A Pass Rush?
August 11th, 2016Joe swears he was drinking Coke Zero (straight) last night. Otherwise, he’d swear he was seeing things after a few cold beers.
The Bucs just may have a pass rush. Holy flurkingschmidt!
Robert Ayers, Noah Spence, Jacquies Smith, Howard Jones, Clinton McDonald, Akeem Spence, they were all flying around the quarterback if not dropping the quarterback tonight.
Hell, the Bucs had four sacks in the first half. Four!
Did Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice sneak into the Bucs locker room and don uniforms from the current Bucs?
This was very impressive, but NFL analytics guy Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times cautioned Bucs fans not to start chugging beer in glee.
I’m skeptical (surprise!) of #Bucs‘ rush. Here’s why: #Eagles drafted 0 offensive linemen between No. 4 overall in 2013 and No. 79 in 2016.
— Thomas Bassinger (@tometrics) August 12, 2016
That’s a fair point. So this massive pass rush in the first half could be a smokescreen. But you know what, if an offensive line stinks because a team hasn’t upgraded it in years, shouldn’t a decent defensive line take advantage of such a weakness?
Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy spoke about the pass rush at halftime.
“The guys are just playing together,” GMC said. “The thing is, when you’ve got a band of guys working together, it’s hard to stop when they’re working in unison. We’ve got a lot of hungry guys who want to prove that we can be who we said we’re supposed to be.
“If [the quarterback] can’t get comfortable, then it makes it easier on the guys on the back end. That’s really what we want to do. It’s not always about sacks, but you do want to get a guy uncomfortable and make him to where he gets frustrated, which makes it easier on the whole defense.”
Joe will just say it was more than refreshing to see a Bucs defensive line hound a quarterback for a change. Encouraging, in fact.

Noah Spence was ballin tonight!
August 11th, 2016 at 10:26 pm
Dahahha. If our pass rush was so great? How come we lost? So much for the great debut of our new Bucs under their new coaching staff. Looks like the SOB’s to me (sameoleBucs).
August 11th, 2016 at 10:27 pm
For me….it didn’t look so much as a pass rush than great coverage on their WRs…..how many times did the announcers say…..the WRs aren’t getting open…or, that was a coverage sack….
The biggest difference in our defense was consistency from front to back.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:30 pm
Joe..I agree with you one hundred percent…They looked good! The Spences..Ayers..J. Smith…McD..Jones..and it’s just the beginning with this group who are becoming The Borg! They think the same way! Get the QB Mutha Puckers!

Mike Johnson:
I’m going to guess you just didn’t watch the game? The Eagles scored off two turnovers and our defense was really good for the rest of the game.
It’s f*%&^ preseason. Of course we didn’t mount a comeback with Ryan Griffin throwing to Andre Davis.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:32 pm
Lol @mikejohnson.
1 its preseason, 2. They scored their only two touchdowns on their first two drives that they started in. 3. They scored a grand total of 3 points during the rest of the game and got almost no yards passing or rushing.

*started in the redzone
August 11th, 2016 at 10:33 pm
Someone must have watched the Olympics tonight. 🙂
August 11th, 2016 at 10:33 pm
I’ll believe when I see them do it in a real game. Defenses are supposed to be ahead at this point.
Preseason is such a sham.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:35 pm
Mike
You’re embarrassing yourself dude. It was a freaking preseason game!!! In fact by most reports it was a successful preseason game in that the team got to see some players and where they are.
#3 looks ready…the D got a rush and it also appears ready…we “lost” a preseason game by 8 points…after two turnovers set up easy scores and we miss an extra point.
I’m sure Mike that Koetter is really feeling the heat after that performance…Mike Smith’s job in jeopardy eh.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:38 pm
I can’t fault the Bucs too much, the overall play looked decent for a 1st preseason outing. Turnovers and too many penalties can be corrected. I give the team a solid C. That may be less than the buildup hype suggested, but I can’t back off the reality that the team is improved moving ahead.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:41 pm
As per Bucball they always start slow but once they got their bearings they pinned their ears back 1s thru 3s. MJ my man you’re over doing it a bit my friend. Koetter did a decent job and Mike Smith did a great job. Special teams sucked we need Joe Marciano back. Not entire bad for a scrub match. Jameis got off to a good start.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:48 pm
I’m stuck in the northwoods of Michigan’s UP and my Sunday Ticket on Direct did not work tonight. Wish me luck getting through to a human tomorrow since ATT has taken over Direct….not good!!!
So I hve to go on the reports of Joe…you posters and what highlights I’ve seen on NFLnet…
Bottom line for me is that it seems this game was a huge success. #3 got in some work…nothing spectacular..7/9 a TD and NO INJURY perhaps the most important part of this adventure.
But mostly we saw that Licht has to be really smiling about his moves to shore up our rush. Ayers kept up his pisssed off attitude…Dot can now respect Ayers for that mean spirit…and the “risky” pick of Noah Spence looks golden.
And we got to see the benefit of these two on the rest of the line as Akeem and Jack Smith and Howard Jones were all crashing the party.
I still say ten wins!
August 11th, 2016 at 10:49 pm
We got what we could… Receivers are inconsistent and our O-line is lacking. Awful refs in that game but it was a close one despite the score
August 11th, 2016 at 10:51 pm
Preseason games are not available on NFL Sunday Ticket.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:53 pm
Mike Johnson,
Honestly, dude, what gives? You, One(Wang)Love, and Big Hog Heinous may all be the same moniker flip flopping and trolling it up.
My question is, did Lovie Dovie have you on on his “Framily Plan” (staff)?
Welcome to the new era of Buccaneer football. We may not be good, but we at least have a viable NFL scheme and approach.
The fact that you are so entrenched to be negative towards Koetter shows your insecurity to recognizing he’s a Superior NFL football coach when compared to Lovie.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:54 pm
Mike Johnson
You sir are a damn idiot. That’s it. short and to the point
August 11th, 2016 at 10:56 pm
Gmac, MacDonald, Ayers, Spence, Gholston, Smith, Jones, A Spence… This D line looks like we have the horses in the stable all of the sudden. If I was an Eagles fan I wouldve had a heart attack watching Wentz take hit after hit like that. If our pass rush does end up being solid it will only help the secondary.. The arrows are pointing up all over the place boys I love it.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:57 pm
@ST. Pete
You can sign up for a 7 day free trial at NFL Season Pass……you can cancel after you see a game….I did that for tonight’s game…….that’s the only way you can see a game out of market….Directv doesn’t do preseason.
August 11th, 2016 at 10:59 pm
Classic Mike Johnson comment.

Now that’s funny. Go Phelps

Mike Johnson lmao you’re a fool. Just gonna start calling you ghost except you’ve got less talent. Stop posting that kind of junk, man.
Is it bc dirk is white? That’s gotta be it. I’m playing the race card. Or is it the reverse race card? I don’t know. When you make those comments it makes me think that you’re the guy..or gal.. who complains about transgender ppl using the wrong baño. Pablo is def not cool with you when you comment like that. And I’ve only met pablo twice. I think

Noah Noah Noah Noah!
August 11th, 2016 at 11:14 pm
Give it a rest Mike. What did you honestly expect from pre season game 1? Come September you may have a point, but not now.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:16 pm
@Joe and TBBF
Thanks for the tips on Direct and where to get preseason games.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:29 pm
Did not take long for Mike Johnson to fall off the band wagon!!!! Freaking unbelievable.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:34 pm
The edge pressure was consistentmy collapsing the pocket tonight, quarterback had to keep stepping up. Defense play calling in general was so vanilla, I can only imagine throwing in disguises and blitzes so guys are coming in unblocked. Whooo! Football is here!!!!
August 11th, 2016 at 11:37 pm
Super pleased with with our defense-damn-awesome! Byebye Kenny, good luck — nice kid but he put us in a big hole at worst time(1st play of the game). Fletcher Cox has to be accounted for by the tackle–Jameis just trying to get the ball aired out–not always his fault. Anyway–good learning experience–hopefully Jameis remains healthy–MG and RG not worth much. Russell Shephard needs more plays.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:54 pm
Definitely need to see more, but it sure was encouraging. We’ve been getting after the QB in camp too, so I think there’s real hope this year.
August 12th, 2016 at 12:11 am
Mike Johnson is a troll, and a boring one at that. D-line pressure was all I was really looking for tonight, and I like what I saw. I’m also happy there were no serious injuries.
August 12th, 2016 at 12:30 am
Spawn man.. Spawn duke gone be a star man..
August 12th, 2016 at 4:25 am
Not sure how its going to look after the season starts, but yes, we have pass rush and it was looking good….especially for the rookie Spence! Keep it up Noah!!
August 12th, 2016 at 7:12 am
Snowman – you saw the same thing I did. Very vanilla D. But the pressure brought by the D-line was solid. They didn’t let the QB’s get comfortable in the pocket. With that kind of rush, and having Grimes and a rejuvenated Vernor keeping guys covered for longer than the snap of the ball, I think this D will cause way more turnovers than Lovies turnover machine. What I saw last night brought back memories of those dominant D-lines of the past. Very exciting stuff.
August 12th, 2016 at 7:14 am
Hey Joe I gotta steal this one from you! “Holy flurkingschmidt!” Great stuff right there!
August 12th, 2016 at 8:03 am
can we not allow this mike johnson cat to speak i hate ignorance watch the game
August 12th, 2016 at 8:20 am
Yeah, Mike Johnson, go snort a dog turd!
August 12th, 2016 at 1:31 pm
Keep the praises comin to me fellow Buc fans. I love them. Yep, I watched the Olympics on Thurs night. How come the Bucs won no medals?
August 12th, 2016 at 4:52 pm
Our D is fixed except for goal line D—That needs more practice and will definitely be better when we get our Michigan State DE back next week who is a stud and a half and can play backup 3 technique to spell McCoy too! Our Offense and ST will get better as we go through preseason!
