If It Was Belicheat…

Joe’s timeline on Twitter yesterday afternoon and last night reveals Bucs fans remain crazed by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht trading back into the second round to draft a kicker, Roberto Aguayo.

Joe sees both sides but finds the argument for picking Aguayo compelling.

The subject has gotten this Cowherd character all wound up. He took to the microphone again yesterday — whatever happened to this guy again? — and not only defended Licht but finds the pick brilliant and thinks NFL fans ragging on it to be hypocritical because Bill Belicheat has been given a pass on crazier draft selections.

Oh, and this Cowherd also continued his war against linebackers.

I guess when he hits the game winner in the superbowl, people will wonder why he wasn’t drafted higher!

  2. Dreambig Says:

That videos was chock full of common sense. The anti kicker crowd shouldn’t waste time watching it. It will be over their head.

  3. DallasBuc Says:

I appreciate the reminder once again of Jason Licht’s love for AC/DC. Would also be interested to know if he likes ketchup and takes cream in his coffee. And I would like to be reminded of these fun facts every time his name is mentioned. Really adds to the depth of the article and the man.

  4. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I guess some figured he was just talkin spit when he stated “I’m building this team in the mold of the New England Patriots”. These type of moves are exactly the type of moves Beli makes in the draft. Be easy people Licht will be running circles around other GMs for years to come. Why,because he was schooled by those mob figures up there in Boston.

  5. ChessMaster Says:

I normally don’t like this guy but man did he nail it.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo posted this late last night…….Pablo had a bad dream……that his amigo Roberto almost missed a kick……and, Pablo called Hason during the draft and posed as Aguayo and told Hason that the Saints were calling. Hason told Pablo…don’t worry….I have gigante cajones and will trade up and get you.!!!”

  7. Rossta Says:

Enough about the kicker, can we just move on to something new

  8. Buc'd Up Says:

Acquiring starters in all rounds of the draft and the natural byproduct is great depth at each position. Wait till the roster cuts come in the next few months and Jason adds a couple more quality signings to add depth

  9. mike Says:

Enough on using 2 picks for the kicker. It was a dumb move but it over. The draft is crazy and involves so many factors. What if we are called for pass intereference on Dez in the endzone. We lose to the cowboys and pick 4th and get ramsey or a lot to move back. Alwaysinteresting how things work out, but it on to training camp.

  10. mike Says:

I’m pretty sure bill gets a free pass because um the super bowls.

You mean like one of the Walgreens clerks the Bucs signed yesterday? Joe’s not interested in chasing off readers.

  12. Big Irish Says:

He was rated as a 3rd round pick. We used our 3rd pick of the draft to get him. Smart to move up into the 2nd round to get him before another team grabbed him. The first 3 guys will start…….not a bad draft. ROBERTOOOOOO!!!!!!

  13. Leonard Scarnesi Says:

JOE – “You mean like one of the Walgreens clerks the Bucs signed yesterday? Joe’s not interested in chasing off readers.”

Yes! Absolutely! Write about the Walgreens clerks and the Milk Cartons and others who fit whatever term JOE creates to denigrate them! Reading about them would be far more interesting than reading JOE’s continuing hacking about Agauyo.

Why would Joe permit insults of Joe and lies about Joe here. Insults and lies deleted.–Joe

At first I was looking DT, WR, LB so when we traded up to RD2 for a kicker I was shocked and frankly outraged. I’m like everybody and prior to the draft develop several mocks and wish lists, read player bios, read posts few of which included kicker in RD2. A few days have past and I have thought about it and how important a kicker is especially with the rule changes. It appears we got the best one. It wasn’t knee jerk, it was well planned. I am fully satisfied, Good luck Conner. now if Jason would sign Roddy I’d be like a pig in poop.

  15. MadMax Says:

Thing is, it probably wouldve been Bellicheat with one of those 2 back to back picks he had, you know, the two spots right after the spot we traded into. And furthermore, the Floyd schtick we played to fleece Chicago out of the 4th we used to trade back up for Roberto, and still get our guy Hargreaves. Licht was Fn brilliant!!! But we are lucky Apple went instead. Guess we’ll see who turns out to be the better CB. Im pretty sure our guy will.

I love it! These last 2 drafts have surely been something. Next year we can focus on WR and DT and surely another DE.

  16. Dave Says:

    He is dead on.

I thought of that yesterday – if Belicheat did it they’d be praising his asz

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I don’t so much mind the kicker articles. I actually enjoy them.

What I MIND is when Joe does post an article on another player, the commenters always hijack it with kicker talk. Why wouldn’t Joe do more articles on him????

  18. Joe Says:

    BuccaneerBonzai:

Joe has data on what Bucs fans like and don’t like. You’d think after nearly eight years of success, some would give Joe the benefit of the doubt that he has an idea of what he is doing.

Drafting a kicker in the second round has touched a nerve with Bucs fans, both pro and con. Guess all of those Twitters and e-mails and comments and the data showing the traffic on the Aguyao posts are all figments of Joe’s imagination? #ShrugsShoulders

Funny thing is, no one is forcing anyone to read a story of a subject they don’t like. smh

Joe always has been and always will be about topics, not transactions.

  19. Kevin Says:

Fans and GMS WILL start realizing the rising value of kickers once the real season starts. Jason Licht was looking ahead and beat another team to the punch. I think it will prove to be worth it in the long run. Licht always talks about his five year plan. Hes always looking ahead, just like Bellicheat

  20. DefenseWanted Says:

If you can win in 2 phases of a football game, you’ll typically walk away with a “W”. We just guaranteed 1 with special teams. Now we need the offense and defense to do their part.

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

Keep on keeping on Joe style.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

the only reason wh we are getting blasted is because we haven’t won antin….once the “w”‘s start coming in no one will question licht….GO BUCS!!!

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

One thing I have always liked about Belicheat. HE does not like to carry..dead weight on his teams. Everybody has got to contribute something. Or you will find yourself on waivers or used as trade bait. Belicheat will fire you after a game, during mid season..he does not care. Everybody has got to dig in and give something on his teams. I like that philosophy!

  24. Rod Munch Says:

If I was told I’d get those 3 players with our first 3 picks I’d have been quite happy considering Spence slid to the 2nd and the kicker was supposed to go in the 2nd or 3rd round. The fact they used an extra pick from a trade to make it happen, for what is supposed to be a “generational” kicker, I don’t mind. Well I don’t mind so long as he works out and is special.

  25. Stranger Says:

Problem with that line of thinking is Vinatieri was an UDFA and was succeed by a 4th round pick in Gostkowski. There’s no precedent of Bill taking a kicker that high, so its all just a baseless assumption.
