Breaking Down The Bucs

August 20th, 2016
Peek behind the curtain.

Peek behind the curtain.

Yes, not quite a week ago, the co-hosts of the best damned football radio show going, “Movin’ the Chains,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, visited One Buc Palace.

They cut a video for Facebook for SiriusXM. Now, the duo cut another video breaking down the Bucs’ offense, defense and special teams for Kirwan’s underrated website, RealFootballNetwork.com. They also give a prediction on how the Bucs should fare.

Kirwan also provides an interesting tidbit on what Bucs fans can expect from the look of Mike Smith’s defense.

Enjoy!

  1. Defense Rules Says:

Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller both sound very upbeat about the Bucs this year (both predicted 9-7 which is a huge improvement given our tougher schedule). Both seemed very upbeat about our defense too. Not sure I understood correctly if they were saying that Mike Smith would use Nickel 70% of the time though. That seems to me like it’s quite high because I guess we’d end up taking a LB off the field (D. Smith?) a bunch. But maybe I just misunderstood what they were saying. On the special teams side, sounds like they were writing off Jake Schum’s chances of winning the punter duties (might be premature; he’s giving Brian Anger a run for his money I think).

I personally don’t think this scedule is any more difgicult than last year’s scedule. Lets take a look. Denver QB situation sucks,no way Sanchez comes in here and beat us. bspn power ranking had Seattle #1, I’ve stated they will have five new O linemen thus season. Not good the vikes were crawling all over Russell Wilson sacking him four times the other night. The cards will be tough in week two. At Arrowhead is always a challenge. If we don’t sweep the bird’s and saints something wrong. We’ll split with the cats. Any other team that dose not have an above average QB has no chance the pass rush is about to be among the best in the league. 10 and 6 at a minimum but I’m fully expecting something like 11 and 5.

  3. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

There is no team on our schedule that I look at and say to myself that’s an L. Our talent level is just as good as the best teams in the league. We can effectively run the ball,we will effectively rush opposing teams QBs and lastly we a have a budding superstar of QB. A prediction of 9 and 7 in my opinion just means you see the potential for a breakout season here in Tampa but are unwilling to say it because we haven’t amounted to much in quite sometime. Many of you do but don’t see an average team,I see bad @$$ squad. One that’s about to explode.

O line ✔(mainly left tackle)Edge rush✔ upgrade at coner✔ QB✔✔. How is it many of y’all can’t see we have the pieces???

  5. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Note; I never talk about recievers.

  6. SeattleBuc Says:

They didn’t mention Sims. I think Sims will catch even more passes this year. Last year he was very effective as a receiver and a huge part of our offense.

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

defensively the team has changed drastically:
There is enough talent at corner and DE that it will tough for some players to get on the field.Akeem spence at DT and Howard Jones at DE looked good last week.Guessing Gholston plays a lot in early downs.Ayers should start.
Mike Smith will have to figure out when and how to use Noah spence,Akeem Spence,Jaquis Smith, and Howard Jones.Did I miss anybody?
Same problem at corner, with Vernor and Grimes the probable starters on the outside. You still have Hargreaves and Barimah fighting it out for nickel. And Banks and Robinson competing for backup on the outside.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

@Bob in Valrico … “it will tough for some players to get on the field.” Nice problem to have for a change, isn’t it. (Still too thin at safety for my liking though).

And NoS-Bos, I like the 10-6 also (although injuries always play a huge role in season W-L records in my opinion … hopefully we stay healthy). Still think this year’s schedule is tougher to some degree (Denver and Seattle still have excellent defenses).

  9. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    You right Defense.

  10. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

    NOSBOS, I agree 100%.

This team is about to explode.

I stand by my prediction of a 12-4 regular season and then Superbowl Championship.

For the record, here are all of my official predictions for this season:

    1. Top-5 Offense & Top-10 Defense

    2. Jameis will have (at least) 4,500 yards passing and 30 TD passes. (Along with 5+ rushing TD)

    3. We will have 3 players with double-digit sacks and Noah Spence will break the rookie sack record with 15 sacks.

    4. Bucs will finish with a 12-4 regular season.

    5. Bucs will win Superbowl.

    *Bonus prediction*

Bucs will make Cam Newton cry like a little b!tch at some point this season. Lol

  11. orlbucfan Says:

The only concern I took from Preseason Game 1 is the depth at OL. Philly’s backups, etc. whipped our butts. Still, Bucs look good especially on Big D. That’s always been our strength throughout the years. Mike Smith jumped for joy when Koetter offered him the D coach job. He already had talented players to start with. 🙂 Since when do the Bucs get a cupcake schedule? I’ve been a rabid fan since ’79, and I can count the number of cupcakes on half a hand. Looking forward to the ballgame tonight even if it is preseason. Go Mighty Bucs!!

  12. stanglassman Says:

I just get a blank spot after enjoy. Guess the player won’t load on this iPad. I’ll just trust it was good stuff.

  13. stanglassman Says:

FYI no player on iPhone either.

  14. LocalJoker Says:

Had penciled in the Cowboys as a sure win. Gotta rethink that one after watching Dak Prescott. Need to see more in the next two preseason games. Not worried. Just cautiously optimistic.

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

That Kool Ade is still spiked with Bucs enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Everybody sees improvement. This ain’t no artificially sweetened stuff either, it’s pure sugar. I do think it’s a tougher schedule.

  16. rayjay1122 Says:

I am hoping for a great season. I was very MEH with last Thursdays performance overall. I know preseason is what it is, but would like to see some better individual efforts. Was really happy with the Defense though. Was refreshing to see a pass rush. I think this team can be anywhere between 6-10 and 10-6 so I will nestle in at the middle and predict 8-8. If we avoid major injuries and the team grows together and plays disciplined football with a lucky bounce here and there then 10-6 is totally possible. Go Bucs!!!

  17. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Joker don’t let that pre season stuff fool you. Dak come from a spread shot gun style offense in school. I’m sorry when it get real he won’t look like superman.

  18. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    37 why exactly???

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Who cares about a..so called difficult schedule. Just another plausible pretext to hide behind. Soft or hard schedule..somewhere enroute to a superbowl you’re gonna have to beat some real good teams. That’s how you get there.
We could be a better team this year. But I’m gonna be watching Mr. Pamphile real closely. He got beat like a drum last game. And easy money sweezy is at the bank right now cashin his free check. So we shall see. And whomever said 12-4 here, Please give me a hit of what you are smoking. I wanna hallucinate too!

  20. SCBucsFan Says:

I’m really worried about Aguayo. He’s missing kicks all the time from what I hear. Do kickers usually miss often in practice? Do they put them in difficult situations or something? Are the kicks from beyond 50 yards?
