“Don’t Be That Fan”
August 6th, 2016The following may unnerve the anti-Gerald McCoy rabble.
In so many words, the rabble’s wishes of GMC getting cut are being dashed this summer.
Gerald McCoy is totally blowing up. Who says? Dirk Koetter, that’s who.
The Bucs coach earlier this week noted how GMC is totally ruling the roost on the defensive side of the ball in training camp.
“Gerald McCoy could not be setting a better practice pace than he is,” Koetter said. “That guy is dominating in practice every day. When your best players are also your best practice players it sets a great example for your team.”
This brings to mind a few recent takes from WDAE-AM 620 personality Tom Krasniqi. In so many many words, he suggested the anti-GMC rabble rides the short-bus of NFL fans.
“Let me tell you something: in this league, you don’t make four Pro Bowls by accident,” Krasniqi said. “When you are a defensive tackle, you are not going to rack up seven, eight, nine tackles in a game. That just doesn’t happen. … I just don’t understand the angst. He’s a nice guy? He makes a lot of money? That’s what people point to, a jealous rage that people start to lean on when they are banging on Gerald McCoy. And I don’t get it.
“There are 31 other teams that would die to have a guy like Gerald McCoy lining up at defensive line. Just think about that. Don’t be that fan, OK? Don’t be an idiot. That’s why you get laughed at by everyone in the National Football League. They can continue to say that but they embarrass themselves. There are 31 other teams that would love to have him. STOP! … It is crazy to me there is this venom for No. 93.”
You can hear Krasniqi’s full rant below, audio courtesy of WDAE-AM 620.
Joe just knows this: If somehow, some way, the Bucs jettisoned GMC, the void would be felt quickly.
Joe always has to ask, if the rabble hates GMC because the Bucs have lost (in all but one season) with him on board, why does someone like Lavonte David or Doug Martin get a pass? The Bucs have had a worse record with those studs than they have since GMC was drafted.

Because most fans are idiots
August 6th, 2016 at 9:16 am
Stay tuned for the idiots trying to justify their idiocy.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:26 am
Hopefully this will be a big year from GMC as we should have more pressure from the outside. Time will tell if he plays up to his capabilities for a full season which is what we all want.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:28 am
JBF comments section seems to be the primary gathering place for “that fan”.
A very vocal minority whose negative opinions of GMC are not shared bv any respected NFL minds.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:33 am
Just think all the tackles and sacks without a good supporting cast.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:46 am
*Cough* tmax *cough*
August 6th, 2016 at 9:48 am
“A very vocal minority whose negative opinions of GMC are not shared bv any respected NFL minds.”………Well said Pick
Meanwhile on the other side of the Country Michael Bennett has been “unblockable” in practice. Man, could you imagine if Bennett hadn’t been let go “for no good reason” and were lined up next to GMC on gamedays?
August 6th, 2016 at 9:50 am
I don’t think anyone really hates GMC, kind of a strong word directed towards someone playing a game. Some dislike his play and expect more for whatever reason. How about I dislike that team, that player or that anything. I don’t like, don’t care for, abhor, despise. Hate is what a child says in anger at whichever parent spanks him, I hate you, well some of them anyway. Nobody hates GMC.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:55 am
GMC gets beat more than a drum. Running Backs fly by him like he is a turtle, stuck in this sand. He is a poor leader that has a following of one. He gets injured more often than a human tackling dummy and his football IQ is in negative numbers…Just kidding, ha ha! I was trying to use some of the cliches of the real haters to lure them out for our entertainment.
August 6th, 2016 at 10:07 am
Duke bout to explode he finally sees the pieces in place. I’m just wondering how many sacks would he need by mid season to be in the race for league MVP???
August 6th, 2016 at 10:12 am
There’s obviously lots of “that fan’s” out there if we keep seeing article after article and discussion after discussion about it.
Perhaps the anti-GMC fans have their points. No not perhaps, they do, because I’ve seen them here on JBF.
So this is just a wash, rinse and repeat?
August 6th, 2016 at 10:21 am
^^^^^he hehe he he^^^
August 6th, 2016 at 10:27 am
Once again I’m no GMC hater. I will however continue to say what I’ve always say when fans rave about him which is…
3 years after GMC retires no NFL fan outside of a Bucs fan will ever remember his name. That’s how relevant he is.
It’s true. You might even be able to do it now in an NFL city. You Buc fans outside of Florida go up to a random football fan and ask them if they’ve ever heard of Gerald McCoy. You’ll get a who?
I will never expect any DT that suits up for the Bucs to play on the same level as Sapp. I’ll also never defend GMC at the extent some of the fans on this site have. Because what for? Like I said he’s a nobody.
August 6th, 2016 at 10:29 am
Making the pro bowl doesnt qualify you as some great player, anchoring a #1 defense and getting 9 wins could be a step in that direction
August 6th, 2016 at 10:36 am
I guess some just cannot differentiate what a great player and a very good player!!!! Maybe some just watch the Bucs and do not realize what other teams have??? But their are some that like to elevate someone talent and potential around here!!!
Exp. adrian slowborn is a “beast” and after 1 good game some were calling for mason foster for a pro-bowl!!!!
And I am sure that “their” grand-ma’s apple pie is the best!!!!!!
The truth is GMC93 is a very good player!! and not a leader!!! Working hard and doing things the right way make you an “example” not a leader!!! and if you have to say you are the leader everytime a camera or microphone is in your face, You Are Not A Leader!!!!!
August 6th, 2016 at 10:52 am
I see significantly more ‘fans’ on JBF bash GMC than on any other site I visit. Personally think it’s just a vocal minority that probably sees GMC as the sacrificial lamb for all the losing we’ve experienced over the past several years. Many have said the same thing that Tom Krasniqi said: 31 other NFL teams would LOVE to have GMC on their roster. And most of those teams would probably pay him at least as much as he’s getting with the Bucs. I agree with Realist: GMC’s a “very good player”, but in my opinion he hasn’t had much help (to date) on the defensive side of the ball. This coulld very well be the year that he truly excels more than any other. As far as whether or not he’s a leader? As long as Bucs start playing some hard-nosed, winning football, I couldn’t care less who ‘leads’. The coaches and players know who the real leaders are, and that’s all that really matters.
August 6th, 2016 at 10:53 am
Just how good would we be if every player on the Bucs played their position as well as GMC plays his?
He has been linked to the Bucs losing…..Dominick, Raheem, Schiano & Lovie, Freeman are gone…..but GMC is still here…..so he gets the wrath.
The good news for GMC is that he no longer has to be the team leader….we have many of them now…..Jameis…Vjax, LVD, Kwon and soon to be Hargreaves…..perhaps others will also step up.
August 6th, 2016 at 10:55 am
Realist…good player. Leave out the “very”.
August 6th, 2016 at 10:56 am
Tampabaybucfan Says:
“Just how good would we be if every player on the Bucs played their position as well as GMC plays his?”
Not if we have to get the #3 overall pick in the draft to get said players!!!!!!!
August 6th, 2016 at 11:08 am
gmc from day 1 has told anyone who will listen and believe his bs that hes the leader…he laughs and aww shucks it up after losses and missed plays but then a real leader arrives in Jameis and he elevates the play of every player around him and the coaches as well, jameis is a LEGIT “that guy” … gmc is just a good player so far… hopefully he is watching what #3 is doing
August 6th, 2016 at 11:12 am
The burden of being the team leader is no longer on the shoulders of GMC. All we need from him is to consistently play at the height of his ability. Great things will happen for this team if he does so. And honestly he smile all d@$! game long far as I’m concerned. Just play at the height of his abilty.

GMC is constantly voted in the “Top 100” by his peers. You know, people that actually play the game. It never ceases to amaze me that fans actually believe they know more than the players.
August 6th, 2016 at 11:29 am
Lol–it’s even more pathetic when a commenter continues to be “that guy” after pointedly being called out for being “that guy.”
And if you even remotely think I’m talking about you–it’s safe to assume I am.
August 6th, 2016 at 11:48 am
So when the national or any media says something positive they are right however when they criticize or pick bucs to have 6 wins they dont know they are talking about… funny… gmc is good not great …. every offseason we hear how great he is and how this is his year then nothing but excuses and or injuries for a good season but not a great season. Perception is not reality.
August 6th, 2016 at 11:51 am
I cant understand why people take it so personal when another fan does not lije a player. Who cares players are temporary…. gmc will ve here anither 3 years or so then fogotten in another 3 years. 87 is right about that.
August 6th, 2016 at 11:59 am
I have dogged GMC and clearly would be classified as a “hater”. Unfortunately, I believe he is one that Jameis was referring to about getting their “why’s” right. Maybe his why’s are right. Either way he is a talented player we need and it is time for him to up step and get some dog in him. No more excuses. Some of us haters would love nothing more than need to issue a public apology.
Go Bucs!
August 6th, 2016 at 12:05 pm
Thanks for posting this, Joe. An informed writer writing a rant is always a fun read, reminds of when you posted Schein going off on those who were down on the Lovie dismissal. I also appreciated the post because it lured all the GMC haters out of their holes for exposure and enjoyment by those witnessing. Some of these comments, “GMC is only a good player, nothing more” have me dying of laughter. the real icing on the cake are the Bucs fans who foolishly believe that GMC needs to prove himself to them, as though he hasn’t been this team’s greatest asset(and at times only asset) for about half a decade. Just comical.
August 6th, 2016 at 12:28 pm
To think that only Bucs fans know who McCoy is, is incredibly naive.
August 6th, 2016 at 12:29 pm
one thing you can always count on from the defenders of McCoy… If you don’t think he is perfect or any type of criticism his play or lack of you are Hater. Instead of coming back with hey remember that 3rd & 15 in the 4th he tipped the pass and forced a punt, or remember that 4th qtr sack on ryan gmc really made a difference today. They simply drop the meaningless term hater.
Another favorite is all the pro bowls which are meaningless and nothing more than a popularity contest. and even dumber the list of a top 100 voting by peers who play favorites and hardly take those polls as gospel. If he is such a great player and a beast it should be very easy to come back with actually plays or game time plays that helped the bucs win a game. Surely in 6 years such an all time great should have 10 to 12 signature plays you can defend the haters off with versus rants of peers, probowls and good in the community crap has ZERO to do with bucs wins or team results. that’s less than 2 a year however it does not take in to count of the games, qtrs and plays he misses nursing one of his numerous injures but I digress. But serious probowls, top 100, popular with his peers, smiles, nice guy and movie night host of the year have never and will never win a football game for the tampa bay buccaneers. Anyhow, he is a good not great player. maybe this will finally be the year the defenders will be right and we get GMC first great season.
August 6th, 2016 at 12:32 pm
Well good morning you silly rascals. Ty for the love I never knew you guys care for me as much as you do. That’s dope!
Two questions, is Jaboowins “that fan”? And if not why the tantrum on week 16 pc? Why did he feel the need to “talk to” gmc? I’ll wait…thanks
August 6th, 2016 at 12:35 pm
The problem with TB media and fans is that they been bottom dwellers forever since inception and have absolutely zero clue what a real football player looks like. Not to fear this year Robert Ayers will show all youz wtf a real baller looks like. A guy who goes 💯 every play, does whatever it takes to win and absolutely hates losing. He learned that in NY where Dline play with a 1/2 hand that’s blown off. Here they sit for a hang nail. And cry about said hang nail for 3 seasons. Smh pathetic.
Don’t draft Jameis he’s bad.
Mark Barron can’t play.
Josh McCown is a good qb
Lovie is a HOF coach.
Dungy is a HOF coach.
Shocked Tkras loves gmc (sarcasm)
Trust me when I say this
Forget What you think

I have been tired of the anti McCoy stuff for a long time. It’s just time to put this crap to bed and give the guy the props he deserves. He has stuck by this awful team since he got here and never complained once. Now that we can see some improvement in the quality of players surrounding him, he is going to shine. We all need to take a deep breath and get right.
August 6th, 2016 at 2:00 pm
No one will ever know what Jameis (leader, captain, commander) said to GMC ( Sargent) because it ain’t yo business! SPECULATE on that!
August 6th, 2016 at 2:46 pm
I think most critics of GMC see the things he should do better..
Being a leader not laughing in the locker room after a butt kicking..Janis called him out on that one….
Pro bowl ok he has a few of those… Popular with players has one thing to do with that..
McCoy is good no doubt..But Great no way..Until he shows Greatness…
Jamies was tired for his BS that’s way he called him out in a private meeting
August 6th, 2016 at 2:53 pm
I think McCoy simply is in the unenviable position of simultaneously being compared to Warren Sapp because they play(ed) the same position, as well as Ndomakong Suh because of the draft positions. Both of these other players have more of a mean streak than Gerald and it’s seen as a negative. Say what you will, but I’d rather he be on our team than have to face him.
August 6th, 2016 at 2:56 pm
unbelievable…to think any different is being naive. I’ve already experienced it with northerners coming to Florida for a visit. They watch football all the time and have no clue who McCoy is.

Serious flaws all over your post.
First. I can have opinion like the those players have theirs… can’t I? Does that mean they know more than I do about McCoy when it comes to McCoy? Apparently in your mind they do, not in mine. I watched him play just like they did. They played up against him so they know more about him??? Is that it? If so see the second below.
Second. Like the Pro Bowl those votes mean nothing to me as it’s a popularity contest as well.
Let’s all not comment on the Bucs if another player says something good about another player we don’t think is any good. Because we don’t want anyone to be “amazed” that we have an opinion and hey they play the game so what do we know compared to them…
Is that your logic? Are you still amazed?
August 6th, 2016 at 3:12 pm
Serious typos in mine…
I’m not upset or attacking you, but you’re basically telling all of us to forget what we saw because hey the players know more than what we saw.
I don’t play like that on a blog site.
August 6th, 2016 at 3:20 pm
Ghost of Sapp. There are maybe 4 – 5 elite DTs in the league, you can ask for Suh, Atkins, Aaron Donald, but who else. Entire Falcons team had 19 sacks, GMC had 9 last year.
August 6th, 2016 at 3:26 pm
McCoy is someone offenses game plan around, and that’s how you know you’re a great player, period. Is it his fault teams took three step drops vs. us and we played 7 yards off the receiver, allowing QB’s to constantly avoid the rush while completing passes? Is it McCoy’s fault he was playing hurt? Was it McCoy’s fault McDonald went down next to him? Is it McCoy’s fault he’s had little pass rush to take the pressure off him last year from the edge? Maybe he sees less double/triple teams because of the pass rushers surround him now…
I know, he hasn’t taken over games, even after mentioning all those points above. Yet, the Buccs haven’t been in many games to take over…..so it’s kind of a moot argument. Provided he’s fully healthy, I expect GMac to have an outstanding season this year given what Mike Smith was able to do with his DTackles (defense) in Jville as a coordinator.
August 6th, 2016 at 3:28 pm
We could see GMac win defensive player of the year in the next couple of yearsas the Buccs grow into championship contenders…I am calling my shot now, and McCoy win a Defensive player of the year award in the next three seasons.

I am saying that if you interview OLineman who actually play football then they would ALL tell you he is a special player. ANY player that has played with him will tell you that. You have been sitting in a chair watching your Bucs games through Biased eyes and focusing on the football mostly. Saying that all of those players that vote him as one of the Best are wrong is just plain idiotic. It would be like you telling me how to build a house. Pure lunacy.

August 6th, 2016 at 6:51 pm
if he can string together another impressive season with ZERO excuse of injury hindering him we can start lifting him up in praise. Training camp warriors are just that.
I love GMC but last season was very underwhelming both in performance where he disappeared often, even when he was single teamed, and in attitude which JW even spoke to him about to start this season.
Hopefully he has an injury free season.
August 6th, 2016 at 8:25 pm
A Question.
Who’s opinion carries more credibility? – Realist, Tmax, DB55 and any other “those guys” on here – Or someone who actually makes their living coaching in the NFL like well respected current Bucs DC Mike Smith?
http://www.buccaneers.com/videos/videos/Mike_Smith_on_Gerald_McCoys_Dominance/34344a09-6cfd-4c10-bb29-42e628d55774
And its not like Mike Smith is going out on a limb here. Damn near every other NFL coach, player, GM and just about anyone at all who actually WORKS in the NFL – and is thus more credible than the few handfuls of “those guys” that want to constantly bash GMC – they will almost all unanimously use very close to the same words as Mike Smith did here if you ask them about McCoy’s play.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:05 pm
Only Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins, Suh, and Kwon Short were voted better than GMC for 2016 and that is the consensus of 700 PRO FOOTBALL PLAYERS. You shoe salesman and IT guys and McDonalds workers can talk till your mouth falls off. Nobody is listening outside of these pages and most of us are snickering.
August 6th, 2016 at 9:41 pm
Pickgrin…why the question? Are fans not entitled to an opinion on a blog site?
GatorBuc…I can tell you in a round about way how to build a house. It’s not lunacy if I’m wrong. I’ve seen lunacy trust me on that. As far as a Buc fan we’ve all seen lunacy. Recently as a matter of fact. Freeman is sheer lunacy. Now THAT was lunacy. My eyes don’t deceive me, I don’t know about yours when it comes to GMC. I’m not some hater. I’m a GMC fan. Not a fan of his contract, but it’s not my money and it’s really not in my hands as a fan. To me he’s a good DT and that’s it. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!
August 6th, 2016 at 9:50 pm
Oh yeah you and this “votes” crap.
These “votes” mean a lot to you for some reason. These “votes” come from all around…. from one source or another. They mean nothing to me. Empty rubbish is what they are. Votes? Eye test GatorBuc. Eye test.
Warren Sapp was great which is better than very good. GMC is good. Not very good in my opinion according to what my eyes have seen. Again I don’t expect another Sapp to ever walk through the doors of One Buc. So I don’t judge GMC off of Sapp. So there goes that thinking for anyone that reads this.
Disclaimer : Warren Sapp is my all time favorite Buc. (Anyone that doesn’t understand why, then that’s their problem.)

His injury history is debated by no professional.
Like I said. Let’s see how he holds up this season. Or if in the end the statement is he did this “but he was riddled with injuries”.
