McGinest Grades Bucs
May 10th, 2016Former NFL stud Willie McGinest knows a thing or two about winning a ring, having played for the Belicheats and three Super Bowl-winning squads.
So last night on NFL Network, as part of a panel breaking down the recent NFL draft for NFC South teams, McGinest seemed generally impressed with the two rounds for Tampa Bay.
“I gave them a “B,” McGinest said of the Bucs. “I think the Bucs did a pretty good job of addressing some of their needs. [The Bucs picked] the second-best DB in the draft in Hargreaves and then they get Noah Spence. He’s one of the most dynamic pass rushers and he is versatile. He’s not just a big guy. They can do a lot of different things with him. They can stand him up, you can move him around. He’s a versatile player.
“And then, Roberto [Aguayo], OK. He’s a kicker. A lot of people had a lot to say about that. I did a little homework. [Last year] 131 games were won – were decided by seven points — 59 games were decided by three points or less. So kickers and special teams plays a big part in today’s game.
“So, I give them a “B.” I support the kicker. If he turns out to be a [Sebastian] Janikowski or a guy like that? Yeah, I support that. I will support [Aguayo].”
Of course, time will only tell if the Bucs had a fine draft or got swindled. It’s foolish to try to grade a draft before the rookies have even worn shoulder pads.
Aside from Aguayo, Joe is only looking at modest 2016 production from the rookies, especially Spence.

We gone soon see about this notion of VH3 being the second best CB to come out this draft.

I personally prefered Mackensie Alexander. He may not have the ball handling skills, but guys could not get open agsinst him. He was a true lock down corner and I think his “zero interceptions” was a bit overblown. He will excel in a scheme that uses slot of man coverage.

Aguayo should give us one of the best kickers in the league immediately.
Surprised so many people (including Joe) are so reserved about VH3!! I’m on record as predicting he will have significant production fairly fast. This guy is a major talent!! It will not take him long to show that he is far better than Banks and Verner playing anywhere, outside or slot. barring injury, he’ll never come off the field.

Time will tell. Impact-wise, VH3 and Aguayo have the best chance to make immediate impacts. We probably won’t see too much from Spence in the beginning since he’ll likely be rotational.
These are “building blocks”. I expect growth, but will be elated with impact.

I think the Bucs got some quality players in this draft – top to bottom (including UDFAs) – and that within 2-3 years we will have 4 or 5 starters from this crop of rookies.

vhg is the 2nd best db but the #1 pure cover corner….i’ll admit, had alexander had any type of ball skills, he could’ve been the 1st cb taken in the draft….kid can flat out ball…did anyone see his e60 story and where he comes from?…the kid is determined and a very hard worker….he’ll have a good career and I wish him well but vhg is my guy and he will have an instant positive impact on this team….GO BUCS!!!

After two DEs were selected with the first two picks in round 2…..Licht could have easily given up that 4th round pick to move up then….but he didn’t and we got Spence.
He could have also easily stayed at #9 and taken VH3…….but moved back.
So…..I have no problems with his overall draft or with trading up to assure Aguayo.

Referring to the other DB, Jalen. Okay with that. GO BUCS!

I finally get Joe, set the expectations low (Kenny Bell, Noah Spence, ASJ, even Jameis), that way when and if they out perform expectations you’re good, but if they don’t, you’re not disappointed.

Vernon Hargraves is by far the best corner in the draft. People spent so much time knocking him for his height and lack of top end speed that some of what they said has been accepted as fact. Please the kid is the next Revis. Eli Apple isnt even in the same ballpark and Mackenzie Alexander is almost as good… but still not.

JOE – “Aside from Aguayo, Joe is only looking at modest 2016 production from the rookies, especially Spence.”
Really, who cares what JOE thinks. JOE has zero actual football credentials and very minimal analytical abilities. About high school level.

See FSUking I can respect a “G” like you. We’re Noles but we have the ability to set that aside an speak truth when it comes to a talent even if said talent happens to come from our arch-rival. Revis 2.0 indeed. I ain’t got to wait an see it to believe that statement.

I concur with McGinest. We had a solid B draft. None of the major sports networks/shows are gonna give us much credit until we come…Up from the Cellar! I don’t think he dished the Bucs at all.

From a former Jason Licht Basher turned Jason Licht realist (me): “A “B”???? That was a freaking A. Watch in 3 years what they say.”

Mcginest has given every team a B or B- at the worse. They were making fun of him so not really one I’d consider . Now the professor grade was good on with Ron and JP earlier.

I do not know we should expect minimum from Spence, I believe Jacq Smith came out of no where as a rotational player and got 5 sacks his rookie season and so did Howard Jones, you gotta believe Spence is a better talent than them both
