Ali Marpet Gets The Dreaded Boot
August 24th, 2016Oh, no.
Lousy development this morning at One Buc Palace. Starting right guard Ali Marpet, who had a heck of a game against the Jaguars on Saturday, is sitting out and wearing the dreaded walking boot on his right foot.
From Joe’s experience, the boot equals missing two full weeks of duty — at least.
Oddly, Marpet was fine yesterday coming off the practice field. Joe talked to him (story here), and in addition to Marpet discussing his limited experience against a 3-4 defense, Marpet told Joe he was looking forward to getting back on the field today against the Browns in Day 2 of the joint practice with Cleveland. Marpet wasn’t limping after practice and was smiley and seemed just fine.
**Here’s a picture of Marpet minutes ago at One Buc Palace, via the @whatthebuc Twitter feed.
Stick with Joe through day for more on this developing story. The Bucs wrap up practice about noon.

Well we have Evan Smith as a back up
August 24th, 2016 at 10:27 am
Click bait. I thought he got cut.

Son of a …
Pamphile and Evan Smith as the starting guards is NOT what we need heading into this season of hope.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:30 am
Let it ride for now. Let’s hope that this is just related to the Coach being extra protective of players and preventing injuries. No need to be a tough guy outside of the season.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:34 am
I thought he got kicked out of practice for fighting. Anyways i expect Marpet to be ready for week 1.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:38 am
Probably the same injury he already had and was recovering from made worse.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:38 am
Probably not. GMC wasn’t wearing a boot after he rolled his ankle last week.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:51 am
we need all of our starters, especially oline, to be healthy and at full strength week1…I say shut him down until 9/11…GO BUCS!!!
August 24th, 2016 at 10:54 am
^^^^agree! Shut him down.
August 24th, 2016 at 10:58 am
Dang I hope he’s back for Week 1.
August 24th, 2016 at 11:07 am
Ali- take the next two weeks off and live in the training room.
August 24th, 2016 at 11:09 am
I think jason does a okay job @ scouting players
I just don’t like his plan on positions he focuses on.
Winston early on has to have the Great Wall of China in front of him.
We don’t need free agents blocking for this cat.
August 24th, 2016 at 11:11 am
bryan stork was just cut by the patriots….can play c/g….nasty attitude…he was kicked out of a joint practice last week and kicked out of practice this week for fighting…they say he has a nasty mean streak perfect for oline but has a little trouble keeping his cool….sounds like a buc to me…licht may want to look into him with sweezy and marpet down…GO BUCS!!!!

Thank god we have depth man. Right now we at least could still start:
LG-Pamphile
C-Hawley
RG-Evan Smith
I read Caleb Benecoch is healthy again. I hope they throw him in the fire and let him get some valuable experience these next 2 weeks because we might need him at some point.
Hopefully Marpet is still ready week 1; and hopefully JR Sweezy can get healthy enough to at least be depth and eventual starter later although I’m not counting on it. But at least we have 5-6 guys who can play the three interior spots for the most part.
August 24th, 2016 at 11:17 am
This stuff happens every preseason, why get upset?
We’re long overdue for an assualt, domestic violence or weapons charge BTW…….
Just saying…….

“I just don’t like his plan on positions he focuses on.

he has drafted 6 offensive lineman in the last 3 drafts lol
August 24th, 2016 at 11:19 am
Dang meant 5 offensive lineman*
Pamphile / Edwards 2014
Donavon Smith / ALi Marpet 2015
Caleb Benecoch 2016
I hope he keeps doing at least 1 every draft.

Very bad. Bank on him missing up to 4 games to start the season. With no Marpet, I just don’t see how this team will get off to the fast start losers need to be successful. Felt the Bucs could beat ATL, but with no Marpet, that’s probably a pipe dream now. The Bucs have depth, but the quality is severly lacking.

Two weeks would probably put him at ready by opening day…but we don’t even know what’s wrong yet, so no point in stressing over it.
Pamphile has to be the opening day starter. Even if Sweezy is healthy by game one, he hasn’t been practicing and I would feel better if he was eased in over a period of weeks, so long as Pamphile is doing a good enough job (and he has been playing better). Evan Smith is a pretty good guard when needed. Maybe not a long term starter, but good enough for a game or two. Our Center spot is handled by Halwley, so I’m not worried there.

Are you sure it wasn’t Roberto with the cast?
August 24th, 2016 at 12:23 pm
I read this as I was stuck in traffic in front of One Buc Place. TFR was trying to exit. Obviously it wasn’t for him but I still felt nervous about it.
August 24th, 2016 at 12:59 pm
It’s too bad we don’t have Tim Wright on the roster so that Licht can trade him for OL depth.
