“That Bully-Like Atmosphere With Him”
August 3rd, 2016Healthy turf-claiming is happening at One Buc Palace, and it’s riling up a few of the troops.
The longest tenured Buccaneer, right tackle Demar Dotson, spoke on WDAE-AM 620 this week about how free agent defensive end Robert Ayers is making his mark.
Dotson likes and respects that, but Dotson also is pondering hitting him.
“He almost got that bully-like, you know, atmosphere with him. It’s kind of like, man, when I get a chance, I want to take a shot on this guy, man,” Dotson said of Ayers. “You know, this guy coming from a new team, man, and trying to bring that bully-like mentality. But it’s good. It’s going to make us better. It’s going to make that D-line tough. And it’s going to make us a tough offense because he’s bringing it every play. He just wants to see guys compete. It don’t matter if it’s coming from the offensive side or the defensive side.”
Music to Joe’s ears! And Jason Licht has to be smiling, too, considering the Bucs dropped about $8 million guaranteed in his lap for this season. Ayers, 30, had 9 1/2 sacks for the Giants last year but was surprisingly allowed to walk.
Recently, Dirk Koetter remarked that he really likes how Ayers practices. Dotson’s description of Ayers likely is at the root of Koetter likes. The Bucs team desperately needs a nasty edge if it’s going to avoid a rough start with its tough early schedule.

Love hearing this!! We need more bullies on this team that when we take the field, the other team always know they are in for a fight. Keep it coming Ayers!!

Especially good to know that the Bucs have ‘bullies’ on both sides of the ball. Our OLine has several bullies (love that word, in a football context that is): Marpet, Gos, Sweezy and ya, Dots & Donovan at various times. Now on the DLine Ayers is doing some bullying (got a hunch Will Gholston does his share too). Our Tampa Bay Bucs … a bunch of bullies. Has a nice ring to it.

@defense
most every member of our O- line, including Stocker are bona fida bullies.
kind of partial the “bully boys” nickname myself.
on defense,i would wager clinton macdonald, Akeem Spence, Ayers and
GHolston all have a little nasty in them.

…….man, kinda shocked it was Ayers he was talking about.
I would have bet $93 it was that all pro DT that we are so lucky to have.
What’s that old Seasme Street song about which one of these doesn’t belong?

Kudos to the front office and Defensive coaching staff that recognized that the D-line needed a infusion of attitude!!! Its been severely lacking as well as Signing and drafting some players that can be more diverse in different looks!!! The Culture is slowly changing and hopefully the most around the D-line!!!!! The big question is how healthy the walking wounded band of DT can stay off IR this year!!!!
Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

Good news because the rest of the teams have been taking the Bucs lunch money for years!

Hopefully Ayers will set the tone when it Comes to attitude for this defense. I wouldn’t be suprised if he was wearing a C on his jersey this year. Ive loved everything that he’s said so far and has the perfect mindset going into the season. Good to hear there’s some bullying going on, we’ve been on the wrong side of that for to long, time to become the bully now. I really hope this team has more of an attitude and nastyness, we need more guys like Ayers and Gholston. we’ve been the nice guys for too long. And we all know that nice guys finish last.

Makes since to me considering I’ve stated on more than one occasion in two years we will be the bully team of the entire league. Jay Hayes ain’t bulls@!#in play violent or sit the h3ll down.

Good stuff Ayers!
There’s no question that this unit needed a little “edge” to ’em. As I said before, lets make teams rue stepping on the field with our Bucs again.

How can Ayers be a bully? He hasn’t beat up any women, gotten any coaches fired ala Incognito…he’s actually a great interview and seems to be a class guy.
A bully? Imagine that.

surprised GMC did not take his ball and go home at the mere mentioning of the politically incorrect term Bully. Surprised it was even printed in this pathetic politically correct climate we live in. Tampa has needed a bully since sapp walked out the door.

All that ain’t a bunch of bull either.

August 3rd, 2016 at 11:39 am
We’ve needed an proven edge rusher for the past 5 yrs!
August 3rd, 2016 at 11:43 am
Good to hear. We need more of that.
August 3rd, 2016 at 11:53 am
Gholston already has established himself as a bully – look at all of the personal fouls he had last year!
August 3rd, 2016 at 12:26 pm
Bighogheinous is right!!! And
We’ve needed a competent Head Coach for the past 2 yrs!
We’ve needed a proven NFL Defensive Scheme for the past 2 yrs!
We’ve needed a Real Defensive Coordinator for the past 2 yrs!

Love to hear this on Ayers..not a surprise though..I have followed his career since his days in Denver and Giants..he’s a pure class act, loves his 2 little girls, loves his wife, appreciates his fans but is a BAD AZZ on the field..
No more Kumbaya players and coaches!!!! Let’s get NASTY! Let’s be Bullies!! Let’s have that reputation in the league as the ones that hit hard and nasty!
Yeah I love it!!
August 3rd, 2016 at 2:21 pm
@Life- Well said. Teams used to not like playing us. That’s the reputation I want to recapture.
@Realist- “How do you know that he has not laid hands on GMC93!!!!”
LOL!!! You’re too much dude!
