He’s Got Hops!
June 20th, 2016Yes, Joe has written about how Bucs rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves can ball. The way he flew through the air to grab a Mike Glennon pick last week, Joe thought the man was Flash.
And this weekend, Joe wondered aloud why folks are worried about one inch from their new Bucs corners, Brent Grimes and Hargreaves. As Hargreaves has famously said, “If you can ball you can ball.”
We know Grimes can ball.
In fact, Grimes’ wife, Miko Grimes, posted an Instagram video of her husband jumping in various forms. He may be 5-10, but he plays like 6-3.
Check out his hops below. Caution: There is one very NSFW word uttered on the audio so you may want to mute your computer.

But what if the opposing recv also has a 40 inch vertical and “can ball” too? Ijs

Heckuva athlete the jumping up in bed was the most impressive

@DB55
You win some you lose some, that’s why we play the game. I like the odds right now of us winning more than we lose in these individual battles. And when it all gets added up I think the Bucs are ready!!!!
Wow….BG may be the best overall athlete on the team. He doesnt’ have #3’s 90+MPH fast ball but what a graceful explosive man. Look how effortlessly he pops up after jamming the basketball and ending up on the ground. And imagine if he worked on that golf swing. If I was an envious guy I’d hate him too MIKO.

Jumping out of the pool , that’s just nuts !!!

Joe man you are the crack for all we football junkies out here in JBF land. This is especially the kind of story I love on JBF.
Stats and debates about talent and strategy are all great but they are everywhere…your site does a great job of creatively augmenting the everyday grind stuff with threads like this.
You might need to put MIKO on payroll although I doubt she needs any $$$.

Thanks for the kind words St. Pete!

the pool jump was crazy… and the suit coach plant was cool too.

Awesome!
More, Joe & Miko! More!
This is the kind of behind the scenes stuff that is excellent for football junkies.

The Joes’ tradecraft is magnificent. Communications and marketing professors ought to make studying this site mandatory for Digital Comm (Marketing) 101.
Help us Joe. Keep us afloat during this long lull till training camp.

Friends, when I think about the flashes of quality play we saw from Banks before Coach my Scheme… Plus Verner’s play here in Nashville… Plus Grimes in Miami… Plus what we hope to see from Hargreaves… This COULD add up to a very special group of corners. It’s all about coaching and game plan at this point. Getting excited!!!! Go Bucs!!!

Nothing here…………..nope nothing at all!!
June 20th, 2016 at 2:49 pm
Let’s hope he doesn’t blow outa kneww with all the jumping around like that. Ala our previous two kickers. Barth and Gramatica…or was that the Cards Gramatica.
June 20th, 2016 at 2:49 pm

———————————————
Not too many receivers have 40″ vertical jump capability for starters…. None of the taller ones do.
I posted something similar to this awhile back on another thread talking about VH3’s “height disadvantage”. The same applies to Grimes as they are basically the same athlete despite the age and experience difference.
So quite a few people are like – Yea – it looks like VH3 can ball – but how is he gonna cover a guy like 6’5″ Kelvin Benjamin.
Well despite my belief that properly timed jumps and “want to” are the keys to coming down with or knocking away a “jump ball” – there is some math at play as well. Lets look at it:
Kelvin Benjamin – 6′ 5″ tall – 32.5″ vertical jump
Vernon Hargreaves III – 5′ 10 1/2″ tall – 39″ vertical jump
Bottom line – Benjamin’s 6 1/2″ height advantage is basically neutralized by VH3’s 6 1/2″ vertical jump advantage. Benjamin’s arms are probably a couple inches longer, but you see my point. The bigger receivers in the league really do not have a large advantage over the shorter more athletic CBs in the league who can “ball” like Hargreaves, Grimes, Joe Haden, Revis etc. If anything – the shorter, quicker, faster, more athletic CB who has a legit “nose for the ball” may have the advantage in a # of instances.

No corner out there shuts his receiver out every play, besides, it hasn’t kept him out of the Pro Bowl IJS

I jump out of pools all the time…from the top step!
