Video: Touchdown!!!
July 28th, 2016Glass half full? Or glass half empty?
Welcome to training camp. Everyone’s on the same team. In the video below, shot by Joe’s A-list video crew, Johnthan Banks was tested.
It only worked out well for Russell Shepard and Mike Glennon.
Enjoy!

Not for nothing, but I’d be testing these DBs on slant routes ALL DAY LONG!
Good catch Shep!

Sluggo route got em.

Keep the glennon highlights coming joe there is still time for licht to do the right thing and get a player or pick before 8 walks with nothing in return. I hear browns could use 8.

Go Glennon! Giraffe those throws.

Banks gets constantly beat..

now thats a pretty route! man i cant wait for the season to start

Always liked Banks, players get beat, its gonna happen, I am confident he will have a bounce back year. This team will be VERY solid in Nickle and extra corner packages, and with all the depth, our veteran Grimes and even Verner (who is not that old) will be kept fresh.
It will be nice to have fresh legs in Q4 when Brees tries to lead a hopeless comeback victory only to fail for the 2nd time this season.

That was a great route and a great pass. Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Banks was beaten on an excellent play by the O.
Sorry TMAX you may dislike the giraffe but plenty of us here believe we have one of the best backups in the league. You want to trade a guy for a draft pick that has at best a 50% chance of making it when we have a QB that could mean the difference in making the playoffs.
What happens if #3 rolls his ankle again and is out 3-4 games. MG8 gives us the best chance of winning those games of any QB in the league. He not only can throw the rock he’s now experienced and knows this offense. Sorry to disagree Tmax but I believe Licht and Koetter think they have a pretty good team and not just a great QB. They want to have some security on the bench if #3 goes down.

@StPete- Don’t wind him up. I’m sure he’ll have something to say negative about the “Ginger Cannon”.

Its not about liking 8. Its about what is best long term for team. A draft pick or a player that potentially can help the team for 3 to 7 years is much more valuable than a backup you hope does not see the field. If winston goes down the bucs are done simple as that. There is no doubt 8 walks at end of the season. I respect your optimism but bucs are not going yo make a superbowl run this year therefore a pick or player is far more valuable for the future.

When i mean the bucs are done if winston goes down its not only from his play making ability. The emotional state of bucs would take a huge hit if winston goes down. 8 might make a play or 2 but i dont think even you will deny the emotinal let down the team will have without 3. 8 is no 3 anyway you look at it. If teams thought 8 could lead them to promise land he surely would have been moved priir to draft. Instead teams made mobes for sanchez, rg3 etc etc

Of course I accept your take that if #3 goes down it will be viewed as a disaster…from outside the locker room. I accept that is the conventional wisdom.
But you have an imagination…Say the Bucs are 5-3 at the break but #3 rolls his ankle and is out for three games. If the prognosis is pretty solid and we know #3 will be back…who will be cheering harder for #8 than #3? #3 will demand this team give #8 their best effort and point out correctly we need him to keep the season alive.
And so it’s not hard to imagine #8 winning a home game against the Bears…he loses next week against the Chiefs on the road but then returns home to host a tough but beatable Seahawks squad. A team MG8 had on the ropes in their OWN house until Schiano snatched defeat from victory. Beating the Seahawks at home after they’ve travelled across country is not impossible…again especially given MG8’s last appearance against that team during their Super Bowl year.
Now we’re 7-4…#3 returns…everybody is fired up…and he has to win just 3 of the last five to get us into the playoffs.
I’m not touting MG8 as a the next great QB…I do believe he is a very solid backup.

Your scenario is valid. However, is 1 or 2 wins and 1 and done in playoffs more valuable than a potential 3rd or 4th rd pick that plays 6 to 8 years. even as a backup position player one could argue thats better value than 1 or 2 wins in a season that there is very little realistic chance to win a superbowl. I say 9-7 this year 10 to 12 wins following year with a legit playoff run. Might as well get the future backup some experience this year. It is all speculation of course but id rather get something that may or may not work out vs letting a player walk for nothing. he will walk. 8 has made it clear he wants a shot at starting

Shook em!! Im worried about Banks, hope he has that breakout year I expect from him. Necause if he doesn’t he will get swallowed up by this crowded group of talented DB’s. Time to put up or shut up Mr Banks. Hope u put up, cause we nould use at least one corner over 6 ft. But that just shows u that height don’t mean nothing if u ain’t got the skills to go with it. I’ll take a more skilled n short guy over a tall but mediocre cb any day. And there’s alot more of the shorter guys in this league with very few taller guys being successful. Name another yall guy besides Sherman?? There isn’t many, that’s why.
