Respect Flows From Carolina
June 6th, 2016Yes, the Panthers abused the Buccaneers twice last season. It was humiliating.
The Falcons? They snapped the Panthers’ 14-0 record last season with a 20-13 victory.
The Saints? Carolina beat them twice by a combined total of eight points.
The Bucs? The Panthers’ margin of victory in two games was a whopping 32 points.
But despite these facts, hardcore Panthers fans are in the Bucs’ corner. As part of Joe’s regular education on all things NFL, Joe reads the excellent BlackandBlueReview.com, which dives into all things Panthers as a fully credentialed media outlet.
A new poll on the site asks, “Which team has the best chance to dethrone the Panthers in the NFC South?”
Surprisingly, the Bucs are leading with 46 percent of the vote. Atlanta is at 41 percent. The Saints got 13 percent. Keep in mind the Bucs haven’t beaten Carolina since 2012.
The human analysts continue to believe in Tampa Bay. Add Panthers fans to the ranks of Kurt Warner, Jason La Canfora, J.P. Peterson and Chucky.
June 6th, 2016 at 4:16 pm
Wow. Even Panthers fans know that The Incompetent one stunk!!!!! I bet they are sad the way we were sad when the Falcons the Duo of Jim Mora Jr and Rich McKay when they ran that franchise into the ground!!!!
June 6th, 2016 at 4:36 pm
The pundits are once again touting the Saints as being the ones to possibly dethrone the Panthers but in spite of the results of losses to the Panthers over the years. As a Panthers fan I think the Bucs have the best shot. Largely because I Jameis will grow even more and I think the defense has improved. Good Luck, Bucs!
June 6th, 2016 at 4:47 pm
No one is dethroning the panthers this year.
June 6th, 2016 at 4:47 pm
Hey, you have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to realize Tampa has talent on their roster. Sometimes you gotta take the homer glasses off and truly analyze a team.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:01 pm
Oh great, respect from Panther fans……That team has owned us for 15 years now. In reality their fans are just hoping we are their biggest challenge. They don’t have respect, they see the Bucs as a doormat…..Go back over the last 5 years and watch every game we’ve played against them and tell me I’m wrong.

The Buc Realist
Ok Buddy you’ve got two years of Lovie Smith Bashing.
Your Pass will expire – the momemnt the Clock stikes Midnight 2018
Than yon can lay that crux down next to – Bennett, Perkins, Williamson, and Schiano.
Note: You deserve at least that – For the direspect you recieved.
From several posters – because of your views against his regime.

Lovie is gone…..fired….Glazers & Licht got rid of him…..he is history for most of us…..
I sometimes wonder if the Realist has an X wife/husband/partner that he continues to bash long after the breakup…..
June 6th, 2016 at 5:25 pm
Luv…at least he’s moved on from Dom.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:26 pm
Realist get a clue. You’re a knee jerk fan it’s Obvisous. If this team had been run by incompetence for the last two year there would be only one result…….we would still be a horrible football team and we would be rebuilding. Do you think we are rebuilding?
I just posted this same comment in another article, but it applies here also.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:27 pm
Carolina is not that great of a team, they are just blessed to play in the WORST division in the NFL. Any team in the NFC South can dethrone them, they are not that fall apart. The Saints and Falcons had better coaching than the Bucs last season, even my high school ( Lakeland High) had better coaching than the Bucs did in 2015. The teams are close in the NFC South, as far as players. But it comes down to coaching, the Bucs coaching should be a thousand times better this season.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:28 pm
Turnovers and not getting off of the field on 3rd down killed us against the Panthers. An improved Winston and better defensive players/ game plan should close the gap with them this season.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:31 pm
Realist doesnt have a clue, he’s a kneejerkfan. Thank God his idea of incompetence is not the textbook definition….if that were true we are still a horrible team and still rebuilding.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:32 pm
Whoops, didn’t mean to have multiple duplicates. I’m an incompetent internet user….sorry yall
June 6th, 2016 at 5:36 pm
Buccaneers has been drinking today! Good for you! Me too!😛
June 6th, 2016 at 5:41 pm
What a laugh. I hear someone hear says Carolina is not that good of a team. When a team has dominated you for a few seasons in this NFL? Yes, they are a good team and a better team than you are. Simply put..the Panthers made it all the way to the superbowl this past season. And we? made it all the way to the bottom of the NFlL Hope we can change this. Your next witness..counsel.
June 6th, 2016 at 5:43 pm
Holy Crap — haven’t beaten the Panthers since ’12?!?!?!?!

Let’s see if this gets a rise out of Realist
Mark Dominick’s great “Rock Star” draft of Adrian Clayborn……too bad that he wasn’t playing for Lovie……Lovie would have coached him up so well…..we definitely would’t have had a shot at Jameis.
June 6th, 2016 at 6:27 pm
@Mike Johnson:
This may be the first time I’ve agreed with you, but I agree wholeheartedly.
Carolina led us 31-10, and 31-3 in the two games last year. Our messiah did manage to throw two TD passes in garbage time in the first game, but did also throw another one of those “pick 6” thingys, among 6 total picks in the two games. If we’re close to their caliber, we sure have a funny way of showing it.

June 6th, 2016 at 6:58 pm
@Mike Johnson who hasn’t dominated the YUCS, yeah that’s what they call us around the league. What Carolina did have was the luxury of playing 6 games against 3 ” weak teams”. Last season Carolina team wasn’t any different from the 7-8-1 team that won the division in 2014. Only their schedule was a lot softer, and so was our schedule (we had the same schedule) . Carolina game plan was simple, create turnovers while not committing turnovers, don’t make STUPID penalties, score touchdowns in the red zone. The Panthers scored 31.3 points a game, the Bucs scored 21.4 a game and the Falcons scored 21.2 per game. Yet the Bucs and the Falcons had more total yards than the Panthers on offense. What separated them was the STUPID penalties, turnovers and poor coaching.
June 6th, 2016 at 7:07 pm
The first game was much closer than the final score. A dropped lavonte int that cost us 7, a missed fg/td opp before the half, a stripped fumbled that normally goes the defense’s way gets scooped and scored, etc. No excuses…..Carolina dominated us in large part at the end. We were without Kwon, and they were riding a huge high going into the offseason securing a first round bye. Games will be much tighter this year…and if the Buccs seize on opportunities like we did vs. Atlanta/NO…we will end the drought.
June 6th, 2016 at 7:09 pm
Have to agree with Lakeland buc. Carolina was a average team that benefited from playing bad teams. Same team that went 7-8-1 in 2014 and it showed during the SB
June 6th, 2016 at 7:21 pm
I remember when Schiano beat Carolina in a classic bruiser type game. I thought, “this guy might not be too bad.”
June 6th, 2016 at 7:34 pm
Lol, stop making excuses for why Carolina is good. They had a weak schedule and handled it like a good team would. You can dwell on their bad 2014 record but don’t skirt the fact of how good they have been since Cam was drafted.
Also remember they lost Steve Smith and Greg Hardy in 2014. And Newton was injured the entire year. Their OLine was young and started slow.
When a team spanks your Azz annually you tip your cap……you don’t make weasely excuses about it. The excuses are nearly as pathetic as the Bucs performance against the Panthers.

The thing with the Panthers is age…..which is why I was kind of against bringing in all these aging vets….but it makes sense to do so when you can “bridge” positions. Look at most of the guys you listed, Luv…either near 30 or over 30…..players of 30 tend to break down faster…and their best is behind them.
Olsen, Kalil, Tolbert, Stewart, etc. The defense you mentioned is young….but they still have aging vets (Charles Johnson, Thomas Davis) and have had to replace aging vets (Tilman, Harper, etc).

‘Evening fellas. I am toning down my optimism on these particular pages because so many people like to point fingers at you when you end up wrong. That said, I must say that I am feeling a certain high every time I envision our talent finally being unleashed. I believe we have a Core in place that will make us relevant again for the next Decade. I have no idea what Koetter will be like as a HC for his first time but I will take that over what Lovie was giving us and I was stoked at Lovie’s hiring. I can admit I was wrong. That said as well, Koetter and Smith ran smoothly in Atl with the roles reversed so I can’t see them being anything but two yrs more experienced as they get a second chance together. That is FAAAAAR better than we ever got under Lovie so I can believe in my mind that Coaching has already improved. Defense has improved maybe a bunch. Jameis in his second yr with ME13 coming off back to back 1K yard seasons, the Dougernaught out to prove something……Maybe some Vitale?!
Yeah…….Im pretty Juiced!! I haven’t been to a home game in a decade cause I live so far away but I might fly down for a game or two this yr!
June 6th, 2016 at 7:53 pm
We’ll see exactly how good they are without Norman. Them folks over at bspn did a nice write on how they as entire team elevated after the rise of Norman. If y’all think losing that piece wasn’t a big deal you foolin yourselves. They were average before Norman and will be again in his absence. As far as they’re fan base concerned, they clearly have more brains when it comes to the direction our team more so than many of numb-skulls that visit this site an call then selves Buccs fans. And I’ll reiterate it again, beating us over the last five to ten years shouldn’t have been problematic for many if any teams in the NFL. WHO HAS BEEN OUR QB??? WITHOUT ELITE OR SOLID QB PLAY IN THE NFL YOU HAVE NOTHING.

ALL Good Bro………….Started a new house today. Been catching lots of fish. Summer is here! It got up to 80 today and I got a sunburn. Going camping for a week next week. Life is good.
You?
June 6th, 2016 at 8:06 pm
@Nole, how many times did Carolina and other teams beat us with their backup or 3rd string QB?
June 6th, 2016 at 8:08 pm
46% huh Joe. So why is their fanbase can clearly see us coming??? I’ll tell you why three words. Jamies muta@$!#in WINSton. Thats why.
June 6th, 2016 at 8:22 pm
Nole-Losing Norman will surely hurt. But I gotta think they have a plan in place for that position. Highly doubtful they will get Norman’s same production but I think they’ll be fine in pass defense especially considering there line.
I think Cam Newton had more to do with Carolina becoming a perrianal winner then Norman did.
June 6th, 2016 at 8:29 pm
Don’t have to beat Carolina to dethrone them. We can lose twice to them and still finish with a better record. Hell, we can go 0-6 in the division and win it at 10-6.
June 6th, 2016 at 9:49 pm
@Dewey…..I used to watch you play as a kid. Your brother too, but C’Mon Maaaan! I have a better chance at winning the lottery with some kind of combination of Rachel Watson’s phone number that she just texted me.
June 6th, 2016 at 9:55 pm
Just gonna put it out there. Josh Norman was a product of Carolina’s D. When he gets on an average D, he will be average at best too.
June 6th, 2016 at 11:02 pm
Josh Norman was not only a great player but a damn good PSYCHOLOGIST who could get in a player’s head and dominate him…Carolina will hurt without him..he completely messed OBJ’s game and did the same to us..
June 7th, 2016 at 12:52 am
Josh Norman was not only a great player but a damn good PSYCHOLOGIST who could get in a player’s head and dominate him…Carolina will hurt without him..he completely messed OBJ’s game and did the same to us..
—————————————
What game did you watch? OBJ burned Norman for a wide open td but dropped it, then torched Norman was the game dying score…..and proceeded to step over ala Alan Iverson in the finals..
Norman is a good player….but the Panthers were good before Norman’s break-out year going 12-4, and 7-8-1, winning the division twice prior.
Again…if Carolina has bugaboos…it’s their age. Cam Newton is 27 now…and has taken twice as many hits than any other QB the last three seasons. He did so last year, but will he continue to last entire seasons with his style of play and age beginning to creep up there. Time will tell. How many old players do they have on the team…just look at their offense and it’s ancient..Cotchery, Ginn Jr, Olsen, Stewart, Tolbert, Kahlil, etc. al. Also a number of aging vets on their defense. Davis who is long in the tooth ended up getting hurt towards the end and he wasnt the same player in the super bowl. Well see if he can sustain his high level of play again this year. Other panthers players had career years…and not likely to repeat.
June 7th, 2016 at 2:16 am
Man..stop making excuses Bucs fans..Please!! Carolina has owned us since 2012..period. And as of now..lately..they are a better team than us. Some of you sound like a guy running for president who says things without any facts or thought. Get a hold of yourselves and..face the music Buc fans. Lets beat the Panthers this year..twice.
June 7th, 2016 at 4:18 am
As much as I would cheer the Bucs beating the Panthers, I hear the hype machines once again…it will probably be the same song different verse…lots of talk, lots of injuries and no quality back ups…7-9 season at best
June 7th, 2016 at 8:56 am
Some of y’all minds are so easily controlled its ridiculous. What makes carolina perrenial winners??? One run to a superbowl,a superbowl they got handled handely.. Please. The numbers say they were average before they inserted Norman into the starting line-up. Like won division at 7and 9 avreage. Cam was getting pounded and was injured prior to Normon’s rise. If you think replacing him wit three rookie cb you cray cray.
June 7th, 2016 at 9:52 am
I mean it wasn’t that long ago the media was pounding him for inability in the pocket. The Buccs have just built a roster to compete in my opininon with anyone in the league. How bout we all watch the product now instead of rehashing hoe disatrous its been over the last decade. We about to get on they @$$ this. And they know it.
June 7th, 2016 at 6:49 pm
I hope word doesn’t get around…
June 8th, 2016 at 12:49 am
Cannot be stated enough: The Bucs are once again pre-season champs.
Until dethroned the Panthers are the team to beat in the NFC-South.
After last season, the mishandling of Lovie Smith: I’m from Missouri, show me.
June 8th, 2016 at 7:15 pm
@lamdog
“…the mishandling of Lovie…”
Are you referring to his being hired by the Bucs?
