Bucs Add A Receiver With A Ring

July 23rd, 2016

KrauseIt’s not exactly a Roddy White signing, but Joe is pumped up to see the Bucs add new blood to their receiving corps this afternoon.

Tampa Bay has signed wide receiver Jonathan Krause via a waiver claim. He was undrafted in 2014, but he spent big chunks of the past two seasons with the Browns and Patriots (he’s got a Super Bowl ring), and the Eagles last year.

Krause has two career receptions — two more than Kenny Bell — and he can be a returner. At 5-11, 190 pounds, he’s run a 4.38-second, 40-yard dash, and he’s considered a smart and tough player. At Vanderbilt, Krause had two punt returns for touchdowns in 2012. In 2013, he caught 42 balls for 714 yards and three touchdowns.

More competition in the Bucs’ receiving corps is a very good thing, especially with Louis Murphy returning from November ACL surgery, and limited experience after Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans.

Ok. He has a Super Bowl ring. But as in Joe’s words. WHY did they let him go from these teams if he is any good?

  2. Lunchbox Says:

I think with some teams it’s just a numbers game. Likely the Pats and the eagles felt they had sufficient dept at WR and this guy happened to be low man on a good staff. Cleveland isn’t known for making great personnel decisions so they might not have utilized his talent correctly. Our coaches can do that. Wait and see on this guy, could could improve depth if nothing else.

  3. Lunchbox Says:

    ***depth***

  4. Leighroy Says:

    Gotta love those Vandy WRs….

  5. SB with Jameis Says:

Great QBs make average WR’s great! Not the other way around usually. Jameis will make our offense known. I think Mike Smith’s infusion of passion on Defense will make our defense known. I think it will soon be Great to be a Bucs fan again!!

  6. LocalJoker Says:

If at first you don’t succeed…..

  7. SB with Jameis Says:

I said that for 27 years before I smiled LocalJoker. Ah………to think we have a shot at returning to them.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Come on Bucs, this guy should be flippin burgers at Mickey-D’s!. 2 career receptions. Ok I get it..trng camp bait. There are worst things in life though.

  9. LocalJoker Says:

This seems hardly fair. Our guy had to shot to be let go. What did this bloke do to get canned in Philly?

  10. DB55 Says:

So some people say Humphries is a #5 or #6 receiver, funny cuz at Clemson he was #3 behind guys like Sammy Watkins, Deandre Hopkins and Martavis Bryant.

  11. DB55 Says:

We’re better off signing Mike Williams back onto the team. Mike would be an absolute beast behind ME.

  12. salish_seamonster Says:

This guy has less production than Joe’s favorite punching bag, Dontae Dye. This guy is camp meat signing.

  13. Lunchbox Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Mike Williams back here. We know he can be productive, and with Jameis throwing to him, he could have career stats if he can still run his routes.

  14. Kevin Says:

    Camp meat

  15. Stpetebucsfan Says:

There is only one sexy thing about this acquistion.

    4.38 speed in the 40

  16. feelthepewterpower Says:

I thought we had Bernard Speedy Reedy??? 😉

  17. feelthepewterpower Says:

Joe, imagine…we could run our small team out there ala Golden State in the wideout department…and slay them with speed…Bell, Reedy, Krause, Sims….all on the field at the same time.

  18. Buccaneers Says:

We got Evans VJax and Humphries(most likely). Room for 2 more. I doubt they keep 6 wideouts.

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

LOL, I doubt Jaboo will even throw a pass to him all camp

**I guess this confirms a fast forty doesnt mean sh!t without the other skills.

How many games will Evans miss with his annual Hammy crisis?

How many games will our 12 million dollar VJack play? 10 games?

    Need to get Bolden asap

“I wanted to be drafted by the Tampa bay Bucs and play in front of poster Kobe Faker” Sterling Shepard

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

I think he’s got a shot. Mike Evans wasn’t the only receiver with butter fingers. They all dropped passes that would have made a difference in games.

  21. Ndog Says:

I love how this excites Joe but he considers Kenny Bell, who knows our playbook, a bumb. Keep your drafted players, develop YOUR players and they will pay dividends in the long run.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Buccaneers

We will absolutely keep 6 wideouts….

Vjax, Evans, Murphy, Bell, Humphries & Shepard at this point……

  23. cmurda Says:

I find this move unexciting unless the Bucs see him as a Kick Returner. If we were looking to add pieces in the WR corps for the 3-5 slots, I cannot see how this is better than signing Rowdy Roddy White. Maybe there’s something I don’t know about Roddy but the guy is definitely a solid #3

  24. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

I know that you are mr optimist and i respect that sir but if murphy makes bucs roster they are screwed…. look up his stats and durability he is absolutely useless…. you are correct they will carry six with Shepherd only be used on special teams but murphy is useless and nothing more than another local feel good story thst will not help the team. Bucs need football players not bums who cant handle three liquor…local feel good stories have never helped the team. Fron shaun king to leonatd johnson all nice guys and good stories but horrible football players….

  25. Fsuking Says:

It’s funny how Joe respects a less talented UDFA on his 4th team more than a more talented draft pick in his first year of football. A guy who has a year in the organization already and shines when he’s on the practice field. At least I find it funny, it’s actually pretty sad.

  26. DB55 Says:

I’d like to see vh3 returning punts.

  27. Brett Says:

Lol. I’m not putting my money on Kenny Bell, but I would bet on him before this guy.

  28. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I like Murphy, but I think he might not make the 53.
DB55, I think he’d make a good return man, but I don’t think I’d take a chance getting him hurt.

  29. Tbbucs3 Says:

Joe throws in a comment to bash Kenny bell any chance he gets. You think Licht and Koetter are still holding two meaningless pre season games against him? Nope.

  30. Owlykat Says:

The more players to try out running back kicks the better. Murphy has better hands than Evans or VJAX both and holds on when hit hard and has speed to get behind Safeties and good starting experience. If he is healthy he is too valuable to cut. If Bell can’t show great production in Preseason this year we still need to sign Roddy White and take a WR with our first pick next year!

  31. Trubucfan22 Says:

Joe is “pumped up” for this guy, who has TWO catches in his NFL career. But won’t even consider giving Kenny Bell any respect until he proves his worth. What has this guy done in 2 seasons? 2 whole catches…. I’m not pumped for anything dealing with this guy. We need fresh blood, but someone with more than 2 catches and has held a job for more than 1 season would be preferred.

  32. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

Can’t wait till Bell shoves a sock right in Joe’s mouth this year, I’m so sick of the Bell Hatin.

  33. Buccfan37 Says:

Never heard of Krause, too many players to pay that close attention. Kenny Bell has a big fan club here, yet I agree he has shown as close to next to nothing as possible. I’ll be glad to put that mystery speculation to rest one way or the other.

  34. Dave Says:

Joe, you’re excited about this? This tells me they’re not too happy with Humphries, Bell, Dye, and Murphy’s ACL and if they are not happy with them, that’s not a good thing. Bringing in depth is important but somebody with two receptions in two years of service, not good

  35. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

At least he’s fast and has a pretty solid build.

With some crisp route-running and good coaching, he should at least be able to create some separation and get open consistently in the NFL.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Kenny Bell’s going to ball out!

  37. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Camp meat.

    Buccaneers Says
“I doubt they keep 6 wideouts.”

They ALWAYS keep 6+ WRs. It’s where we get the most injuries.

  38. Buccaneers Says:

Maybe they do keep six wideouts. 5 is just my opinion…….i just dont see any talent behind Jackson………
Humphries is OK but he dropped a few passes last year. He is worthless if we cant brag about his hands……unlike Evans or V–Jax who have other tools. Cuttable.

Murphy is absolutely nothing special……I respect his game and he is surely a guy who had to work his ass off to make rosters here. But when he is in games he gets shut down. Cuttable.

Dye Bell and the rest are all fighting for a job, most will be cut and never heard of again. None have ever done a thing in the league and have no talent til proven otherwise.

  39. godzilla13 Says:

    Jonathan Krause can return punts. Kenny Bell kick offs. Can we carry six wideouts, yes.. we can. Evans, Jackson, Murphy, Bell, Humphries and Krause. Evan Spencer is our Ace in the hole. Great blocker, great hands and hungry, like a dog with no meal.;
