Nine!
May 25th, 2016Gerald McCoy is 28.
He is about to enter his seventh season in the NFL, all with the Bucs. But GMC let a fact out yesterday that makes him seem like an old man (by NFL standards) and illustrates the futility of the Bucs throughout his career.
GMC is now on his ninth position coach in the NFL. Yes, McCoy appears to be including assistant defensive line coaches.
Yesterday, GMC discussed just how challenging it has been to learn things all over again so many different times and ways.
“I’d be up here lying if I told you it wasn’t difficult,” GMC said. “You have to make so many adjustments, then, for me, because – the reason I say I’ve had nine [different position coaches] is because usually there’s two at a time for us. So, if I’ve got it correct, it’s in between seven and nine coaches. So you take a little bit from each one and then the next set of coaches comes in and now you’re trying to take something from them, and you just create your own identity.
“And now this coach is teaching this, it’s hard to say, ‘You know what? Swallow your pride and try to learn something new.’ Even Coach Hayes has said, he’s told us in the room, ‘I know, guys, this is a difficult transition, but you have to take the coaching and try to learn something new.’ So, yes, it is difficult, but once you swallow your pride and say, ‘You know what? He’s not trying to hurt me; he wants to win just like me.’ So just take the coaching and do what he says and what’s the worst that could happen? It doesn’t work? But at least try it.
“I believe the guys upstairs [coaching staff] know what they’re doing, so you just listen to them and go with it.”
Nine coaches is just wrong and speaks to how and why this franchise has been in the cellar of the NFC South for five years running. (Rod Marinelli coached Buccaneers’ defensive linemen from 1996-2005.)
The only player Joe feels worse for is Johnthan Banks. Since he graduated high school, Banks has played for a different defensive coordinator each and every year, if you count Leslie Frazier and Lovie Smith as separate coordinators.
Mike Smith makes eight coordinators in eight years for Banks.

Ol Softy 93 is lining up the excuses already I see……just in case he doesn’t get injured this season, he’ll have this to fall back on.
Very clever, very clever indeed.

“Old man look at my life, I’m a lot like you were…..”
Let’s throw so Neil Young on GMC’s head phones…….!!

You ppl say the dumbest things. I’m pretty sure GMC could care less about what u think of him any more. I highly doubt he’s trying to please his puthetic haterz anymore. The man is just making a point, but all is well because now he had the D line guru teaching fundamentals. If there’s any guy that I would listen to it would be coach Hayes. Forget what the others said.
I can’t wait what the haterz have to say when our all pro DT breaks 10 sacks this year. Wait lemme guess!! They’ll say it was a product of the DE’s right?? Lol There’s no winning with you ppl anyways, so why try.

The Buccaneers are 58-102 over the past ten seasons thanks to Malcolm Glazer’s sons. Yet year after year most of you want to take your pitchforks and torches against the coaching staff and GMC.

What an unstable mess. Hopefully that stops as of now. And if we are lucky and Mr Koetter is our ongoing leader to the promised land, we will likely be hiring a new DC as Smith will be leaving for a HC position (we can only hope we are that successful!)

D-Rome I beg to differ. That result is a product of lack at the QB position. Without one you have nothing in this league as you already know. As for GMC I’m excited for him,he decribed Hayes as a “technician”. That type of teaching took a little known fourth round pick in Geno Atkins and made him a monster in this league. Really excited about the possibility of someone taking GMC’s game to another level.

@DemBoyz- It is kind of irritating isn’t it? Don’t fret though, look at the name of the poster who said it! Says it all!
You can’t field a decent product with this much instability. It’s amazing that anyone has been productive given the amount of change. Maybe we can hang on to Hayes for a minute.

Bucs players accept losing as a part of life, that’s why Jameis was so pissed after their week 17 blowout loss to the Panthers. They were laughing and joking, getting ready for their vacation. They should be the most healthy players in the NFL, GMC 6 seasons in the league and never played in a playoff game..SMH

I don’t really have a problem with GMC, never have made a negative comment about his play, just his red splotched hair. I’d like to see him make the playoffs with the Bucs.
