GMC Haters Dancing With Glee
June 26th, 2016Boy, oh, boy. The lives of some folks.
Ever since Vaughn McClure of BSPN let loose with a scandalous if not unsubstantiated claim that Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is a loafer, the GMC haters have been celebrating.
“See, I told you so,” the haters proudly boast while beating their chests.
Really sad, man.
This same GMC hater crowd has even grown bold on Twitter. Joe got a Twitter just yesterday from a GMC hater asking what the Bucs’ record is since GMC was drafted.
Now any Bucs fan, sober or smashed, knows full well that the Bucs’ record since Chucky was jettisoned has been outright garbage. A question like that is just trolling.
To suggest the Bucs have been a laughingstock because of GMC is a laughingstock itself. Hell, the Bucs were screwed out of a playoff berth in GMC’s rookie season, the lone winning season for the Bucs in the post-Chucky era.
To demonstrate how much a hater has to reach to blame GMC for the Bucs’ woes, the team’s record with GMC is better than the team’s record since the Bucs drafted Lavonte David and Doug Martin. Those guys have never experienced a winning season, and every year with David and Martin has landed the Bucs in the basement of the NFC South.
Every year!
So if folks are going to start throwing people overboard for a losing record, you sure as hell wouldn’t start with GMC. This just in: The Bucs haven’t had a winning season with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, either. What clown wants him cut?
Joe doesn’t know of any fool who wants to run David and/or Martin because the Bucs can’t get out of the NFC South cellar. Yet GMC is the reason the Bucs can’t win?
Please! Lay off the bourbon!
June 26th, 2016 at 6:15 am
AMEN Joe!
June 26th, 2016 at 6:16 am
Totally AGREE! GMC is one of the best in the NFL at that position. By the way, former Bucs d-line coach Joe Cullen, totally debunked that reporting.
June 26th, 2016 at 6:20 am
The Haters are full of $hit. I have season tickets behind the Bucs bench. I recall one game last season when GMC came off the field wincing in pain. He took a series off then went on to play the rest of the game. He had 3 tackles and a sack AFTER getting hurt. Players do not fake injuries. If only he had some support and a real coach, nothing against Lovie.
June 26th, 2016 at 6:45 am
Ya always going to have some. Can’t please everyone so no problem.
June 26th, 2016 at 7:57 am
Just play 16 games and show up healthy along with makes plays when it counts and all this talk will go away. The problem he can’t do that yet, collects a superstar type paycheck and gets love that has not been earned.
June 26th, 2016 at 7:59 am
Not all off us GMC haters think that way.
Some of us are simply tired of his soft play, injuries, and last but certainly not least, his lack of fire, leadership and his desire to just have fun instead of wanting to win.
Now, could you please help me up off the ground Mrl Softie?
June 26th, 2016 at 8:18 am
U ppl just make yourself look ignorant and show your lack of knowledge for the game. It’s sad because ppl like that make us Buc fans look bad like we do nothing but troll our best players because they got injured. What kind of fan base does that? U ppl are sounding like eagle fans stooping that low, maybe u should move to Philly with the rest of there filthy fan base you guys would fit right in, because the bucs deserve better fans then that. Only here in the Bay is there fans that ignorant. Sometimes I’m embarrassed to call myself a bucs fan because of ppl like that giving us a bad rep.
June 26th, 2016 at 8:18 am
Can’t think of a single team out there that wouldn’t want GMC….
Some “fans” have to have a player to blame their frustration on…..GMC, because of his default leadership role (lack of anyone else)…..high pick & salary…..is the likely player to be blamed.
June 26th, 2016 at 8:29 am
@Dooshlarue … “his desire to just have fun instead of wanting to win.” Obviously Doosh you’ve bought into what some in the media are peddling. I have no doubt that GMC wants to win as much as anyone on the Bucs (if not, he would’ve gone onto IR before mid-season last year, he wouldn’t have been a captain for all these years, and he certainly wouldn’t have made the Pro Bowl).
One of the issues I have with many in today’s media is that they read things into what some players and coaches say that really aren’t there. And that’s what’s happened to GMC I’m convinced. I’ve run into lots of players in the sports I’ve played who’d say “Let’s go out and have fun” but ‘fun’ wasn’t really what they were talking about at all, because losing isn’t fun. What they meant was more along the lines of totally loving what you’re doing … and working your tail off to be the best you can be at it. I too have had season tickets to the Bucs since GMC has been here, and GMC gives his all every game in the trenches. No ‘soft play’ from him in the trenches. If you don’t see that, join him in the trenches for one game.
June 26th, 2016 at 8:33 am
Bucnut2
Would that be the same coach Cullen who enjoys cruising Wendy’s drive thrus smashed and naked???? Talk about credibility
June 26th, 2016 at 8:35 am
What Dooshlarue and Ndog said
June 26th, 2016 at 8:51 am
Injuries cannot be controlled. Injuries are the only knock on the guy. Other than that hes a player any team in the league would pounce on in a heartbeat
June 26th, 2016 at 8:59 am
Tampabaybucs fan hit the nail on the head. But I don’t think you need to put the word fan in quotations. I have no doubt the Gerald haters love the team……IMO it is just easier for the haters to have a scapegoat, rather then just admit that their favorite team sucks.
June 26th, 2016 at 9:27 am
This team really benefits from the sacks that GMC produces every year. If you told me back when we drafted him in 2010 he would give us 8.5 to 9.5 sacks a year, I would be ecstatic.
June 26th, 2016 at 9:31 am
I like GMC. He’s a very solid player. But there’s still just something missing. I just want to see him go freaking crazy. Go John Randle on these guys. Just loosen a screw or two and be a freaking monster on the field. As good as he is and as good as he plays sometimes I’ve never seen him really toss his cool card into the fire and just get drooling mad.
I’m not saying the Bucs dont need him, I’m just saying what I haven’t seen from McCoy that I think we’d all like to see.
June 26th, 2016 at 9:35 am
Who cares what haters say. If any of you haters can play better, go in for a tryout and play better. That simple. Otherwise i know i dont give a poop. Go bucs
June 26th, 2016 at 9:45 am
GMC is soft for his position. Hasn’t played big in big moments….his biggest play could be last years sack against Matty Ice to end the game (watch the replay, he had his ankle and couldn’t bring him down. 9 outta 10 times Matty makes a play there). However, It would take a lot back to get rid of him. He is still top 10 in his position.
June 26th, 2016 at 9:54 am
as stated above he just needs to take the losing to heart so it appears to hurt him as of yet his bs smiling after the losing looks like crap… show me a happy loser ……
June 26th, 2016 at 10:01 am
I am thankful we have Mr. McCoy on our team, I just wish he had more DOG in him! By that I mean I want players who are not happy and joyful after yet another loss, the laughing and cutting up with players on the other teams rubs me the wrong way. Yes I know the NFL players have friends and former teammates across the NFL. (Save that fun for the off season) How would that have looked if Joe Green would have done that, or Jack Lambert hugging a opponent after a loss laughing and cutting up. It would not happen, why not?
Mr. McCoy is making more money a season than most of us will make in our lifetimes. With that comes people who are upset that he makes boocou bucs and is not always showing up in the stat sheets the way they think he should. I am glad he has thick skin to not let it effect his mental side of playing in the NFL.
I do not feel that Mr. McCoy is not putting in the effort or has any less desire to be a great player. To me he is. I just would like to see him be upset and maybe even angry when “his” team loses. And carry that to the next game.
Go Bucs!
June 26th, 2016 at 10:06 am
Let’s do Gerald, gerald gerald bo bereld, banana frana fo ferald, fe fi mo merald, Gerald.
June 26th, 2016 at 10:27 am
GMC-188 tackles, 35.5 career sacks, 14 deflections, 4 forced fumbles 79 games played.
SUH-218 tackles, 42 sacks, 20 deflections, 2 ff, 1 int, 1 safety, 1 td. 94 games played.
AVERAGE PER GAME:
GMC 2.38 tackles, .45 sacks, .18 def. .05 ff
SUH: 2.32 tackles, .45 sacks, .21 def, .02 ff, .01 int, safety & td
CONTRACT
GMC. 7 year 98 MIL, 51.5 guaranteed
SUH. 6 year, 114 MIL, 59.5 guaranteed.
Numbers are almost identical, hmm is cheaper, neither are leaders, one has suspension and dirty play problems, the other has injury problems. Neither elevate the play of those around them. I would rather have gmc representing my team personally.
June 26th, 2016 at 10:31 am
Listen folks can say what they want about GMC…I tend to go with DR and TBBF….but can we stop with the need to be a jackwagon bad seed to be a good football player.
The FACTS and HISTORY simply do not back up your point. Those of you berating GMC for helping a player up or being a decent human being instead of a waste of selfish flesh that is Warren Sapp are simply wrong. I guess you in that “nice guys are losers crowd” wouldn’t want Andrew Luck who actually congratulates defenders when they get a great hit on him. He views it as part of the sport.
And so for some facts…let’s review..
Perhaps the greatest DL ever…the fearsome foursome.
Two greatest ..Merlin Olson and Deacon Jones…One a nice guy the other a head hunter BOTH HOF!!!
The other two…Rosey Grier…Lamar Lundy..again one a Teddy Bear the other mean.
How about the Bucs own experience? The greatest Buc…either Selmon or Brooks… both are great and both are high character class acts.
In 3rd place…..a real asssswhole Warren Sapp again an HOFer.
So here is the bottom line….being a total jackwagon like Sapp doesn’t prevent you from being a great player but it’s far from essential and when viewed over time isn’t nearly a requirement considering all the incredible players who were also great guys!!! And they had fun!!! Having fun in football means one thing…WINNING!!! I want all of our players to have FUN!!!
June 26th, 2016 at 10:33 am
Gmc had a few decent years. Other than that he’s been average at best. I think the Atlanta reporter just assumed he was a loafer based on his failure to live up to potential. And if he was so hurt last year then why in hell did he play in the pro bowl.
June 26th, 2016 at 10:51 am
StPete-Good post, good stuff. I especially like the part about winning. The same folks who berate Gerald would haven’t a word of negativity if this was a winning franchise……This is closer to fact then opinion.
But this is a losing franchise. So fans want Gerald to change who he is. A better change would be to put a decent edge rusher next to McCoy. Or have a backfield that can make plays.
A rare critisism will ever be heard of McCoy if this team wins…..Until then his production won’t matter to the fickle fan. He’ll be a scapegoat til he changes who is his and dismisses his sportsmanship.
June 26th, 2016 at 10:55 am
In relation, sapp for his career averaged 1.7 tackles, .48 sacks .1 forced fumbles and .05 passes deflected. Sapp was far superior at forcing fumbles gmc gets more tackles, sacks are similar (sapp had some bad years late in Oakland) and gmc gets mor deflections. Remember, these are compared to a first ballot hof’er. The big difference is leadership ability between the 2. According to the numbers at least, and numbers are probably skewed a little due to the game changing to a more pass happy game. (Sapp had less opportunities for sacks, but more opportunities for tackles imo)
June 26th, 2016 at 10:58 am
McCoy’s statement about his only winning season being his least favorite is all you need to know to understand his priorities which are cashing checks and TV time. Throw in the way he pouted away from team when Jameis was pumping up his teammates that also says volumes about his priorities
June 26th, 2016 at 11:10 am
take gmc off the bucs past 5 years what would the record be? he will never be like jameis who hates losing and you see that in jameis’s demeanor and work ethic total oposite in alpearance from gmc
June 26th, 2016 at 11:12 am
Tmax- respectfully, I completely disagree with that sentiment. All that matters is production. The people that defend SUH (I compare the 2 most often because they play same position, drafted same year #2-3) say it doesn’t matter that he has a bad attitude, does dumb things off the field (and between the whistles). All that matters is production. So a guy kicks and stomps on player and it doesn’t matter, but a guy helps someone up and he is weak. And I’ve been to a lion’s game, pregame suh has terrible body language. Last through drills. When the whole team huddled and did their speech he wasn’t even there. Sitting talking to a coach.
June 26th, 2016 at 11:28 am
Mojiska
I was not comparing GMC to Suh I was using McCoy’s own statement to prove he does not care about winning. Some on this site post winning cures all which I do agree with but in McCoy’s case winning is not important having fun, cashing checks and TV time are his priorities. I’d take a Warren Sapp or Suh personality over a passive mccoy personality on my football team every day of week and twice on Sundays. They are paid to win. Nothing else matters.
June 26th, 2016 at 11:31 am
Nobody cares about this crap. Lets WIN some GD games! I’m tired of being one of the..laughing stock teams in the NFL. Lets kick some A..! Win the division , get to the playoffs and bring home that trophy. All this other stuff is straight up sewer soup.
June 26th, 2016 at 12:16 pm
Bucs have a losing record with Jameis Winston so I guess he sucks…
…NOT!
June 26th, 2016 at 12:16 pm
Tmax- if I remember correctly, the quote of his only winning year being his least favorite is kinda being taken out of context. He was talking about the teams attitude towards rookies and what he had to go through. How was also talking about not wanting to put the current rookies in those situations because it was a bad experience for him. He wasn’t saying that he didn’t like winning, more that he didn’t like the way they as rookies were being handled. You may see it differently, but to me that’s completely understandable.
June 26th, 2016 at 12:21 pm
Mojiska your first post is spot on my friend! St. Pete too!
tmax hates GMC for saying his first season wasn’t fun… Maybe cuz he was injured and didn’t play? Gee, how weird for someone to say they didn’t enjoy sitting on the bench injured all season… haters gonna hate tho
June 26th, 2016 at 1:05 pm
Tax-Come on bro. That quote doesn’t prove anything. Gelarld does everything he can to help this team including playing through injury.
You are questioning the mans integrity which is fine…..but please do so with respect and clarify that these are your own personal opinions and not facts.
June 26th, 2016 at 1:06 pm
unbelievable
I don’t hate GMC just not willing to give him a free pass for his lack of impact plays. He is a good but not great player who accepts losing way to easy.
June 26th, 2016 at 1:21 pm
I was at the game last year in Houston in which GMC came running off of the field, writhing in agony on the ground while grabbing the same shoulder that he hurt the week before at the end of the Saints game. I was in the FIFTH level and could hear him screaming!! As a doctor, I told my friends “he’s done for the year”, because i just knew it was a torn rotator cuff, which is actually more painful than most bone breaks. Not only did he return to THAT game, but he played most of the season, made the Pro Bowl (again), and was named to the Top 100 (again)!! GMC is a BADASS that we are lucky to have. Hopefully, with better talent around him and a year of good health, he will show the NFL and the world the monster that he is!! When healthy, he IS a great player who impacts the opposing team in many ways! Go Bucs and go GMC!! Shut up the doubters this year!!
June 26th, 2016 at 1:29 pm
Tmaxx is right.
McCoy is too comfortable losing. He was supposed to be a leader on this team he is Not.
McCoy is a good player no doubt..
McCoy is not a Great Player period
June 26th, 2016 at 1:37 pm
Everyone remember last year when Jamies was mad about players in the locker room laughing and talking about vacation? I wonder who it was?
June 26th, 2016 at 1:50 pm
Buc fans don’t have any personal hate for any player, they mostly HATE the ENTIRE ROTTEN team. GMC is the focus of the hate, because he’s always smiling after a beat down. NO ONE loves a LOSER, that’s life ( deal with it). If you’re tired of the HATE, then start WINNING some football games. 5 YEARS as THE BOTTOM FEEDER of the NFC SOUTH and people actually suppose to LOVE YOU. Wake up and come back to REALITY.
June 26th, 2016 at 1:56 pm
LakeLandBuc….I approve of that message.
Great post!
June 26th, 2016 at 2:36 pm
Let us start with Joe defense of GMC in which Joe claims that GMC was cheated out of a playoff. GMC did not finish the season. He did not play in the Ravens game that year because he was injured. He was out for 3 games that year Joe with injury and he only had 3 sacks. Now let us address the issues with David and Martin. David’s Play on the field has been impressive.

He was out for 3 games that year Joe with injury and he only had 3 sacks. Now let us address the issues with David and Martin. David’s Play on the field has been impressive. David has missed to games in his career. David makes plays, and he does not get paid like JJ Watts. Are you saying Joe that GMC play has been as effective as David? As far as Martin is concerned, he has been injured a lot by common standards. I do not blame him; I blame the rock head Schiano. But, I would drop Martin like a hot potato if only I could have Delvin Cook from FSU. GMC is lazy Joe that is why he is always hurt. I watch the games on Sundays and see offensive linemen throwing him to the ground.
June 26th, 2016 at 2:56 pm
I never liked GMC, all their vehicles suck.
June 26th, 2016 at 2:56 pm
One of the baddest Defensive in the history is Reggie White, the minister of defense, beast on the field, not even close to that off of it, but I could pretty much bet, if he didn’t have Brett Favre, He would’ve been a great player on a bad team.
June 26th, 2016 at 4:30 pm
Joe, I’d love to see the Buccs bring Chucky back in for a motivational pep talk!
June 26th, 2016 at 4:42 pm
Yeah maybe he isn’t the reason why they don’t win but he certainly hasn’t been the reason they do win either.
June 26th, 2016 at 4:54 pm
Tmax- you don’t want to give him a pass for his lack of big plays, and want suh twice on Sunday’s, yet their stats are nearly identical on a per game status. And suh gets 10 MIL more on 1 less year. I understand you have a right to an opinion, but just come out and say you don’t like him because he has been hurt or he is too nice, and you would rather have an asshole who has the same impact and is paid more instead. No he isn’t a leader, no he doesn’t make others better. But he is doing his job very well, much better than most others at his position and the team only has 4-5 guys you can say that about right now. It also helps a lot that he is a standout in the community and a great role model for my 4 year old and 2 year old. If you hate the guy for being nice that’s fine, but at least be a man and admit your true trainings, don’t bring out made up “not impactful” baloney into it. He is what he is, a solid top 5-10 d tackle in the league that is not a leader and is paid for what he does.
June 26th, 2016 at 5:33 pm
And we also happen to have a better record when he plays VR when he doesn’t. 29-50 playing vs 4-13 not playing. That’s fairly significant.
June 26th, 2016 at 5:38 pm
OK reading this thread we all agree.
GMC is no Sapp. No he’s not the next coming of “mean Joe” Greene.
There is a LOT of room between not being an all time great and simply good.
Right now GMC is DEFINITELY a good DT worth his money. See Suh’s production up higher.
Can he be great…it has to start this year. If the DL possibilities all blossom…and both the Spences play lights out…GMC may put up some great stats. Time will tell. He’s not had a great career but he’s already put up very good numbers.
June 26th, 2016 at 5:47 pm
4-12, 7-9, 4-12, 2-14, 6-10 are the only NUMBERS that Bucs fans care about!
June 26th, 2016 at 6:05 pm
Well said st pete
June 27th, 2016 at 7:44 am
IT is not GMC’s fault that he didn’t have the luxury of playing alongside
11 good to great defensive players like in 2002. it takes at least 11 players to play good defense There was no Ronde Barber,Simeon Rice,John Lynch,Brian Kelly,Dexter Jackson,Greg Spires or Derrick brooks on the 2015 team. Lavonte David,GMC and the emerging Kwan Alexander needed more help and a coach to put the right players in position to make plays. In 2002 the DE’s ends combined for 19 sacks.Corners had 10 interceptions.Safeties had 6 INT’s.Sapp only had 7.5 sacks in 2002 but if he made a push up the middle you could bet
the DE’s would benefit.
GMC can make push and there will finally be more quality players. around him.
