deal. I cant wait for foozball season to get rolling. I LOVE the future of this team!

Haven’t had a ballhawking DB in quite some time. I am so excited to see what these guys can do this year on D.

I foresee VH3 making some nice splash plays, something our defense has been sorely missing for years! He is still just a rook, so I do not expect him to be on the field constantly, or, for him to play mistake-free.
I put way more stock in hearing things like this from Kwon versus pretty much anything out of a coaches mouth at this point in the year/season. It must mean SOMETHING when the “Jameis of the Defense” can’t help but notice something special about him.

So Lucky!!!! VH3 was only months away from having coach my scheme and friends and family ruin his career!!!!

Good read for my second cup of coffee…love that Kwon is reading VH3 play skills..gets me so damn excited for this year..More than many past ones..
Got to give VH3 time to adjust to NFL gaming and he’ll be one of the best..

Note To Hargreaves:
If Kwon offers you an energy drink, just say no!

I love Kwon. I need Kwon quotes all over my walls for life motivation.

I’d like to see vh3 return a punt.

Uh oh….are we going to hear a weakly refrain of “Who let the dogs out”?
Well the team that first launched that tune at RayJay certainly had some dogs!

No St Pete. We are not going to hear that nor should we. I do have first hand knowledge that durig our late Dec game they will play music that will feature the rendition of Jingle Bells by the barking dogs. That will be p awesome.
