Dire Forecast For Bucs
May 12th, 2016Just about everyone Joe runs into believes the Bucs should or will improve this season, even with a suspected tough schedule.
Others even think meaningful January games are not a pipe dream.
Then there is Mike Clay of BSPN. An alumni of the PFF tribe, Clay, who traffics in fantasy football, began punching numbers recently and believes he has found the proper formula for deciding this year’s worst NFL teams.
Sadly, it appears Clay is of the mind the Bucs, rather than improve, will implode.
Updated projected 2017 draft order:
1. Browns 2. Rams 3. 49ers 4. Titans 5. Dolphins 6. Eagles 7. Bucs 8. Falcons 9. Ravens 10. Jaguars— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) May 11, 2016
Well, one thing is a virtual lock: If the Jags are picking 10th in next spring’s draft and didn’t trade up to get that slot, then Gus Bradley is toast in Jacksonville.
Another interesting element to Clay’s predictions: Unless the Rams trade for a first-round pick, they cannot be picking No. 2 because they currently do not have a first round pick in the 2017 draft, having traded it away for the rights to draft Jared Goff.
Clay must not think much of America — not to be confused with Budweiser — if he believes America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, regresses this badly.

And he gets paid for opinions like this? Who’s the bigger idiot?
May 12th, 2016 at 5:25 am
I am optimistic and hope for the best. I’m a little concerned about our schedule tho. Looks like we are playing 6 of the top 10 defenses from last year and 4 of those in a row. Talk about brutal. If we can get off to a strong start at 3-3 then I say we have a legitimate shot at playoffs.
May 12th, 2016 at 5:33 am
Did he also make predictions last year? I’d like to see them if he did.
May 12th, 2016 at 6:09 am
Looks like Mike Clay found the perfect job to match his talents: FANTASY football. Someone should tell him that team records in REAL football are determined on the football field and not through plugging numbers into “the proper formula” … as determined by, oh ya, Mike Clay.
May 12th, 2016 at 6:12 am
He’s got the Skins and Giants better than us. The Chargers better than us. The Bills and Jets better. Houston as being better. Chicago as better. This guy is nuts. All of those teams will finish behind us this year.
May 12th, 2016 at 7:03 am
I would love to say what a moron this guy is, but since 2010, we have been in the bottom 10 of the league every year. If your predicting things based on math alone, his results are not surprising. But there is no math formula for chemistry, leadership from Jameis, and having the team come together, so I’ll just go ahead and say it. What a Moron!
He Joe, what happened to the post with the clip from the “little dog” show this week? I was looking forward to posting to stick up for you, as there was nothing wrong with your Bucs/Lightning artical. Told you that guy is a prick!
For him to lecture you on what you should write or not write is such a joke, particularly coming from him.
May 12th, 2016 at 7:26 am
I am so glad that so much stock and energy is put into future telling every offseason. What a really good indicator of knowledge and character.
May 12th, 2016 at 7:26 am
I’m looking forward to listening to the 620 show too.
May 12th, 2016 at 7:30 am
Relax fellas, waaaaaaaaay too early, really
May 12th, 2016 at 7:50 am
Who? Never heard of him.
May 12th, 2016 at 7:56 am
Kalind they are better than us. Most beat us last year and Sparky the idiots are the ones who believe his predictions.
May 12th, 2016 at 8:00 am
Clay is right this is how NFL should be, no need for games, pre season games, and so on ! A good excel sheet and everything is sorted and without concussion !
May 12th, 2016 at 8:07 am
Kalind Says
“He’s got the Skins and Giants better than us. The Chargers better than us. The Bills and Jets better. Houston as being better. Chicago as better. This guy is nuts. All of those teams will finish behind us this year.”
I would agree with all but the Giants and Houston.
The Giants have an established franchise QB, so you just never know with them from year to year. Houston is in the exact same boat as us, so it’s possible they improve at the same rate….I think its probable they have a record close to ours.
May 12th, 2016 at 8:10 am
Really, with us picking 8th, where would that put us at wins vs losses? 6 wins? Same as this past year?
So he is saying no improvement whatsoever?
Good. I hope the entire league expects the same.
May 12th, 2016 at 8:21 am
All depends on Jameis improving his decision making and accuracy and if the d improves
Off season is too long for these writers
May 12th, 2016 at 8:46 am
7-9 and looking competitive and not getting blown out by a rookie QB like lovie did last year will be a great improvement….like the dungy 6-10 team after the wyche drafts…that will be a good season
May 12th, 2016 at 9:04 am
I’ll be happy with 8-8…….that will show improvement against a tougher schedule…..I think our offense will need to improve…..passing percentage…scoring TDs in the red zone……I have confidence that our secondary has improved greatly…..still concerned about our pass rush…..will believe it has improved when I see it.
May 12th, 2016 at 9:31 am
putting his specific prediction for the bucs aside, if you are getting paid to be a national football writer, perhaps you should know which teams actually pick in the first round before predicting them to pick in the first round
May 12th, 2016 at 9:35 am
Basically he just took teams with losing records last year and said they would lose again. Wow what foresight that’s a bold bs prognostication. What else would you expect from the northeast garbage news. Oh gee and guess what the Jets and Giants don’t appear on his list hmmmmm I wonder why?????
May 12th, 2016 at 10:17 am
As long as we got Jameis, as long as the locker room knows what they have, who cares about the procostinators
May 12th, 2016 at 10:26 am
This guy must be drinking the watered down unsweetened Kool ade, then again opinions on the Bucs upcoming season are all over the place, except for the Buc fans who actually follow the team.
May 12th, 2016 at 10:34 am
bs….we’re picking in the early/mid 20’s in 2017…GO BUCS!!!!
May 12th, 2016 at 11:13 am
Oh poor Bucs. We have a tough schedule. Just getting another excuse ready. Good teams beat other good teams. They do not need a loser cake walk schedule to do it. People can predict all they want. Until we see the final 53 man roster and the games played will we begin to be happy or puke again.
May 12th, 2016 at 11:24 am
I can see the same record. Tougher schedule, New coaching philosophy (especially on defense). 5 to 6 new players making the roster. No upgrade at wide receiver. No motivation for the muscle hamster to run hard anymore, ( See years 2 & 3)). On the flip side, Winston did throw 4000 yards as a rookie to WD40 and the no names last year.
May 12th, 2016 at 11:46 am
This guy is practically Nostradamus!!! Lets draw some conclusions; 5th hardest schedule, new HC, 6-10 team, questionable D= ?
Wow, that’s some serious analysis! No need to play the games then, I guess!
This is why I hate predictions. We have the 5th hardest schedule based on teams performances last year. By the end of next year, we will most likely have played 2 or 3 of those “powerhouse” teams’ back-ups as well as multiple combinations of injured starters. Of which CANNOT BE PREDICTED!
Ok, I’m better now! Too much caffeine!
May 12th, 2016 at 12:21 pm
Joe we could be 7-9 or 8-8 and still pick around that same spot.
Talking about nothing to do or write about, geesh…. Like seriously we are already predicting the draft order for 2017? Gimme a break!
Maybe BSPN should find something more productive for their employees to do if they don’t wanna get put out of business.
May 12th, 2016 at 12:52 pm
I simply don’t care if the schedule is tougher than a pigs hide!! You Buc fans got the coach you wanted. Now its up to him and his staff to win. No excuses. None whatsoever. You thought by hiring a new coach our record would be better. Well…show us! WIN some games that’s what you are being paid to do Coach Koetter. Winning is all that matter. The clock is ticking and we are..waiting….
May 12th, 2016 at 1:10 pm
Agreed Mike… Our roster is every bit as talented as the other teams in the top half of the league w/our obvious weak spot being D-Line. The real pressure is on the coaching staff. Our offense was extremely efficient last season. It’s up to Koetter and Winston to turn in more points. It’s on Smith and Hayes to squeeze every ounce of QB pressure out of this defense as possible. Of course the players have to step up to the plate, but I feel an improvement in coaching and a more aggressive approach every Sunday should put us in the hunt for the division.
May 12th, 2016 at 1:13 pm
I’d feel better about our chances if we had a legit speedy slot receiver instead of a cheap wussy kicker.
May 12th, 2016 at 1:14 pm
Blah blah blah… it’s just noise… There will always be naysayers.
May 12th, 2016 at 1:18 pm
All you guys who think our offense can improve are nuts. Koetter killed it last year. We’ve added nothing on offense and our depth at wr is paper thin. Ithanks licht. I’d buy defense will be improved but offense no way. We’d be lucky to match last year.
May 12th, 2016 at 1:18 pm
So Mike Johnson that statement was quite telling “You Bucs fans got the coach you wanted”. With that statement you implied two things, first and foremost since you separated your self from us Bucs fans, you clearly are not a Bucs fan, and secondly your whining is indicating that you are rooting against this coaching staff so you can say you were right. If your not a fan like the rest of us and you are rooting against our coaching staff, why spend so much time here?
May 12th, 2016 at 3:44 pm
You could have just stopped at “PFF tribe”, that’s all I need to know about this jackwagon. Two words…ANTHONY COLLINS!
May 12th, 2016 at 4:17 pm
Must admit it is a tough schedule, playing 3 of the four teams in the past two Superbowls, the up and coming Raiders and Rams, 2 west coast games (SF-SD) always tough playing in KC and @ AZ……Very tough schedule indeed. But this team will be improved, hungry, and perhaps the best coaching in years. I think they will surprise us. GO BUCS!!!!
May 12th, 2016 at 6:13 pm
This years schedule includes Arizona, Los Angeles, Denver (in our first four games), Oakland, Kansas City, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco and our division rivals. If we split the games within our division we are looking at 7 wins, 9 tops. If we win more than nine games with this schedule we are truly a playoff team and could do some serious damage when we get there. The key is our defense, control penalties and execute the fundamentals. Our offense is 5th overall in total yards per game (375) but we are 20th in points per game (21.4). The defense is ranked 26th (26.1). 5.3 point gap between offense and defense. I believe the new coaching staff will have a huge impact this season.

Note to DreamBig..Look Kid, I was a Bucs fan when YOU were still a twinkle in your parents eyes! So don’t lecture me on our Bucs. I was there sitting in the stands with my dad during those first few losing inaugural seasons. I’m a Bucs fan. Just not the kind YOU..want me to be! Now take that and shoot it out yer britches!!..sir! Ohhh and I’ll continue to speak me mind.
